overreacting undercover cops GIF by Comedy.com

I expected nothing less than overreactions. He said he didn't even have any pain. I honestly think this is 100% prevention.

On the optimistic side, could simply be that he has really been taking his footwork issues seriously and is simply using his muscles in a different way than he is used to. This could actually be a good thing.

The bolded thought occurred to me as well.

I think the words they used was "twinge". I'm not sure how serious it might be, but guessing if they sent the scans and x-ray to the NFL's foot guru, there something too it.

My personal meaningless-no-nothing prediction is that he has hairline or small fracture, and inflamed or tore some ligaments.

I read it here first

Good point. IDK anymore it's like if a dude has a hangnail he's out 4-6 weeks. To me it's just what does "something to it" mean? To me if you don't have pain you ain't playin football.

That's the way it was in my HS days... Just rub a little dirt on it, it'll be fine... lol.

Some guys are still that way. Rivers was. Brady I think played with a torn something last year.

I think teams are a lot more cautious then they used to be, for at least some players/positions.

Torn MCL. Hats off to him but the Bucs are getting hammered for it because they kept it off the injury report and tried to pass his surgery off as "clean up"

Honestly not sure why they hid it. They didn't really need to give details, just "knee" lol.

Bucs may be getting hammered for it but he has his 7th ring and Bucs fans are like this Star Wars Reaction GIF- in the end everyone knows the Patriots cheated but nobody cares because they won 6 SB's.

It’s just this ortho doctor who is guessing what is wrong. That’s all.

I ran 7 miles a day for 10 years when I was in my 30's, ran the mini in 2 hours and was never injured. These guys today step wrong and they miss half a season. I even drink beer a couple times a week and ate fast food and ran that thing in 2 hours. These guys today are soft. Rivers would play and say screw it - he is tough.

I think with rivers it would be different because he is a pocket QB. With a guy that uses his legs it’s totally different.

Nah, I have seen guys like Steve Young back in the 90's (he ran a lot) take a pounding and they never miss games. It is a mind set, when you play in the NFL unless it is something like a broken bone, Achilles, etc.. you play. My point is here lately, I have notice guys just step wrong and get injured. Another Steve, Steve McNair is the definition of toughness. He played through all kinds of pain. I loved Rivers, his leadership and durability are priceless + he was good last year. Before last season started I predicted 10-6 just because we had him and he said hold my beer 2006, I went 11-5. lmao

Oh I would definitively bring Wentz back, it's just an interesting scenario to think about though because week 5 is against the Ravens and Week 6 is against the Texans. So bringing Wentz back week 5 would be a rough matchup, while week 6 against the texans you could still beat them with a backup (if Watson isn't playing).

So maybe the real question would be how would you feel about starting 3-3 but get to keep our 1st rounder?

So. Just being hypothetical here… the wheels fall off ala 2011. Just an absolute train wreck. Top 5 pick bad. Wentz never plays a snap.

Should we consider going QB in that situation next spring?

I think the Ballard answer would be "We are always looking to improve at every position" lol

All depends on whose there.  If you think you have a chance to grab your QB for the next 15 years you do it without blinking.  It’s a little different but you have to look at like the Seahawks did with Matt Flynn and Russell Wilson.  They realized Wilson was special and went with him even though they gave Flynn a boat load of money and it worked out for them.

I just saw mention that  on espn news Wentz will see Dr Andrew’s in Monday. I can’t confirm that but just saw it mentioned.

Do you mean Dr Anderson the foot specialist or Dr James Andrews?  If it’s the later that’s normally where teams send guys for second opinions before major surgery.  He also is more known for things like ACLs than foot surgery but I guess he could do it.

I first heard 'rub some dirt on it' whilst watching Everybody Loves Raymond and I thought it was hilarious.

Absolutely we should go after a QB!

(given there are somebody they love)

The guy could even sit and learn behind Wentz the first year although it might hurt Wentz’s feelings but we will cross that bridge when we get there.

Naturally you prefer a first over a second rounder BUT I WOULDN'T at the cost of this season's record.

Even just 1 win or even a tie instead of a loss could mean the difference of a playoff birth or a Division title and a increased chance of a playoff run.

Of course you go QB but the colts would probably trade down and select a OL or DL.  :D

I did similar, not quite as many as 10 years, then suddenly, while running a straight line, I tore my ACL, PCL and a meniscus completely, and a partial tear in my LCL. All in the same knee. Then 5 years later, tore my patella in the same knee. I can’t run distance anymore. If I get 2 miles before the fluid builds up and swells, I’m lucky. Docs say I’m looking at a full knee replacement down the road.

Depends on who’s on the board and which pick it is. If it’s the number 1 pick and there’s no super stud at QB, then I’m trading back a few picks and getting either a stud at LT or a stud at CB. Maybe a WR if it warrants it

I think it depends really on how Eason or whoever is under center is looking. There’s a tiny tiny tiny tiny, did I say TINY, percent chance that Eason comes in and plays at least average for an NFL QB, Average with this team may be enough to compete for the division. Personally if it were me, if it looks like Eason is working out fine, and our record is 3/3 or 4-2, I’d ride Eason out for the season. Now if we’re 2-4 and the Titans are 5-1 or 4-2, and say the Jags or Texans are tied with them, I think I’d still ride Eason as the odds of winning the division would be minimal. So I guess what I’m saying is, it’s all relative.

interesting tidbit to keep in mind too, it’s not 70 percent of games played, it’s 70 percent of total offensive snaps. So let’s say our Offense can’t move worth crap ala Curtis painter era, and gets say 20 snaps average at QB per game, and then Wentz comes back, the offense suddenly comes alive for 40-45 snaps, it’s entirely mathematically possible for him to still play 70 percent of the snaps in the season.

