EDIT: Wilson reported this on the Dan Dakich show earlier today.

With Joe Reitz and Hugh Thornton both being ruled out, Phillip B Wilson reports that Lance Louis will start over Khaled Holmes at RG.

Harrison will remain as starting center.

I don't like it. I don't like how the Colts are gambling with their Offensive Line and the health of their franchise QB. Look I like Harrison and he maybe will be a good Center at some point in his career but there is a reason he went undrafted and if you are in a win now modus Shipley provides more help. Lance Louis was bad in Chicago and he was bad in the few games he played for the Colts. Besides the Mewhort draft the Colts did not much regarding one of their biggest weaknesses this offseason. I really like Grigson and he did some great work but on the OLine I think he makes one mistake after another! Third straight year with inconsistent Line play as best is a disappointment!

I told you all several posts ago..    IF the "staffs guys" are ready they will play.

Now I think Ship has done well..    but Rick V agrees with the Harrison move..       BUT at G,  Rick really liked what KH did...    and of course he will not get rewarded for good play?    I don't get it..

Oh well..

Here is Rick V talking to Grady and Big Joe about the matchup and specifically the C position at about 15 minutes.

good stuff and Rick is calling all the changes that do happen WEEKS before this staff finally make the move...   Really puzzling.

If I owned this team and saw Lance Louis trot out to start this game , I would fire Pagano before the game ended. The man played horrible enough in some early starts to be inactive the last 4-5 games and now he starts over Holmes who played well last week ? Insane....

Is this a joke??? Well maybe after  3 or 4 sacks, several knock downs, and maybe a forced fumble or two Pagano will put Holmes and/or Shipley in. I just don't get it. Holmes played pretty well last week. Why not start him??? I can understand Harrison because they seem to see something in him (other than bad snaps) but seriously Lance Louis sucks.

This is a joke right,

His press conference Pagano said "I don't know" when asked if Holmes would start at RG

"Dakich asked him was about who would be starting along the offensive line. "Do you really wanna know?" Phil B. asked, which of course Dakich answered with a yes. After a pause, Wilson said, "well... my understanding, and I can't tell you how I know but I know, is that [Jonotthan] Harrison will start at center, Lance Louis will be the right guard, and [Khaled] Holmes will back up Louis at guard." Dakich then followed up with a clarifying question that A.Q. Shipley would then back up Harrison at center. Phil B. offered a long "uhhhh" before dropping another nugget: that he's been told that Shipley will be inactive. Dakich was rightly shocked, and Phil B. also said that, "I can't tell you how I know, but a couple of us, two or three of us, know, and you know, it was a shock." Wilson added that, "I couldn't believe it when I heard it, and part of me thought it was just a lie and I thought, well we'll wait until Sunday to see. But all indications are that what I was told is gonna happen"

These coaching decisions leave me speechless. What is their beef with Holmes? When him and Shipley were in the game there was absolutely no pressure coming up the middle. I watched Harrison and Reitz get thrown around like children. I seriously hate whoever is making these decisions.

Shipley really didn't play that good... Holmes did yes, but Shipley didn't... There was no when Shipley and Holmes came in we started playing better, it happened when Holmes came in.

Considering Harrison was at fault for the hit on Luck which caused the fumble, I would say the line played better when Shipley came in.

This group better step up big time cause it's comin...And I haven't seen much to build my confidence. I'm expecting we barely pull this one out again...And, that's the most positive thing I can say at this point.

IF...  Herron and Moncrief do not get at least 70% of their positions snaps then this staff is totally clueless.

WTH ...  they WON the game for Indy last week.      They "make things happen" ..    If they cannot get on the field how will anyone else?

Whatever..  It's Chuck's job...     and Jimmy H is going to be a free agent..   :td:   if fired?    I would give  first for him.

I don't get not letting Holmes get rewarded for doing a fine job in the last game. Louis has shown nothing more than Satele and Shipley showed at guard for last season. I don't understand who is making the calls for the personnel on the line. Does the oline coach give his preference and Pagano gives him the benefit of the doubt or does Pagano pick it completely with little input from anyone else. Someone is making poor choices. I'd be ticked if I were Holmes and I've lost my job to Harrison and then when the chance comes up, I lost it out to Louis as well. Shakes head

So everyone here knows more than the coaches? I'm not defending Louis, I've seen his play.

What I haven't seen is practice this week. I'm willing to give the coaches the benefit of the doubt.

Apparently I'm in the minority.

I normally agree regarding the practice quote, BUT, last week there was a VERY noticeable difference when Holmes and Ship were in together. Unless one/both of them got hurt in practice I would reason that they have good chemistry together and should stay together (on the field, not on the bench).

I've been a Chuck supporter since he's been here, but I am also starting to think that we can do better, and it's time for a change. I hope he explains this move.

Its not from lack of trying. Good offensive linemen are very hard to find. All the teams in the NFL struggle in that area. Very few good offensive linemen are found in the free agency market. Most are overpaid or past their prime.

    • Sure. I support that, too. What I don't get is people saying others need to stop discussing this subject or that people are ruining this message board by stating opinions they don't agree with.
    • I know this doesn't compare to your children, but I have genuinely put in an effort as well not to yell or get violent since I've got my Labrador Retriever 2 1/2 years ago. She is my life, and I always want her to be comfortable around me. I've finally got on some good medication that has lowered my outbursts, and I'm probably living a better life than I have since 2011 which was the last year I had a huge social life and was traveling and playing pokemon with all my best friends.    I just enjoy sports a ton and is still a mini-escape from life. I want to feel like I can enjoy a journey that my team can win a championship. If we lose, that's one thing and I'm fine with it as long as there is maximum effort given. When we lose and it's due to circumstances out of our control (injuries) seemingly every year, that's when I become apathetic towards the team over time.   The Atlanta Braves had a horrible season with injuries this year, but because we won a WS three years ago and make the playoffs every year, it's more forgivable. When we just lose every year, or the times we win it's a QB like Rivers who has 1 year with us and he retires, I just give up. I have no control to fix the team myself, and I resort to playing Madden instead.   Also, I'm sorry that you lost your friend in NC due to the flooding. That has to be horrible to go through. I have a bunch of friends in the South who lost power for 3 1/2 days and a cousin in Florida whose house got destroyed and she has to move in with her sister now. That hurricane sucked for so many people.
    • I’d say Levis is worse than AR as of this season. He’s single handedly lost the Titans multiple games.
    • You’re right. You have every right to have your opinion.    Odds are stacked in favor of failure more than success in the NFL. Sustained winning is hard. Avoiding injuries is hard nowadays for QBs… More than likely due to the odds the Colts will be continuing to search for a QB in the future.    It is what it is.
    • I’m sorry you feel this way. I’ve struggled with it in the past. I’ve made a post a few weeks back but it bears repeating:   I used to get irrationally angry watching Colts games. It was bad. It was violent. Looking back, it was embarrassing.   What finally changed for me was seeing the look of fear in my little children’s eyes staring up at me with tears. It… washed away my cares for the Colts. That probably sounds bad, but I no longer care as much about what happens with the team. It was one my entire persona. It was as if my own personal happiness stemmed from the team’s success.    All I can tell you is that at some point you’ll learn to separate the Colts from your personal identify.    There are other things truly more worthy of your worries and stress than a football team. I promise you.    Be well and cherish life. I recently lost a great friend in NC due to the horrible flooding. Life is too short to waste it away fretting over the Colts.
