Both the Jags and Falcons run a 4-3, similar to Seattle. He'd probably 2-gap in Seattle/Falcons 4-3 under D. Quinn had Brandon Mebane in that role in Seattle and seems like he wants his own Mebane. Your first argument was not about elite nose tackle.... it was just about filling the spot. Here is your sentence, I'm cutting and pasting it.... "3-4 NT is possibly the hardest position to fill in the nfl next to QB." well if you are going to be that technical then you can fill any spot easily sign me up for QB. I WILL FILL THAT SPOT of course i was talking about finding players that are actually note worthy. you can throw guys like parry or chapman at NT and call it good i guess, but good players at that position are more rare than almost anything else there really hasnt even been an elite NT in the nfl the past few years

The reason: Because that player gets beaten up by the center and the two guards. Playing the position is like being in a traffic accident. So, putting a player with elite skills there is mostly a waste. Poe is an exception to the rule because he was naturally a NT. He's 6'3" and 345 without trying to be big. He just IS big. Poe is what teams would like to have but he's a unicorn. You almost never see one. And this guy is not as he once was. He has slowly but steadily deteriorated. That's not typically the case with premium elite pass rushers.

Fisticuffs111
Huh. I don't know about you all but the fact that he wants a 1 year deal and that we were rumored to want him long term, the only team to specifically have been rumored to want him long term as far as rumors go. I don't care too much one way or the other if we get him, especially on just one year. I know, it's fair and he wants to be able to hit the open market again if he proves his worth. But I don't really want for Ballard, or selfishly us as fans, to go through another Poe FA tour.

Poe knows that if he plays at 100% then he'll have a better season in 2017 than he has the past 2 thus increasing his market value allowing him to get a better long term contract next year than he'd be able to get this year. Ballard knows this and would prefer to lock him in long term now before his price goes up if he does have a bounce back year this coming season. And even if it's not 100%, I could see it just being like it was last season for him, just kind of a minor situation, discomfort that comes and goes, that he can still play through. For me if he is 100% then pay him as the top NT in the league and sign him long term. I don't think anybody is willing to make him the highest paid at his position. I think that's what he wants. If he gets it he will sign a LT deal. I consider him a foundation player for our defense. Signing him to a one yr. deal doesn't sound like a foundation piece to me. So if he is 100% we should pay him. If not 100% and the only way to get him is the one yr. deal so be it then I bring in Hankins as well. We are losing Kerr and probably Perry as well and Hankins is a solid young player.
