I agree with this and well said. It’s not too much to ask that he appear interested and engaged in the interview process. He turned teams off and it cost him. Regarding Ballard, I am clearly in the minority but I think it’s a bad look and unprofessional for an NFL executive, the man representing the franchise, to drop curse words and then half-way apologize and then keep swearing as if he just couldn’t control it. Also, Ballard doesn’t really know Mitchell, he hasn’t spent enough time with him over any lengthy period to where he can know he’s a “good kid.” I am really excited for the pick and we were fired up at my house when Mitchell’s name was called. I just think the Ballard stuff was embarrassing and nothing but theater.

I’m old enough to remember Freeney and Mathis screaming off the edge, so I’m excited about the pick, especially as I research him more. We have to get by Mahomes, Allen, Burrough etc in the playoffs and CJ twice a year and you beat those QBs by getting in their faces consistently. But it’s also perfectly reasonable to be concerned that, with literally ever defensive player available, Ballard chose the one who had neck fusion surgery a few years ago. Valid worry.

The Ringer gives it a A+. Calls the pick great value and worth risk. “Latu comes with some uncertainty, as the former Bruins star was previously forced to retire because of a neck injury. But Indy clearly feels Latu is worth the risk, and I would too. He’s an incredible hand fighter who is damn near impossible to block.”

If you have a chance to get a guy who had cervical fusion surgery a few years ago you take it!

The Athletic’s last mock has Broncos nabbing Bowers. We take DB Mitchell over WR Thomas and DB Arnold.

Not sure, I just checked again and it’s Thomas to Colts at 15. Maybe they have two mocks. Anyway, I’d be good w Turner too but someone said he’s too light? I’d rather go Thomas.

The Ringer mock is wild. It has DB Mitchell and Edge Turner dropping to us, but we pass and take WR Thomas. I’d be more than good with that. Turner is falling in some mocks and no one can agree on Mitchell or Arnold at CB. Verse is rising.

Mel Kiper just did a TV spot and he said this is the most fascinating, interesting, uncertain draft since he started in the business. Things could get crazy. I know a lot of people don’t like Kiper but I love how he brings the energy and passion.

I am fired up to sit down and watch the draft with my son this week! (I realize this doesn’t add much to the discussion but it seems there is a lot of excitement and anticipation this year.)

An article in the Athletic has the Colts with the 26th best roster in the NFL. ”QB Anthony Richardson showed promise, but the sample was too small for me to lean one way or the other at this point. The rest of the roster is split: The trenches are great on both sides of the ball, but the skill positions and back seven on defense are not.” Houston is 11.

Fascinating article. The analysis says trading back is the way to go. It quotes Polian as saying he hated trading back. An interesting part is when an NFL executive said it’s usually not a “all for one” approach because the OC wants his guy, the DC wants his guy etc. You’d be surprised how the sausage gets made.

Yeah, we would probably be taking the fourth WR though, so maybe Thomas from LSU. Would he be more impactful than the second best CB? I don’t know. Tough call.

Lol. I get that sentiment but a lot of other mocks have Arnold to the Colts as the second CB taken. I’d be happy with it.

Not sure if this has been posted but Kiper mock today has Arnold to Colts.

Mock by the Athletic today has Arnold and Mitchell both gone before we pick. Has us taking Verse, Edge from Fla St. (I don’t like this mock because it has trades)

You’re always with the superior attitude. It’s like you log in looking to be mean and argue and tell people whether their posts are worthy, whether NewColtsFan approves. The Athletic has the big three WR and Bowers AND Thomas gone when we pick. Surprising because most mocks have Thomas to Colts if we go WR. It seems to be settling in as somewhat of a consensus that we take CB Arnold from Alabama. It’s a good mock because it has anonymous comments from coaches.
