he played well all game, but that first series right out of the gate where Freeman got injured, on the first down play he came flying in and just missed Freeman what would have been a tackle for a loss if timed better, the second down play is the stop he had that injured freeman, then he broke up the pass near the goal line on 3rd down

I like what he did out there but I still kind of like the awareness, experience, and ball skills of the two vets Adams and Lowery when they are both playing together. I say leave him at the dime linebacker for right now whenever Adams gets back. Maybe sign Barry Coefield to add to the D line rotation.

Exactly. I think this was a very good draft by the Colts.  I think Good and Robinson will do well.  Dorsett, which Chud calling the plays, will do well.  But Geathers is like Buchanon in AZ.  Half linebacker.

 

As said by me and others on here, this kid is blooming into a great, hard hitting safety.

He took Freeman out of the game and made play after play. Great draft selection Grigs!

Let's see how Smith develops when he is back in game shape.

I believe Buchannon may even have been who they wanted when he was available in the draft but Arians stole him from us. We turned around and picked up a similar dime linebacker type in Geathers

He was really good today. And aside from that hit on Freeman that took him out of the game there was another play he made that I really liked. Freeman got the ball and had broke free for that big long run he had. Then Geathers came flying in the make the tackle from behind and it probably saved a TD on the play. But I love a hard hitting SS like that. Now if we can get a coverage safety in this years draft to pair with him we'll be set.

Yeah, that and he was not "abused in coverage" either. He wasn't great, but he certainly wasn't abused.

Exactly....some on this forum expect every player for us to be Hall of fame worthy the first series of the players first game...if not....he's a bust

This.  The one guy that got open on him was Julio... yeah, terrible.  Beat by likely the best receiver in the league... he sucks... Geez.

 

Definitely impressed by Geathers first full game as a starter.

I've been pretty high on him.  He brings the nasty hard hitting S to our secondary that we've desperately needed.  Not only can he lay somebody out, but with time, I think we could potentially be a TE neutralizer.  Perfect build and physicality.  He is obviously still young, and has plenty of work to put in, but he was a great pick thus far.

You would have never known they were missing their best safety. Lots of credit needs to go to all the safeties who had a big matchup this week and stepped up. Between Geathers, Anderson, and Perry Grigson really addressed the defenses biggest weaknesses in the draft. Hopefully Smith pans out at corner and becomes Toler's replacement. If so they might have found four defensive starters in this draft. That is pretty darn good. Find a pass rusher or two this off-season and they could become one of the better D's in the league.

It was refreshing to see Werner inactive today. Newsome finally made a few plays as well. Trent Cole also finally showed up

Just a solid game all around from the defense, especially in the 2nd half. Really buckled down and won the game

He's best playing against big formations.  Like 3rd and short.  He does give effort though.  Like the long Freeman run where Geathers missed the tackle at the goalline -blocked out and fell down- but somehow got up and caught Freeman from  behind down the field.

Yes, his coverage isn't the best, but he did decent considering whom he had to cover.  He should have been the 'over the top' help with Julio though.  Julio would have been less opt to catch deep routes had he been  hit by Geathers after his first few catches.

 

Time will help him hone his coverage skills. -IF Pagano stays.....-

Lowery was excellent today. And compared to Laron Landry, he's a gawd.

He was good today and he was solid in the Titans game but the other games, he was burnt numerous times.  Better than Laron Landy and Colt Anderson? Yes by far lol.  I'd still like to see Geathers and Adams back there when healthy.  Just my opinion!

Didn't most of us predict that Geathers would win the starting job over Lowery before the season ends anyways? I still see that happening. Maybe next week he gets the start. After all it was his tipping the ball that caused that interception for Lowery.

I think it was kind of 50/50.  If Adams is healthy I see Lowery and Adams back there.  I would love to be see Geathers and Adams back there though!

 Newsome was Awful, and Cole did little. Whoppee he had a QB hit against that line. O ya, and 1 solo tackle.

Even plays man for him to be a run stopper and pass rushing specialist he's been nonexistent. And he overpersues in the run game and fails to set the edge I say 65% of the time. They choose to go at him rather than walden same as people used to do freeney rather than Mathis
