For all those folks that made fun of the front office for signing him to such a “large” contract……

How you like him now?

Is he a “weapon”?

Four 50+ kicks in one game including the game winner.

Special Teams can win or lose games and his leg just won this one.

Time for some of y’all to eat some crow….

There are many people eating crow today and I love it because I am not one of them sexy homer simpson GIF

I’ll never understand fans griping about spending a little money on a reliable kicker with range.  There aren’t that many of them and they often factor decisively in close games.

After watching AV’s last couple years and Hot Rod after year 1 (which was good, but showed limited range), I was thrilled when we signed Matt Gay.

Dude kicking is a major part of the game I was so happy because all the kicking issues over the years since Vinny last couple years was killers. But we missing bubba on ST for sure

I dont think s lot of people were as down on the signing as u think. Most people knew we needed a Kicker, and even the highest paid Kicker eats so little of the cap. So I think your anger is misdirected lol.

The poster didn’t say a lot.   He simply said to those who didn’t like the signing.  The ouster didn’t inky how many.   And we’ve had a handful who didn’t like the signing including several right around the end of training camp.

Was Gays game today better than AVs playoff game in Bmore? That’d be a good poll question!

AV won a playoff game.  That wins the argument alone, not to mention he scored all the Colts points that day.  The only thing Gay has on him was that four of his were from beyond 50 yards but a playoff game trumps a regular season game anytime.

Anger? Dude, I’ve been shot at, stabbed, blown up, lied to, cheated on, gone without food/water and a shower, had a spiteful ex who used my kids as weapons, stubbed my toe and ran into my coffee table in the middle of the night……those make me angry!

Me suggesting folks eat some crow is not misdirected anger it’s a statement about owning their misdirected doubts towards the front office.

Thing about Gay is he looks so darn calm and collected, and then BOOM right down the middle. Dude is cool for real for a kicker. Who cares if someone criticized the signing? Gay is 100 percent Horseshoe Guy now and will remain Horseshoe Guy until he misses a big field goal and then we’ll be questioning the contract.

I loved this signing at the start of Free Agency. This is how you sign a FA. Get a top 3 kicker in the league for nothing but cash. I was very happy we did this, considering our K situation recently. This game alone shows that contract was worth it. Gay won us this game almost by himself. He's the best kicker we've had since Veniteri IMO.

So many people here, and elsewhere online, were freaking out about Gay missing a short field goal in the preseason. Thought that was laughable then, and even moreso now.

A lot of folks like to make fun of kickers and punters, which never makes any sense to me, because they make more of a direct impact on whether a team wins and loses than many other positions on the team.

Yep, they score points by themselves.  Of course there needs to be blocking and a hold, but points from a kicker are based on their execution and no one else's...unlike a TD.

The amount of people who were so over the top about a kicker being the first signing of the offseason was ridiculous. Like it matters what order players are signed. The salary cap is skyrocketing.  The Colts have a QB on a rookie contract. Ballard went out and put an important position to bed for the foreseeable future.  McGlaughlin would not have made all of those kicks yesterday.  Don’t even get me going on Rodrigo.

    • I will say this. AR imo threw the ball much MUCH better in his 4 games last year compared to his first 3 this year.  Not even close.   I have to believe a lot of that is due to him being unable to practice much on his mechanics until August or so.  Remember even during spring practice he was complaining of a sore shoulder and had to take some time off.   I fully believe that once he is totally over his injury that he will be able to take the extra reps needed to get back into a way of throwing without having to think so much.   I play a sport at a highly competitive level, won't say which one, but I broke my thumb this spring and I just now am start to get back into the swing of things.  But I am not even close to where I was before I broke it.
    • Do you honestly think the Colts will win a SB, let alone make the playoffs....with Joe Flacco as QB?  I mean are you seriously pining for a 39 year old retread ala Matt Ryan to lead this team????   I am at a loss for that and the only thing that makes any sense is your complete dislike for AR is clouding your judgement.    AR is the future of this team.  He has a high ceiling and with him, and IF he progresses, the team could be a SB contender in a year or 2.  But with or without him there is no way in H E double toothpicks that this team wins a SB this year.  Just not enough ELITE talent on the team.  Honestly the only truly elite player on the entire team as of today is JT.  AR could be.  Not now but could be.   Besides that?  Nobody.  By elite I mean game changing talent.    So you ride with AR, hope he stays healthy and finishes the season, and improves. He makes good decisions for the most part.  The INT in the endzone today was not a good one but for the most part he does.  He just needs to gain experience and technique.    But saying JF should start, when at best....I mean AT BESt ALL HE DOES IS GET YOU into the first round of the playoffs?  Who cares.   I would rather see progression from AR, even it means suffering through a lot of losses, and get a high pick for next year rather than go through a 9-8 season with JF.  Remember the first Manning year he was not good, but he gained tons of experience.  We then got a super high draft pick where we drafted Edge the and we were off to the races after that.   I mean, haven't you had enough of Rivers, Wentz, Ryan and Mishew?  I cannot honestly believe people want to go back to that.   FJ is Matt Ryan PERSONIFIED.
    • One progress I see is that he's finishing games so that's a step. The shoulder surgery and offseason rehab has definitely set him back for a raw guy who needs all the reps he can get. It was reported that AR has a total of 30 something starts at qb INCLUDING hs. Think about that most have that in high school alone. Caleb Williams is the 2nd youngest starting qb in the league and had 33 starts in college alone while winning a Heisman trophy. AR is the youngest starting qb in the league at just 22 but has extreme talent and natural gifts that have to be developed.   I think the staff is doing him a disservice by taking away the threat of his legs (see Lamar) because he is not a pocket passer. I think AR needs a go to TE and the Colts need to rely on the run more with JT until AR catches up from his lost rehab time. Give him some easy short throws to build his confidence before he starts throwing into coverage take the Josh Allen approach.   The biggest problem is that Ballard chose a project in AR instead of moving up to snag the polished CJ Stroud. Most teams move up to get their franchise guy unless they already have the number one pick overall. The reason why it's problem is that the fan base is starting to get restless and the thought of another few years of unfulfilled promise seems discouraging.   Once Ballard chose to sit pat AR was the right choice over the awful Will Levis who was a strong possibility if not for Shane according to Shefty and Will's people. Bottom line is that this will take time. Is the overall team good enough to make a push while AR goes through his growing pains to reach his full potential? I doubt it because Ballard's tenure has been spun in mediocrity at best.
    • Honestly no, but then I didn’t expect to see any progress yet either. He basically lost an entire season and offseason because of injury.    I’ll be more concerned if there’s no progress next season.    What I think is much more of a concern this season is that Steichen’s playcalling seems to have regressed badly. I expected a vastly different offense than what we’re playing and I don’t think Steichen is helping AR at all.
    • To me, this is still his rookie year. When you are rehabbing an injury, you are not getting better at football. He has basically played 7 NFL games with 0 offseason to work on the things we KNEW he needed to work on (hence why he was considered a project QB). I will reserve my judgement for him next year given he has a chance at a healthy offseason.
