I want Suh.

Recommended Posts

we will not get a big name player for quite some time.  2 things

1) too many big names to sign coming up at big money

2) big name players haven't worked out for us (DHB, TRich, Hakim Nicks, etc.)

I am not sure that DHB or Nicks are correct to fit into this group -- we got them both for short term deals and for fairly cheap.  Maybe household names, but both were low risk/short term vs. high reward signings.  Suh would be kind of a high risk vs. high reward signing as I'm sure he's going to demand top dollar and a long term deal.  Even T-Rich was pretty low risk vs. high reward as we were depleted of running backs due to injury and got him on his rookie contract (I guess we gave up a 1st rounder for him, so maybe he was high risk).

and what we are is a team that wins over ten games in the regular season and very few playoff games. sad but true

Grigs has said he won't pay for names -- he has done a good job in that regard, minus maybe Landry.

Enough said.

OK - at what cost?  What/ who are you willing to give up in order to sign Suh at the $$ it will take?

1) Agree

2) The big name players you list are not even close to Suh - not in the remote ballpark of Suh

How do the Patriots manage to sign guys that get them over the top:  Corey Dillon, Rodney Harrison, Randy Moss and now....Revis. They have a had a lot of misses too but they make the right signing at the right time.  They manage the cap exceedingly well.

The Patriots are a well ran organization starting from the top down

Suh Suh Suh Ya? (Isn't that an 80's song)

I feel D-line isn't a need. I'd rather spend that money on the O-line and safety positions

Phil Collins would be proud of you.

We're still somewhat poor - or at least inconsistent - at stopping the run overall, but I agree that the O-Line is a higher priority.

Moss quit on a bad franchise in Oakland and that hurt his trade value. BB saw an opening to fleece Crazy Al and picked up the phone.

Dillion wanted out of a bad organization in Cincy and let it be known which hurt his value. Was portrayed as a bad guy, but really just wanted out.

Harrison was viewed as played on the downside of his career, the he went to NE and got on the juice lol.

This .... they let there older expensive players go before they start to decline collecting draft picks in the process.  Than they go out and get older players/or question mark players on cheap contracts.  They also have positions that they are willing to not have big name young studs ... WR, RB, etc ... Colt's fans would be screaming if(when) we took this approach.  Those earlier mentioned draft picks they collected along with the willingness the trade back give them the freedom move around during the draft.

Combine these things with a system that has a plug and play aspect to many positions allows them to have the money to go out and get the Revis and Suh type players from time to time when you feel like they are going to be an important cog for your team.

That said, if I were a betting man, I'd give 10:1 odds against the Pats signing Suh.

    • Trade him? He just handed him a nice extension.
    • Yes, thanks, you’re right. When the Panthers traded to get the 1 is when Ballard said he didn’t have all the information to make the trade. That’s strange to me.  “Didn’t want to make a blind decision without all the information,” Ballard told reporters Monday. “I know for people, they might not understand that. But I think history kind of tells you that when you do that, you better know what you’re getting. And we weren’t quite ready to do that at that time. And then we feel like there’s enough depth in the draft that we were gonna be okay.”   This was in late March. Ballard had a chance to get the 1 and use it to take Stroud not Young. I think it’s strange he said he didn’t move up to 1 because it would have been a “blind decision.” Why would it be a blind decision in March? Why wouldn’t you know what you’re getting? You’re getting whoever you want if you get the 1. It didn’t happen, but Ballard could have recognized that Stroud was going to be superior, could have made the trade and could have drafted him. Ballard admits it never occurred to him to attempt the trade because it would be a “blind decision.”
    • I cringed after seeing the way his leg bent underneath him to the point of him sitting down on it. Buckner is one tough dude and to see him needing help to get off the field is when I knew he was going to be out for a while.
    • He probably felt confident Bowers would still be on the board at 15 once he made it past NYJ at 11.  He could've been trading up with other teams to move up to get Brock Bowers, but unfortunately, the Raiders had their eyes set on him and took him at 13.
    • Not now...   Let the year play out. Maybe at the end of the season...
