Yeah agreed, but likely via the draft on Day 3. I think the 1st and 2nd round picks are going to DE and LT.

There are some good WRs and CBs in the early rounds too I would love for the Colts. I’m not as impressed by the DE class this year.

Very very very cheap. Ballard-esque

Why don't I believe this yet?  I should be celebrating.  But I keep being skeptical at "well, this guy said that that guy said that he has a source that said...."

In an uncertain year, it makes sense for players to go somewhere that’s familiar either in scheme or coaching. We know we’ll have football, but how it all leads up to the start of the season will be a question mark all summer.

Take the familiarity in 2021, give yourself the best possible chance to prove it on a year or two year type of deal, and then make the money down the road.

Capspace update? Not sure I trust Spotrac or OtC right now

Thank you.   We’ve had some very good posts today,  but yours might just be the best!

Not expecting, but obviously hoping those comp picks hold up!

Can't trust Spotrac for teams with pending deals, but since the Colts have been relatively quiet, the 38 million should be fairly close. Substract the 6.5m Rhodes just got and we're left with roughly 31.5m.

Both Spotrac and OTC are not updated right after the transaction.   To the best of my knowledge they get updated once — overnight - and then those figures stay the same for 24 more hours until the next day.

And it has to be this way.  Because some teams are so busy, making so many transactions, they could never keep up with all 32 teams in real time.

So glance at those sights early in the day for the latest updates.  But those numbers will stay the same until the next day.  That’s my understanding.

It might be a little less since there was an OL signed today

$6.5m really only counts about $5.7m against top 51 cap space. A guy with $780k drops below the line

So probably closer to $33m.

Actually probably closer to $38m with Wentz moving $5m of roster bonus to next year.

Sign Hilton and Houston for $16m or less and still setting around $22-$23.6m(2 players drop below top 51 line). Before OL mentioned

I saw this rumor but until we see who and how much might as well not speculate.

That's not even how comp picks work lmao

Well it is, really. Players in vs players out, rounds determined by contract amount. Might not of been as simple as posted in the tweet, but true nonetheless. I actually think Brissett will be borderline 5th round comp.

Players out:

Autry -Ten

Brissett - Mia

Walker - Cle

Tremon Smith - Hou

Players in:

Rochell - SD

Brown - waiver claim ~ doesn't count against formula

Rochell and Smith cancel each other out right now

If for some reason Hilton and Houston end up somewhere else we will get a couple more. Depending who else we might bring in.

Wow, this is great stuff!   If your other post, the off-season re-set is my favorite post of the day, this is my second!   This is better than porn!   (Or so I’m told!).

And I honestly think this has turned into a very good day of posting from a large number of posters.  Lots of good info and thoughts in a number of threads.

Good day!

In my best effort to make your top 5 posts today, otc finally updated their compensatory pick cancellation chart for this free agency, so everyone can check in on the current projection: https://overthecap.com/compensatory-picks/ - basically confirms everything @w87r has said, except Rochell doesn't count against the formula as a RFA. The pick for Walker might not be among the Top 32 picks in the end, it's probably going to be very close.

Yeah, I was about to put that in my post about Rochell and Smith(not counting against formula, because of both their RFA status). Little Grey area though. So just went with cancelling out.

Also: Walker will be close.

But something else to consider. More signings somewhere could end up cancelling out a different comp pick somewhere.

@PureLuck I added a little more about Walker.

Thanks for the update. I was literally just looking for an updated list as I was making that post.

I guess time will truly tell, but often paying large sums of money to free agents ends up backfiring badly.

The Titans are all in, trying to make that jump to the Chiefs (good luck to them with that...)

The Patriots are trying to build up a strong roster right now. Perhaps they’re planning on using the draft capital to snatch a QB of the future?

I think a lot of teams are freaking out at the moment trying to catch up to the Buccaneers and Chiefs. But if you look at the situations 6 days in, most of them still aren’t close.

This was a fear about Ballard. He’s much more patient than the average GM. And most fan bases can only stand a few years of a rebuild before they start getting upset.

So to build on the Offseason summation post.

Remaining needs and options:

WR: Hilton, Watkins, Josh Reynolds(?),

LT: Villanueva, Okung, Wagner(of Braden is switching sides)

DE: Houston, Dunlap, Clowney, Ingram, Vernon

Also should have enough for our extensions. That would be a big win this offseason(to lock up Leonard and Smith long term)

Yeah, I was thinking about the possibility of some of the picks above Walker getting cancelled out, but I suspect the teams holding those projected comp picks might prefer keeping those picks over signing another middling FA. Could be wrong obviously, but the top of the market is mostly gone now, so I do not expect many of those picks getting cancelled out.

I could care less about the Pats but many still bring them up. So I want to say this, the reason why they were able to go hog crazy and sign some big names to big money is because they are not paying their QB hardly anything. If they were paying Cam 25-30 Mill a year like most teams do for good to great QB's they wouldn't be able to splurge like they have. Hell if Wentz was only making making 10 Mill a year, Ballard could've signed 2 or 3 huge names to huge money. I hope this makes sense to some people lol. Then again it probably doesn't homer simpson whatever GIF

I’m kind of enjoying watching what the Patriots are doing.  Throwing money around trying to play catch up.  Reminds me of the Jets, Redskins, and Jaguars.  Been tired of watching them methodically dominate the league for the past 20 years doing just the opposite.  Good to see the desperation.

Here's my question what is the date when free agent hiring doesn't effect compensation picks?

Because I could see us not signing anyone till after that date then signing someone like Clowney who last season waited a long time to sign with a team, and may do that again

I believe it is May 7th.? Not 100% on that without looking up, if not, it is right around there.

Monday after the draft I think is the date.
