I guess. But he is the best corner in the league and they got him on a one year rental. No long term commitment. Freeney made more his last season here

So yeah, the Pats had one large free agent signing then. That's usually what the Colts do as well.

Gore's career demands respect, but a running back with over two and a half thousand career rushing attempts is not a guy anyone should break the bank for. I hope this is a relatively team friendly deal we've offered, and it does little to solve long term RB concerns.

Old players can mean shorter term contracts. The Colts have some BIG contracts coming due next season with Luck, TY, Allen and Fleener. Having one year rentals while rookie contract guys are developing makes some sense to me. Of course you have to rent the right guys.

They have a BIG contract with Luck

Good sized contracts with TY and Costonzo

Medium deals with fleener and Allen

If we fix that O line we can have a running game.

Don't get the hate though.... Let's give the guy a chance. He's been nothing but solid for SF.

We act like we have a recent past of great running backs! haha

SF wants him back but couldn't make the numbers work,  and Philadelphia wants him....

So there are franchises beyond our own that appreciate who Gore is and believe he's got more to give...

I don't get the Colts wanting to bring in OLD players at these key positions.

Because the younger players all went for more $$ than we chose to spend.

Don't be surprised if we also draft a RB and a WR as well.     This is the phase for older guys,  the draft is the phase for younger guys....

Better days ahead...

the thing about signing Gore is that he still has some mileage left but won't be the focal point of the offense. This will also give the Colts the ability to draft the potential rb of the future and let him develope behind Gore and not be thrown to the wolves. And when it's time to move on from Gore, said rb should be ready to handle the full load.

They run the ball far more than the colts

Still does not fit his style.  They run outside the tackles, which is not his style.

Gore is familiar and had success with Pep Hamiltons scheme.  The only reason

the Colts did not run much is that we could not block consistently enough to do

so.

Plus our backs were mediocre after the Bradshaw injury.  No way do we

pass the ball all day long with Frank Gore in the backfield and an improved offensive

line. I'm sure Gore knows we'd run it more if he came here.

Both Gore and Johnson played at the U (Miami) with ties to Pagano, I believe.

It wouldn't surprise me if Johnson and Gore called each other up and talked about playing together in Indy.

They are both familiar with Pagano from the U, and Gore is familiar with Pep Hamilton.  And of course there is Luck! It would just top it all off if we drafted Phillip Dorsett and picked up Denzel Perryman(although I think Kendricks or Stephone Anthony are the better fits for us).

I don't get how some of you could be upset with this.

It's fascinating, actually

We need a running back and Gore is proven, and has a couple of years left in the tank

yep...heck at this point if we cut Trich and get Gore...the salary difference is about a wash(assuming he gets a similar deal as the Eagles deal was) and we instantly improved our backfield

It' s absurd for Colt fans to not want Gore due to his age. I mean the guy is not walk-on from the streets. We are talking about All-Pro that would been productive to have on our team.  I agree 100% with your post above.

If you think gore is average, I don't know what to tell you. a

Gore had a good OL.  Which allows average RB's to look better.  Colts seem to be getting better, but if Gore ran behind the line that the Colts had 2 years ago, he wouldn't be a whole lot better than Trent.  Not saying he is garbage, but he wouldn't be great.

Not sure if this is true.  If Boom Herron was the starter and we remained consistent with the running game the whole year he definitely would have gotten at least 800 yards.  And I know Bradshaw would have topped 1000 if he was healthy or somewhere real close to it.    Trent is the only one who would have screwed that up.

yeah, you have no way of proving that. Trent would suck behind the nineties cowboys oline

    • Agreed   Freeland will come back 10-15 lbs stronger (I believe)  I view him as our next man up at Tackle   This kid will grow as well, possibly taking the RG spot in the future   Great pick up
    • Love the pick   He may be on the field by mid year at RG
    • In run blocking he would be similar to Fries in that with a little angle he can do a good job getting push. Fries is over matched trying to drive block because he isn't a bender. This guy isn't a bender but carries maybe 15 more lbs.  Gonc has been very successful as a pass blocker. If he can get some push in short yardage of which we desperately could use improvement at RG, and he proves an upgrade in pass pro over Fries, then yippee. To get that improvement this year in the 3rd round would be a real plus.  According to him his big toe injury was serious. Said he was 85-90% at his pro day and had only started training 3 weeks before. The 19 reps seemed to be a personal best. Yikes!  He had 21 college starts in 39 games. He was crossed trained and played LT, RT, LG, RG. This was from our new oline coach.   A big plus, and he apparently is very quick off the snap.   He is big but not so light on his "toe", so I believe he would get humbled playing tackle. I doubt worse than Freeland was last season so...  I'm impressed with his demeanor, and he is consider tough.   I give this pick a B.  Pray for the toe!!
    • Its REALLY interesting that Ballard could have drafted AD at 46, but were confident enough that someone else wasnt going to grab him while we traded back?   Gutsy move?  Nerves of Steel?, Lucky?   I think I would have just stayed put and taken AD   But then again......  Im just an old dude clacking away on a computer   STILL love the pick
    • I watched a video breakdown on him (before we picked him) where the analyst comps him to Lamb. I wish I could remember the analyst's name
