Eason ahead of the curve

I actually recall a story from I believe Brazill where he said Andrew knew the entire playbook by rookie mini camp and was already making audibles. Obviously I don't expect that from Eason, but that's impressive

Andrew has a pornographic memory

That was toward the end of Edge & during the Rhodes & Addai era.  Only fools gave Edge a light box (I think the Bears were such fools).

The Bears?  In the Superbowl?  Are you saying the Bears were so scared of Edge that when he was on his couch in AZ they were altering their defensive approach for the Colts in the SB? Or, and this is quite possible... was there some random game vs. Chicago where Edge destroyed the Tampa 2? Lol

Lol, it was from 2004. I believe we smoked ‘em like 41-10 and Edge had over 200 yards rushing.

Doesn't matter what your curve is vs the staff who is actually evaluating this young talent!  Nobody is comparing this 4th rd pick to Peyton Manning or Andrew Luck so not sure why Colts Nation doesn't BELIEVE in this young talent?  From # 1 overall pick to the 122nd pick is no comparison in the eyes of the beholder but the talent level might not be all that far apart.  Peyton/Luck were born to take over an NFL offense from day 1 which validated the #1 overall pick but if Eason is granted a yr or two to learn the NFL game, the void seems to close significantly.  Eason has all the tools physically that you cant teach but its up to Coach Reich to teach the mental part that both Peyton/Luck were born with!  Before we completely write this kid off, please remember that the great Peyton/Luck combo only brought 1 Championship to this great

Me thinks you dont need an ELITE nfl QB to win multiple SBs. Terry Bradshaw anyone?

You do realize the Steelers at that time had like 10 HOFers/ and or All Pros on their team right

Of course, but THAT team had EIGHT HOF......

We may have ONE

During that time period teams kept their players. There were a handful of elite teams. Today's league isnt nearly the same and the competition is much less fierce from team to team. NO team 'right now' has even close to 8 HOFers. Are there even 8 HOFers in the entirety of the league right now?  Honest question. Because idk.

But the point remains the same. You dont need an elite QB to win multiple SBs if you have the proper supporting cast. I dont believe you need 8 HOFers in today's league to win multiple.

Now, I'm not saying Eason is that guy or ever will be. Who knows.

This can also be in response to @CR91

Terry Bradshaw was the right guy for that team to do what they did. And I'm not taking away from that. Skill wise, you dont need elite traits to put it all together with the right staff and the right team.

My obvious hope's are that the Colts can attain the same status as the likes of the Steelers, and Patriots.

It was a regular season game where Edge had over 200 and I don’t think our starters played the 4th.  We used to get to see Sorgi in mop up time at least like once a year back i

then.

I think Eason will look back at college as the best times of his life. Unless, we put together a team so good that his lack of effort does not matter. He will never be great. I think he could become VERY above average if he put all his effort into it. I just don't see him doing that. But, with a great team it might not matter.

Jeez. Who peed in your Cheerios. Lol. Can we not at least give credit to Eason for getting together with some of the wideouts. It shows something. It shows the effort that everyone has wanted to see. We never saw JB do this and haven’t seen Rivers do it yet.

His lack of effort?

What the hades are you talking about?

I have no problem if you don't care for him but sorry, your comment is ridiculous.

You could have won a ton of money if 3 months ago you bet that it would be Jake Fromm on the verge of being cut for off-field dumbassery and Eason would be looking like a mature guy with chip on the shoulder who's doing great in meetings and showing initiative working out with his teammates...

Oh well... only comes to show we know nothing... and sometimes even NFL execs know nothing.

Fromm's going to have a hard time trying to explain this one to his team mates.

Luck had a photographic memory which is great for remembering playbooks. I remember hearing a story that he remembered the verbiage of a play that his team ran only once way back in high school.

But reading defenses and spending extra time in the film room & with  his receivers is where he was not so great.

I guess what I was getting at is Eason doesn't have to be great for this team to have success!  Sometimes it comes down to a Championship roster or a coaching staff to have the right gameplan to be Championship worthy but one thing Eason brings to the table is a lower cap hit to field a better team.  I give you 1K likes for comparing Peyton to Brady, Montana, Jordan, Gretzky and Ali just like he deserves but all these greats had Championships to back their greatness!  It's a shame a talent like Peyton didn't end up the GOAT as he sure had the talent but it further cements my theory that it takes a complete staff to win titles in this league.

Teams have won and gone to SB's and even more have reached the championship game without a great QB. However, in today's NFL if you don't have a elite or very good QB your at a significant disadvantage when going against your opponent who has a elite QB.

However that doesn't mean Eason cant be a excellent QB. I have no idea if he'll ever make it as a starter or not. He's played only 1 season in college because of losing 1 season due to injury and another by being a transfer. But he has the tools, size and a Big arm, and thats something you can't teach.

I personally like the pick and his potential.

Good article...excited to see what he can do when TC starts. I still think there is a path to backup for him.

On a side note..:why did this post get merged into another Eason thread about some coaches’ comments from a month ago?

I understand the need to merge...especially duplicate topics...but I think this article encompassed much more. But when someone comes to the site...it just looks like another poster made a random comment on this month-old thread about something the coaches said...when that poster actually posted a link to an in-depth article that was about much more.

To clarify, my response was to a post that was removed from the board, not at a post that asked another poster why a post was merged.  That post is still live

If you have questions or concerns about a merge, message a moderator.  We are happy to answer

I found it rather easily. Saw it had been merged, clicked on the link and went to the last post and traced it back until I saw today's post. And I do not consider myself a budding Bill Gates....good article though!

Ok...but that's actually a lot of steps to get to a discussion...especially when some threads are pages upon pages long. It made sense during the season (like the JB impressions thread)...but in this case...it was brand new content that was about much more than some coaching comments made a month ago.

I don't really care...I just thought in this instance...it was a bit too zealous...especially with the lack of NFL news.

I did not see the other post...so I apologize for reacting sharply to @Nadine...I had thought the post above was directed at me and was confused at the response.

Ok I looked it up. That’s a pretty bad thing to say but I find it really ridiculous people are digging up old texts.

It’s what some people enjoy, looking for anything to tear another down. If we all the capabilities or care to go searching for an ignorant comment we’ve made, most everyone has a skeleton to hide. Everyone has made a comment or statement they wouldn’t want out in public. This is a small droplet in the sea of water we live in.
