Colts waive/injured RB Vick Ballard (Mega Merge)

Recommended Posts

Per @RapSheet, the #Colts waived-injured running back Vick Ballard. Guess he wasn't getting healthy fast enough. Too bad.

I figure we'll bring up either Carter or Bray

I'm betting Bray for return duties so Dorsett can play offense in Hilton's absence

I am surprised. He showed well in his little pre-season time. Those legs still had some life. Guess he just couldn't stay healthy.

I have a feeling durability was key factor in his release

There has to be a bigger picture... Not saying that letting him go was a mistake by any means, but I don't understand what they have planned. Big moves coming potentially? Who knows

Wow. And he would have been back Sunday too. I'm actually shocked considering he's made it this far.

Bring back Bradshaw. Yeah, I said it! If Gore really is on a pitch count then have Bradshaw help us win some games before inevitably getting hurt again. Gore should be ready for the home stretch by then.

I do feel bad for Vick from the perspective of he worked hard to be a valuable contributor to this club. Sorry man. However, I'm glad that Grigs isn't too emotionally attached to players either. No Bob Sanders syndrome. If health is a lingering problem, cut them loose, & don't get bogged down with potential, expectations, & brief flashes of brilliance.

When it's time to move on, just do it. It had to be done even I know that.

Ahmad Bradshaw rumor mill warming up

Stephen Holder

With Vick Ballard waived, here's a running back to keep in mind: Ahmad Bradshaw. He's healthy acc to source and Colts have some interest

Well, they have this up at RotoWorld:

'The Indianapolis Star reports the Colts have "some interest" in free agent Ahmad Bradshaw.

Bradshaw's one-game suspension is up, and he's reportedly 100 percent healthy after breaking his leg last November. The Colts have wildly little depth behind aging starter Frank Gore, and Bradshaw was highly effective before going down last season. A reunion would make a lot of sense.'

Bradshaw is probably good for only 8 games...but might be worth having in the rotation.

I feel so horrible for Ballard. So horrible.

had to be a hard thing for Pagano to bring him into his office and cut him off like that.  almost Bill O'brien-ish.

I wish him the best, because he's had some serious bad luck.  Hope he gets picked up by someone that is willing to give him a chance.

I would have no problem picking up Bradshaw, that man is the appitamy of what a running back should be.

He's the "epitome" too. :P

On a non-spelling related note, I'm with you on that one.  Bradshaw is a great fit in the Colts' offense.  He is a weapon catching the ball out of the backfield and he runs hard north/south.

Ballard cleared waivers and reverts to the Colts IR. Injury settlement soon to come...

Can he go to the practice squad?

Nvm, this was a dumb question.

I'm not sure whether he's PS eligible. Those rules are pretty complicated anymore.

But we couldn't put him on our PS from IR or waive-injure status regardless. If he's PS eligible, he wouldn't be able to sign with our PS until six weeks after the length of the injury settlement.

I'm really surprised he's not a Cardinal. I guess with Ellington inactive for a bit, they don't have the roster space either.

    • It wouldn’t shock me if our receiving core was TY, Funchess, Campbell, Cain and Fountain though. Especially if someone steps up on punt returns.
    • Fountain couldn’t  even make the roster last season when we had no receivers though. Instead of saying working back into the lineup I could of said bringing him into the lineup slowly. I noticed today that a lot of players on other teams were announced as being on Pup today. Doesn’t look like Cain will be. He looks really good on videos he posts on Instagram.  This team is so high on him and think he is going to be a star. It would be shocking if they let him go before they see what he can do when fully healthy. Fountain would really have to show star potential.
    • This is where I think a lot of Colt fans could be disappointed - when was Cain ever IN the lineup?  He was obviously set up for more instant success than Fountain b/c of Clemson coaching and better competition (vis-a-vis that of N. Iowa).  However, Fountain has likely developed way more than Cain since he’s been in Indy.  And look up their workout numbers - Fountain is an incredible athlete.
    • All I read from that is that on two separate occasions he was frustrated. The first just after having a friend murdered, very understandable. the other after having a really poor game while hurt players scream at refs all the time so I don't hold that against him and he could have handled the media better but he wasn't even really that bad then.
    • The 2006 Bears finished 13-3 (best in the NFC), tied for 2nd in the NFL in points scored, were 3rd in points allowed, had a great two-headed rushing attack, and arguably the best defense/special teams in the league.  Oh, and they DESTROYED the Brees-led Saints 39-14 in the NFCCG...   How were the Bears a "weak" opponent?   Just because of Rex Grossman?  When the Ravens won a Super Bowl with Trent Dilfer, was that a "weak" team?  Were the Broncos "weak" when they won with a sub-par Manning?
