Be careful what you wish for. Your probably going to see a complete cleaning plus players and we are going to have some rough years. But if it is done right it could be fun seeing a new team develope.Peyton will probably retire or be gone and the luck era is going to start. I dont think this is anything to cheer about

Irsay is on record saying Peyton will be back if he's healthy, so I'll take the word of the owner on that one. Change isn't always pretty but eventually it is always necessary.

I know this is moving parts and this could very well be changed but Kravitz is tweeting that he has confirmed: Polians gone and no decision yet on Jim Caldwell.

It could be Irsay looked at the team and said look the problem is a lack of talent and Don Shula could have coached this team and they wouldn't have done much better. With that said if we have a new GM even if it's not today the clock is ticking on Caldwell. New GMs tend to want their own guys even if they don't get them right away.

Here's the thing if we have a new GM, which it sure sounds like we are going to it's only a matter of time till Caldwell is gone even if it's not today. GMs want their own guy.

Here's my question who is going to be the new GM? I've seen everyone's thoughts on a new headcoach but I haven't seen anything on who people would want as a new GM?

I hope it is not A.J. SMITH!,Ithink you are looking at a coach/gm.

Well A.J. Smith hasn't been fired yet as far as I know with that said Irsay plucked Polian away from the Panthers when he wanted him so if he wants another guy he might have gone out and got him or could wait to get someone in a few days.

It could be the delay today was Irsay getting the guy he wanted in place.

One source insisted that Indianapolis shouldn't be ruled out. Fisher has a strong relationship with Colts vice chairman Bill Polian, whom he served with on the league's competition committee. The possibility also exists that the Colts might have two franchise quarterbacks on their roster in 2012.

Whats odd here is since Polian is fired. . .is it more likely or less likely to see Fisher?

I have mixed feelings, but I'll support the change. I'm guessing this means we're now "rebuilding"....I can't imagine Jim Caldwell will stay after this...unless Irsay thinks the Polians didn't give Caldwell enough control...I don't know.

At least it's something, I guess....

If the Colts hire Fisher, I guarantee he conditions taking the job on Manning being here next year. He will have options, so he can leverage that out of Irsay, I'd imagine.

Absolutely Ky,,, This guy loves Peyton and he knows us through and through from facing us for years.

..and there cant be any tears for the Polians...

What a surprise! And I don't think this means Peyton is gone either, quite the contrary! I think firing the Polians was a condition of Peyton. I read some rumors he wasn't very happy with Bill the last months. So good news, it's time for a change. Hopefully Caldwell, Christensen and Rychalski are the next.

I was thinking similar things. There is a masochistic side of me (the side that would cut off my nose just to spite my face) that has wanted some of you guys to get exactly what you have been asking for over the past few years. People seem to be somewhat blinded by the frustration of being on the precipice for so many years without being able to get over the summit. I understand the frustration, but at the same time I remember what the bad years were like. Polian has been fired before for not being able to get teams over that summit. Buffalo has been floundering around in futility for the past 15 years since they fired Polian. Carolina is just now starting to look like they may be righting the ship. I just don't see why people think that Indy is going to be different and firing Polian is going to be the magic fix all. I hope you guys are right.

    • I'm wondering if Steichen has had a good influence on him, or if Ballard just had a change in philosophy. It could be as simple as Latu being the BPA on defense, so we'll see as the draft goes on today and tomorrow what type of players he takes. Definitely promising to see him take Latu over Turner though. I was cheering from my house when that happened.
    • My wife and I are both 30, but we feel like old people. I don't get the sunglasses indoors, TikTok dances, or constant selfies in public, but oh well. I suppose my kids will have a leg up in the job market when they've practiced communication skills rather than the dance of the week! 😂
    • I just want to point out that Ballard again told us the truth in his pre-draft presser. His answer to the question of whether he has changed anything in his draft philosophy, pretty much explains the Latu pick in view of him being a bit of a departure from what he's usually done (i.e. super high level athleticism, some projection of what the player can be vs what he is now)     "of course you look for unique talent, unique traits, ...character... but then also... on the flip side of that making sure that we are drafting not only the unique traits but also some substance with the tape"...    So yeah, I think this answer a very good explanation of that pick... "substance with the tape". Not that Latu is not athletic. He is, but his athleticism is not his selling point. The selling point is the substance - the technical refinement, the tape, the production.    With that said... I wonder if we will continue to see that on day 2 and day 3? Can we see one of the Ballard's lowest RAS drafts?
    • From @nsurg   "So he had a cervical fusion... this is a surgery I do frequently.  Once it heals the surgery is more or less the strongest part of the neck.  The biggest problems with a fusion in this context are:        (1) loss of nerve function prior to surgery may or may not recover after surgery, usually over the next 3-12 months (but his production after surgery implies no major concern on this)        (2) the patient will have somewhat accelerated wear/arthritis at non fused levels.  While this is a real concern, it will unfortunately be more of an issue for him later in life, after his NFL career.                 Peyton had this surgery as his final neck surgery before playing for the broncos, but his problem was number one above, he apparently never had the same arm strength as before.        Ahmad Bradshaw also had this same surgery in 2013, he already had I think 6 years of RB play prior to that.  His YPC held up but was utilized less, but this may mirror more a tapering RB career.                 I'm not personally worried about the medical status of this player, but I have no idea the actual details obviously.  I will say that very few surgeons would be eager to clear the player to play afterwards, mostly for the stupid liability things in medicine.                 I think it's fair to say we got a really nice pick here for value."   https://forums.colts.com/topic/76891-colts-select-laiatu-latu-edge-ucla/?do=findComment&comment=2646941
