Not crying about waiving Griff - he's had a remarkable and most unlikely NFL career. But this was done for a reason, yet I don't understand why.  I doubt Griff asked for it so he could pursue his options.

I agree. I seriously doubt he has any nfl options.

And btw, great news!

Next, pagano!

dude can catch, but i dont think he has nfl level talent

he has twice as many career fumbles as TDs

he's too slow to play the small WR role, and he coughs up the ball

on return duty, he is known as the human fair catch.  we can do better

He doesn't hold onto the ball. Pretty simple.

Cue the "But the Edelman/welker comparisons!" He was a nice 5th Wr/special teamer...do the right thing kinda guy....his value was always hyper-inflated due to his connection with Luck and intimate knowledge of Peps college offense. Add in the fumbles and lack of play making ability and then the bone headed NE blunder and he is lucky to have had as long a career as he did. Nice guy hope he has a great future ahead of him but I don't think it will be in the NFL....maybe Pep will hire him as a WR coach somewhere when Pep turns up.

Really weird roster move, IMO. He's on IR, not taking up a roster spot. He's on a minimum contract, and gets paid for this week because he was on the roster on Tuesday. So it doesn't save money, and doesn't save a roster spot. He can't play, because he just had a pretty significant injury.

Seems like it might be related to the front office moves.  I kind of think the Dwayne Allen IR might also be related to the front office moves.

Just seems like there may be some sort of allegiances that are being severed.  Allegiances to whom is unclear.

I'm usually the last guy to pile on about a player's poor performance, but Griff made two absolutely inexcusable plays at crucial points this year. His play in the new england game cost us a chance at winning, and his fumble in the Houston game lost us the AFC South. So, yeah, Griff was not high on my "we better keep" list.

He's a good possession receiver. He's never gunna burn you on the outside. He's Julian Edelman with less speed and explosion.

If he is used properly he could be really good.

If he played in NE, he'd be a 60 catch receiver.

Well now that is completely false.  He is not good at football and doesn't belong in the nfl

Wow sure hate to see Griff go :(  Best of luck Griff wherever you wind up !!!

And for the record, Griff did NOT single handedly lose the Texans game for us !!!  We had plenty of opportunities to win that game, but we let them slip thru our fingers.

Maybe we'll sign Brian Quick to be our 4th WR this offseason. I don't get what's up with him. Last year he was on his way to having a breakout season and becoming a really good WR. Then he got hurt. Then this year He's barley played. He has like 6 or 7 catches all year. We can sign him on a cheep 1year deal to come in and be our number 4 and who knows maybe he can break out with us. But our main 3 is set for next year. Hilton, Moncrief, and Dorsett are the starters. Then Quan Bray will be the 5th guy for return purposes. All we gotta do is bring in a 4th receiver. Or a main backup.

Look here man. I loved griff. But why do some people not realize how good a guy like Edelman or Welker is? I mean just because we had a small white boy wide receiver doesn't mean he's as talented as one of those guys. Its like every small white receiver is the next Welker or Edelman. LOL.

The Colts are just putting band aids on positions that need it.  They need to overhaul the team from GM to the coaches.  Bring Mike Shanahan, he can groom A Luck and at the same time establish a running game.  The GM, DC, HC, OC,, etc all must go.  There are no second guessing on this move.  They've had  opportunities, they're just not NFL caliber GM and coaches, enough said...

Let somebody hit you hard enough to break ribs and lets see how well you hold on to the football.

My guess is you probably wouldn't have got back up and made the tackle either.

You weren't supposed to notice the lack of logic.

All I know is, it's really hard to keep control of the ball you just caught when you're all busted up and Bubba the Bruiser comes along and wants to make it hurt more.

    • All - this is the real question.   What do the 32 GMs in the league know that the rest of us (we're on the outside looking in) don't know?   Answer that question and you'll have what you need to analyze the choices made by the leadership of your favorite team.
    • We have the weak secondary where a player in FA can be signed for a year and get a starting job. We also have the money to afford any of them. Not too many other teams have that combination of both factors right now. Also, the draft recently happened and I'm guessing a lot of these teams want to try out their early round picks in the secondary right now. We didn't draft anyone in the secondary until the 5th round. We are somewhat desperate (not to mention Daniel Scott is out for the year again). Other teams are not at the moment.
    • Why do you think A and B are the only options?    What’s the reason for Ballard to be cheap?   What incentive would there be?    Posters like Superman and w87r have crunched the numbers.  The Colts are among the league leaders in spending.     Ballard’s is going into his 8th year.  He’s been competitive in 6 of the 8 seasons and I personally think season 1 was a tank.    Also…. Ballard always says the team is always looking to improve.  It’s now mid-June, so the Colts have 5 more weeks to sign someone before camp starts.  There are a number of FA safeties available.  Why aren’t the other 31 teams signing these players either.  They’re certainly good enough.  But it’s Ballard who is wrong or incompetent or cheap or something and not anyone else.
    • This is a great story on Mitchell. The part in here where Mitchell explains how much he appreciates Ballard going to bat for him was awesome.
    • As the old saying goes, you want to draft guys who can get into the end zone, or guys who can knock down their QB.     I think the Colts are built that way.  With a lot less emphasis on guys who can cover their WRs.     Ball control, minimize their opportunities to score.