I am almost 50 now so and out of shape, so if I ran a mile today I would do this tired collapse GIF by Scout Durwood and this lisa kudrow puke GIF by The Comeback HBO lol. I was always a good athlete in High School but gained a lot of weight while in my 20's - got up to almost 200 pounds. Basically when I turned 30 I just went into mental mode and trained like a mad man for years saying this has to stop. It got to the point where people thought I was sick because I only weighed like 140 pounds at 1 point. All I did was drink Slimfast, drink water, and ate tuna like twice a day for almost 2 years. I was running insane numbers on the tread as in 7.0 speeds for 6 miles a day, sometimes 7 miles a day. I once put the tread on 9.0 and ran a mile at Ballies and people looked me like was nuts haha. It damn near killed me I have to admit - I thought my legs were going to come off my body, but I wanted to see if I could do it. Outside running/jogging I ran around 7 miles too. I would do it 6 days a week and just take 1 day off. Once I got down to around 140 pounds then I started to drinking beer again and eating more (even fast food) but I kept the weight off because of the running/jogging. When I ran the mini I was at 150 pounds and did it in 2 hours. I am at 190 pounds or so now because I do too much of this simpsons eating GIF- I haven't ran/jogged in a long while. I am old now and rather would be like Homer and eat Donuts, Pizza, and drink beer lmao .

Funny thing is, I never was injured that whole time I ran and I did it for 10 years consistently. I was sore and had back and foot aches but nothing major.

NFL athletes are on an entire different level than us or what I was at 1 time but a lot guys have some the freakish injuries it seems. I have never claimed to be on that level, if I was I would've made the NFL. I respect what they do believe me but some players are tougher than others, Rivers never missed a game regardless.

Some people are like that. Others, like me, have become rather fragile. I’d never had a major injury until that first big knee injury. I’ve since torn a labrum(2x) a rotator cuff micro tear once, a lumbar muscle once, busted my ribs twice. And injured that same knee two other times. All in the 13 years since that knee injury

That's insane. A few years ago. I walked to 7-11 to buy a few scratch tickets (about 2 miles), and I ended up losing my $50 with some bad luck after I bought a few $5 and $10 tickets after people lost and I also lost. So even though I was tired, I couldn't take a taxi back home. So of course, a blizzard starts, my parents are at the casino so I can't call them to pick me up, and I literally have to run home two miles in the snow with no money on me uphill most of the way.

It was absolutely exhausting. When I got home, I was drinking water like crazy, laying on my back, trying to catch my breath. The hardest two mile run I ever did. My dog was licking my face all worried about me, and it was the hardest thing I had done since high school in gym when we ran laps.

Can't believe you ran 13.3 miles. I can't even comprehend that.

Gotcha. I came into running pretty late, not starting till I was 33 (typical reaction to realising you're not as fit as you were in your 20's!). The half is my favourite distance normally.

Going back to the points you were making, I got down to sub 1:20, but that was after pretty much committing 100% to eating well /training. It also took a huge toll physically, I don't think there was any day that some part of me was hurting, and I got into a bad cycle of overtraining and injury. I did start to appreciate more what professional sportspeople put themselves through, it's not just all about talent/ability. COVID has put paid to it all, much weight gained, and I've not run more than 10K in over a year now. Not sure I've got the fortitude to put myself through dieting and unfun part of getting fit again.

Small side note, the first marathon I ran was the hottest London one ever, it was like a warzone with queues of runners outside ambulances due to heat related collapses. Absolute respect for anyone who ever does one, regardless of time or even walking.

I think part of the reason teams are more cautious now is the idea of keeping your body healthy for your life after football. Let’s say theoretically Carson had a torn foot muscle and still played through it; 20 years down the line he could have massive pain walking on it and have to use a cane the rest of his life. This is a small example and may be unlikely, but football doesn’t last forever and eventually your body catches up to you. I would bet you good money Roethlisberger will be a health nightmare in 10-20 years, he’s a guy that’s played through everything

For those more experienced with sports equipment these days, I would have to think that the support offered by Wentz' cleats are not what they should have been.

Its grass, he wasn't running particularly hard.  A person could do that in their socks and not break a bone when planting a foot.

Back in the day when I wore cleats, they were very light but very thin, not very supportive at all.  I'm sure sports tech has come a long way, but golly it seems like the practice shoes should help with cushioning so that a player doesn't break a bone in his foot on grass when simply planting.

The above link to Dr. Chao's speculation indicated it would be the first six weeks of THE SEASON, not 6 weeks from now.  And that similar (potential) surgery for a more impact position like a RB or WR might cost the entire season.

If he is going to miss the first six weeks then I think we do need to try and trade for Foles. Doesn’t mean he will start but we need that insurance in case Eason struggles. Hopefully we find out tomorrow. I would also say missing six weeks of the regular he might want to just try and play on it if he can and medical doctors will let him. I would say 2 to 3 games he should have the surgery.

That makes more sense.

A broken bone in a cast will take at least 6 weeks to heal. Then you will need at least 3 weeks of physical therapy to strengthen the foot and leg.

That is if Wentz has a broken bone.

I went through the same thing when my daughter broke her ankle in a softball injury sliding into second base.
