Surprised about Holmes' release so soon, however, it could be that he asked for it to have a chance with another team in preseason. Then again, it could be that he wasn't in the Colts plans any longer.

I called the Holmes release. Harrison is next. We'll roll with Kelly and Blythe at center. Expect Zach Kerr next if he even makes it past training camp.

I agree except for the Kerricane.

He's GREAT rotation.

It's been a tough off-season for Luck. He got along really well with Fleener and Whalen, who are no longer with the Colts. And aside from his Stanford teammates, he got along well with Holmes. I'm sure he has other friends on the team, but this has to be a little heart breaking for him. He'll be fine however.

Although he will now have better protection, he is learning the business side of the NFL.

Yeah, i don't see Kerr being released unless someone else simply out performs him in the pre-season. He's the primary backup at NT right now.

Good. I am glad we are moving on from Holmes. Now about Harrison... Is he a pure center?

I see him moving over to backup guard.

Harrison was much better there. (Not that it was that hard to improve on his C play)

When they drafted Holmes, he came with an injury history. Sometimes, it is wishful thinking hoping an injured guy makes a turnaround and starts contributing. It is hard enough getting a healthy guy up to pace, even more so with a guy with a history of injury.

That is what I was thinking. I think we should hold on to him if we can for another season.

Wow I thought they would at least leave him on til camp.  I also thought Harrison would be first.  Seems too slow to play in the zone scheme.

But I'm happy if it helps Austin Blythe make the roster.  Have to root for the guys who played for Iowa.

And it's clearly not a sure thing yet but I'm feeling a lot more confident that Blythe will make the roster now.  He comes from a zone scheme in college and has played guard as well as center.  I could certainly see him beating how Harrison and being an interior swing-man backup.

It helps when we have centers and guards who can play multiple positions too. I think both Kelly and Blyth are really good and with time will improve this line a bunch. I think both of them play with a mean streak in them. We need more player like that IMO.

"

Everybody wants the skill position, but we were weak in the trenches on both sides of the ball and that's what needed to be addressed and we are. Grigson and Pagano know what this team is missing and they are going after it"

Lel. I love diggin up these old draft threads.

I must be getting too old for the internet.  I also recently was telling my 22 YO intern a story about something and I ended up having to give an explanation of what AIM because she didn't have a clue what I was talking about.

No, he's standard rotation. But he has weight and conditioning issues. Plus T.Y. McGill showed some potential as a better rotation. But Ridgeway might be able to play NT and DE, making him expendable. They let Winn go and he was better than Kerr IMO.

Props to you -- you called it.      I didn't agree, but you're clearly right.

My guess is they felt Holmes wouldn't win the spot in camp so they cut him now to give him a shot at hooking up with a new team as soon as possible.

Sorry to see him go out with a whimper and not a bang.    A shame it didn't work out.    There's another draft pick that goes down as a miss for Grigson.

Hopefully we hit on our 4 OL picks from this weekend.

It's about time the Colts have a very good OL.

Congrats!
