Was this stipulation written into his contract from the Browns that we inherited?

If the suspension was geared toward doing this, it is a pretty underhanded move by the Front Office.

What no one is bringing up is TR went on record (after the bronco game) saying "this will be the last time I will be a healthy scratch." So it's not a big reach to say that he took this to another level when he figured out he was going to be inactive vs the Pats again. Also consider that he has a tremendous evaluation of his talents. He also stated that he would put up incredible numbers the last few weeks of the season and silence his detractors . I think it's very possible that he may have deserved the suspension. The Colts are a pretty classy team but maybe the temptation to save cap induced it..dunno but would guess not

One would think he would do everything in his power to avoid this type of situation after this organization coddled him from the start. Week after week, Pagano would get in front of the microphone and go on about how Trent is doing everything the right way and how hard he works even when things aren't going well on the field.all those weeks where he just needed to "keep chopping wood".

Right, Gordon wasn't paid for enough games this year to accrue a season. It was him being suspended without pay for the last game that made it the case. He was only paid for 5 games, instead of the 6 need to accrue a season.

His is a completely different situation than TRich, however. I'd be interested to see the language in TRich's contract. This almost sounds to good to be true/too convenient. That said, there's rumblings from local media that there is much more to the story, like him being escorted out of the complex by force prior to missing walk through. IDK...this could get interesting.

Heard the same thing Monday and mentioned it at that time on another thread.  I believe it was Joe Staysniak that said he heard Richardson was escorted out of the building.  Heard he had also failed several weight checks and was not "all in" with the team. Would love to hear the rest of the story.

So was this not true? Trent Richardson's mother died this weekend, just hours after the Indianapolis Colts running back missed a team walk-through IF that is in fact true and the Colts decide to send him walking without pay because of that missed walk through I as a fan of the Colt organization would be more than a bit put off!NOT if there is a family emergency! My employer would be more than understanding in those cases!

No, reports of her death were greatly exaggerated.

At the time of the trade, I remember reading a quote from one of the Brown's players at the time about how TR "had to learn some things about being a pro". That quote received very little attention, but it is something that I remembered.

Fat and slow may just be a consequence of his approach to his profession. He may be a good guy, but just never had to work for past success and doesn't know what work is. Or has finally figured it out and has chosen not to work.

Didn't Cleveland do the same thing? Gordon's suspension made it so he didn't accure a full season and I didn't hear anyone (NFLPA) make a big deal about that.

Don't really know if that falls under the same category.

Gordon's suspension that caused him to not accrue a season, also changed his free agent status.  He is now a RFA instead of being UFA, so this allows the Browns to match an offer made to him or recieve a draft pick compensation should he sign somewhere else.  That was a definite win for their FO, I'm sure they were almost hoping for him to mess up so they could pounce on this opportunity, especially seeing as how he wasn't going to be a factor in that last game anyway with how his play looked on the field.

Yes, but has there not been a lot of fogginess around the particulars of this suspension? Did he have a genuine reason?

I have not heard enough to say either way... but if the Colts used a technicality to avoid paying a player money that they are contractually owed, then I wouldn't be a big fan of the tact.

What is considered a genuine reason? The only reason that would apply as if it was impossible for him not to be there. At this point we don't know exactly what reason was given.

It's just football... If he had family problems, then that has to come first. Whether this was the case or not is the question.

I really don't forsee Trent being cut.  I don't think Colts are going to continue to give him the benefit of the doubt, and make him a priority, but keep him on the roster.   If they need him then he is available, If not then they wont renew his contract.   Now Ballard and Bradshaw will probably be cut, because they aren't on the field enough.  It appears the Colts are still searching for their next RB.  Boom has made a case but still has to prove he is worthy IMO.

Why would they not cut him, especially now that they have a way out of being stuck with his salary? They would be stupid not to cut him now.

Let me get this straight.  We can get rid of TRich and not have to pay him?......................

I would like to see what a healthy Ballard could do.  I am wondering aloud if he will ever get back his burst.  Bradshaw?   I like the Boom and I think Tipton can play some football.

Agreed on Ballard loved his play , will he be able  to come back and be productive ? Who knows but I sure hope so. Also your right on Boom and Tipton.

Then...we still have FA and the draft.  I feel a lot of good things coming up.  Irsay wants a Super Bowl.  Uhhh so does the old LB :)

I haven't read through the whole thread, so maybe this has been mentioned, but do you think he purposefully missed the walkthrough so the Colts could cut him.

Seems like something him and his agent might want.  If he didn't get suspended then the Colts would have kept him for next year and he would have been buried on the bench all year.
