Likely. An onside kick to the middle of the field to be recovered by the punter isn't exactly the type of play you prepare for. Why they didn't have anybody in the center of the field is beyond me.

I have never seen one side of a receiving team play for an onside kick while the rest run back. Just give up bro, you've lost this argument. Comments are now just looking ignorant and intentionally refusing to admit to the obvious. You know what, forget it. I just prefer to ignore *.

Of course not, but that was never my argument. When you see a team kick a surprise onside kick, it's almost always because, when they watched the opposing team on tape, they say that the'ye special team players turn their back too quickly during the kickoff. When you do a surprise onside kick, when the teams you're playing later on the season watch the tape on you, they'll focus more on the special teams players being more aware of watching the kick-off before they turn their backs.

 

 

I'm perfectly fine having a constructive conversation  about this, but if you want to continue to use ad-hominen attacks, I see no reason for this to continue.

 Thats exactly what you just said, that they were expecting it to the one side and not down the middle.  Either way they didnt play for an onside kick.  You really think they dont tell ST to prepare for onside kicks, that they shouldnt turn their backs too quickly?  Is that not part of what ST do?  If the players make the mistake thats on them.   If other teams delay on their run, this only allows our ST players to get passed the defenders and get to the ball quicker to prevent run outs or catch them sooner when they do.  Its a win win. 

 

want more proof, refer to the highschool coach who ALWAYS onside kicks.  I know its high school, but the teams know its coming and most of the time they cant stop it.

This is actually another point in Pat's favor. All those touchbacks from him booming it out of the back of the endzone completely eliminate any chance of a return game from explosive return men, which in turn shuts down a huge portion of the opponent's special teams game plan. In a game like football where all it takes is one missed blocking assignment to swing momentum, completely eliminating the chance for that to happen is a huge boon to special teams. 

 

Don't hate the touchback, cheer it like the fantastic thing it is.

I totally agree for the rules.  We need to utilize what we have SkyBane.  Patty Mac has become the best punter and kickoff specialist in the league.

 

I hope we save those onside kicks along the way to the playoffs.  :  I think he called that one on his own last night.....WOW.....loved it. :blueshoe:  :blueshoe:  :blueshoe:

I love it when football players have fun on the field, without being disrespectful to the oponent..

Regarding last night's onside kick, i know we all wanted our coaches to be less conservative, but to go for an onside kick in first quarter with a 7-0 lead was absolutely unnecessary..

I didn't like that decision at all..

 

Did you watch the game at all? It was a 100% guaranteed recovery by the Colts. The Texans were 20 yards off the ball. It was genius.

I do not think I have EVER seen the center of the receiving team that far back since I have watched football.

Amazing the ST coach looked as though he was mad at his players. He called the terrible formation.

Did you read his lips during replay? lol, lets just say he didn't seem happy with himself!

ABSOLUTELY AWESOME!!!

My heart stoped for a moment, as that ball gingerly bounced towards the required 45 yard line..

There was no player around, but the ball barely crossed the line by one yard..

I was afraid the ball would take a weird bounce sideways or that pat would panic and touch it before it crossed 45..

It turned out perfect!

On a serious not, how is Pat not in discussion for being the best specialist in the game? He's an excellent punter and he kicks the definition of PERFECT onside kicks, 3 of which have been recovered.

 

He's been near-perfect so far this season, and did get ST player of the month for Sept..  He deserves to be included in that discussion.

 

Also, as he ran up and turned around, waiting for the ball you could tell he only had two things in mind: 1) Grab it, and 2) Get on the turf and don't get smashed.

I think the man is playing at a Pro Bowl level this season. 3 successful on side kicks is amazing plus he constantly kicks it out of the end zone. Could a kickoff specialist go to the Pro Bowl as the 3rd special teamer besides the kicker and punter?

with his play and how well he's liked he will prolly make the pro bowl as the punter so no reason a 3 special teamer is needed he IS the best punter in the NFL lol

And what is that supposed to prove. They still didn't play it that way. You can guess and hope what someone might do all day but doesn't mean they are going to. The right and left sides all went back as well.
