Tony Donohue: Luck will not play this year

I said at my fantasy draft back in August after everyone looked at me cross-eyed for getting outbid on Andrew Luck for the first time since he's been in the league, "I have my doubts he's going to play this year...shoulder injuries are not atypically an 18-month venture...I'm not betting on him."

So this wouldn't surprise me...moreover, this is the smart money bet at this point...

Look at this this way...

1. Luck will be 100% next year

2. We will have a much better coaching staff

3. We will have at least a top 10 pick for the first time since 2012 and years before that

4. More free agent talent will want to come here due Luck being 100% and the new coaching staff

5. Tickets for former ticker holder like me that live in Kentucky will be really cheap

God bless you all and GO HORSE

I don't believe these to be true or certainties.

Number three and five may be true the others are in doubt.

It has become obvious that even if healthy putting Luck on the field with this team would be a huge mistake . He has been running for his life his entire Colts career The front office has failed once again , Brissett will be lucky to last all season & what then ?  Tolzien our 2017 version of Curtis Painter ? This is a bad joke as a fan I wait year after year to see a decent O-line & a running game that can actually help out the QB & I see it on every team in the AFC South but the Indy Colts . While we get worse with every passing season every other team is upping there game .

It is mind boggeling the first pick in the 2012 draft was the best thing that could of happened for the Indianapolis Colts but like with Peyton Manning you have to surround the franchise QB with some weapons . Our O-line is a weakness & our defense can't stop any body its impossible to watch the Colts without thinking what an embarrassment I will not pay one penny to watch this team I can barely stand to watch them on T.V .

I thought for sure it could'nt get worse . I was sadly mistaken .

Agreed. I also think the way the front office is taking care of players better (Luck for example) will be a + when it comes to free agents.

Hard to believe that after all the dust is settled , we have an offensive line that has 2 legitimate NFL starters. Assuming Mewhort will never be the same (very , very possible) , you have a middle of the road starting LT that is making around 11 mill a year and a second year C that was drafted probably 10 spots higher in the first round than centers would normally go. The rest of the roster does not contain a starting C , G or T. Does Irsay take medication to tolerate this ?

I don't see that at all.  At 3-13, with Luck's health and future in question, this team will have trouble landing a quality coach and signing free agents.

Subtract Luck and we are the Browns.  Unfortunately that's how people will be looking at us.

If true then this is the best news I have heard pertaining to the Colts in the past few weeks.

Shut Andrew Luck down! No need to add him to this dumpster fire.

#COLTS2018

I have to agree. Save the man for 2018 and put him on IR to give the team another player slot. Maybe for Geathers or, dare I dream, Swoope?

Jeez why do some of you act like luck is ruined for life he had a shoulder surgery he's coming back fine and they prolly see no reason to rush him out to play with this trash o line QBs have recovered  from these injuries before next year will be great we get our QB back and we will have a HC with a brain

Hopefully this is true and confirmed by the Colts soon.

The only thing about this news that I question is if true, why not put him on IR?  The fact that they haven't, at least not yet, gives me pause.  I guess it is possible they want him to be able to throw when he is able which he would not be able to go on IR.

I think you can’t practice on IR?? Someone confirm if true or false.

If the confirmation you're looking for is Luck being put on IR, I don't see that happening. But reading between the lines, I'd say it's a safe bet that he doesn't suit up this year.

Hate to say it, but I am starting to believe it myself.  Dan Dakich has been saying this for several weeks now and restated it yesterday.

It is what it is, but if he does in fact rehab to the point he is released by the docs he needs to play.  Regardless of the teams position in the standings.  It sure as hell didn't matter last December so it shouldn't matter now.  I prefer to see him on the field if he is able.... even if it is the last game and we are 2-13.

My fear is that Luck may never be the same. If I understood Herm Edwards right the other day, Chad Pennington had the same surgery and never was the same. He suggested to sit Luck for the year. The other side of the coin though, if healthy the colts may need him to play so he can be better evaluated. They also need to see where he's at recovery wise so they know the direction to go before the draft in case something is off with him. Sure hope he doesn't end up like Pennington.

We can hope Luck recovers and can make every throw but if there was a year to hit the reset and start over with a new coach a loaded QB class and a high draft pick this is the year .

Exactly! I think if he is healthy at some point or any point the front office needs him to play for evaluation if nothing else. He has to be 100% of course so there are no surprises.

Being a medical person I'm telling you this type of surgery on a quarterback is ALMOST equivalent to Tommy John surgery in baseball ...It takes a full year 12 months plus to recover

Who will we beat?  2-14 is more like it.

Buffalo is one of those teams that always looks solid and then fades.

I'm guessing Buffalo honestly.

But I wouldn't be shocked if we didn't win anymore.
