Yea but this kid is a FS , Geathers was more of Box Strong Safety.

He is not, he best fits as a SS, but has good ball skills to stay on in sub packages. He’s a superb tackler, and needs development in coverage as a safety

Julian who?

I'm not feeling excited about this draft at this point. I like Pittman, but so far the Taylor and Blackmon picks will have me just hanging up my standard 'Ballard knows better than I do' wall poster (right beneath my old Bo Derek swimsuit poster).

9 picks after his move to FS does not sound like he needs much development in zone coverage.

They said on television he played two years at corner and then moved to free safety.

Yes if he played SS it would be due to injury but he’s a body that could all be it not ideal.  When I said could be a future starter I was thinking he could be the replacement for Hooker if the Colts don’t keep him.

Don’t know much about him but I feel screwed by the draft gods twice in a row now. I was wanting Baun at 75 and he goes at 74. Trade down ten spots and I wanted Lewis and he goes right before us. No idea if Ballard was looking at either but my hopes were ruined.

I wonder if Blackmon signals a stronger push to move Hooker. I think we played a good amount of three safety sets so it’s not like he’s just for depth.

In watching his tape, it looks to me like he’s best suited as a SS. Doesn’t matter where he played before, but where he translates to the league

He’s coming off a torn ACL late in the season so I doubt this kid plays this year.  However, he could be Hooker’s replacement if the Colts elect to let him walk.

What YOU see on tape and what the scouts and coaches see are two completely different things. It doesn’t remotely make sense that he would play SS. For one Willis has already solidified himself as the starting SS moving forward. Secondly we all know that this is Hookers final contract year and we don’t know that the organization will pick up his 5th year option so drafting his successor sounds like a smart plan doesn’t it?

Makes me wonder if we might move Hooker for a player.  We were receiving offers.  Maybe soon.  I still think the Hooker for Howard trade makes sense.

Draft Taylor... let’s move Mack!

Draft Blackmon... let’s move Hooker!

No, this is called quality depth who can develop and take over in the future.

So is this guy out this year with the injury?  If so wth is the point in drafting him and having to wait a year for him to play with so much talent left on the board?? Who knows if he even recovers properly.

Polian did this with Bob Sanders and it worked out pretty well.

That doesn’t change the fact that I see a SS. Maybe he does replace Hooker. Maybe not. I see a SS, you see a FS, and neither of us know what the Colts FO sees!

You think they drafted Taylor in the second round so he can back up Mack? They already have depth at running back.

Willis is taking geathers spot

Willis took the starting job last year, not what I meant.  I meant as a backup.  Geathers was the primary back up last year at safety.  That was also before I knew this kid was hurt.  With his injury and read more about him he’s development guy who I think the Colts are eyeing to replace Hooker one day.

If hooker stays healthy this is just a depth guy he's a 3rd round pick for a reason some people are overreacting on this one

    • Irsay doesn't care about your opinion either. White knighting for the Colts and bullying posters who are negative because they are frustrated with the team since 2014 isn't a good look for you. People don't cry because the team doesn't do what they think they should do, they cry because coaches and GMs that are professionals in their field are either unqualified to do their job (Grigson), or refuse to learn from their mistakes (Pagano, Reich, and Ballard until recently).    This forum just wants to win at this point. Ballard has never won the division. We want to win in the playoffs. Ballard has won 1 playoff game. We want to win games. Ballard is 54-60-1. You know all this, and you deflect it all the time. All you can say is Ballard knows more than people on the forum, as if that makes him a top GM in the NFL.    I don't care if Ballard does things the way I think as long as we are winning. The problem is the way Ballard is doing things, we are not winning. So it adds more ammo that his way isn't working. You compare that to a team like the 49ers, where John Lynch took over the same year as Ballard, and they are winning, and that's not even the fans thinking they know more, that's an actual GM knowing more as an example.    The last point I'm going to make is injuries. We have gotten very unlucky with injuries. That's part of the reason (myself included) a lot of people are negative on this forum. Injuries to top players all over the place have hurt this team. You can pretend like this is a new year and it shouldn't matter and that's in the past, but we're affected by what's happened in prior years, and injuries happen every year. We're already getting injury scares this year with Pittman and Richardson and Daniel Scott is done again.    The bottom line is this forum is going to be negative to an extent until we win. You can pretend everything is great and take out your frustrations on people who don't think the way you do, but you've been wrong since 2015 thinking the way you do, and Ballard's whole tenure. You have no credibility with your position right now. Your only defense is that you think "some of you would rather be right and see the team fail."  We want to win, We just aren't buying it until we see it now. Maybe AR gets the job done, but until he does, it's just more hope.
    • LOL. says the guy that is negative about every aspect of the Colts since your apparent best friend Grigson got fired.      My agenda is and will always be to hope the Colts do well.   Not poo poo everything the team does.   Contrary to the belief of a few here,   Irsay doesn't care about your opinions.   He is going to do what he thinks is the best for the team.    I'll never understand those that cry when the team doesn't do what they think they should do.     Some of you would rather be right, and see the team fail.   I'll never be that fan.   But hey,   you do you
    • At least you finally acknowledged he was "elite".   He was very good pass blocking last year.   I don't know how PFF grades pass blocking or run blocking,   but he has been great from jump street.  I haven't heard any news about a lingering injury this off-season.   Let's see how the year plays out
    • Thanks for all this hard work.  Appreciate the deep dive effort to put all this good info in one place.     Sorry there are so few of us around to enjoy it.
    • Somebody does all that homework.  A deep dive of information.   And you think this is an appropriate response?
