Who should cover Ertz?

We all know that Shady McCoy is lightning in a bottle, and yes I'm worried about him (and Sproles for that matter) but I think that Ertz could really do a lot of damage to us.

DQ Jackson: Can't cover athletic TE's with his apparent lack of speed.

McNary: he definitely has the speed, but if we have him cover Ertz, then we are open to middle of the field passes against DQ.

Butler: Is an excellent slot defender, but is he big enough?

OLB: I hate it when when we drop Werner into coverage. He's our best pass rusher now, and needs to be going after Foles.

Chris Carter (OLB): I haven't seen him play, but he has some wheels and some impressive cone drill numbers (faster that TY) I know cone drills don't mean that much, but maybe that speed/agility might just translate to covering down field. Idk, just a thought.

What do you guys think?

Rather it's McNary or Jackson the Eagles are going to have a mismatch because that means the other one is on Sproles. The Colts might play a lot of nickel which would probably mean the MLB on Sproles and Butler on Ertz and I am not sure he's big enough to cover Ertz.

I'm thinking Butler on Sproles and McNary on Ertz would be best bet.

He will get he LB's I don't see why we would do anything special with vs Ertz. There are a few TE's in the league you have to change your game plan a little in my opinion. We played one of them last week and did nothing special. Why would we with this guy?

Ertz is not a physical inline blocker, he can hurt us only by catching the ball.

Worry about Sproles more, given the fact that they ran him between the tackles too. Now, his running and catching is something we need to keep a lid on. Much like the MJD factor, Sproles can get lost behind those big OL.

Everything is set up with McCoy and Sproles. If you bottle them up, that is where the game will be won. Ertz might get his catches and maybe a TD but he is not the chain mover that McCoy and Sproles are and does not see as many snaps as them. Let not one game change everything we do on defense.

Purifoy or Gordy. Run Nickel & Dime like we did Denver but let the CB's cover the TE and the LB's get the QB & RB's

But then again you have to remember...... This team is the same team that has a DC that puts LB's on WR's so we'll see what happens

You know what, I agree with Purifoy.  We need some energy and the kid plays with a ton of it....lets see him in 'situations.'

LB or Adams depending on how we are lined up. Ertz is not that special to game plan around. We need to game plan how to generate pressure and stop their run game while dealing with whatever crazy stuff Kelly pulls out of his hat.

The run defense has been stout since preseason, it's pass defense & pass rush where we go brain neutral

The guy who had 86 yards  in the air and set up the Eagles in position to score several times in the game

He did not kill us nearly as much as Sproles and McCoy, that was the point I was trying to make :). The death knell was Sproles, then McCoy and then the rest, IMO.

Sproles f*cking us is a given. It's just what he does.

Ertz still had a hell of a game. If Allen or Fleener had the same stat-line, we would all be giddy with joy. They had a chance too. Going up against Mathews, but we never took advantage of that.

    • I can’t wait for this weekend to be over so we know who is on our 90-Man Roster so we can irrationally discuss who we think (from the UDFA’s) will make the 53-Man and/or practice squad.
    • The REFS are still bad. Pacers pretty much got jobbed last night but it was a great entertaining game. Regarding Brunson, he played for our guy George Clooney at Villanova and won 2 National Championships in 2016 and 2018. Brunson is a fantastic player. @w87r, I sort of disagree with you about Haliburton. Rick Carlisle was on the morning show earlier and said that Haliburton is dealing with a major back issue. He did play through it vs the Bucks but it has got worse apparently. If you have a back issue (especially a major one), it takes away your ability to do almost anything. I knew something was wrong because around the 2nd Qtr he wasn't aggressive at all after that. He usually at least drives hard and makes the right pass if his shot is off.
    • I lived in Clarksville, Tennessee for a spell about 20 years ago.  I had a Colts plate on the front bumper of my pickup.  Someone tore it off one night
    • I don't follow the NBA but on Sunday, my brother asked me if I was following the Knicks. I replied that he knows I don't watch the NBA. He told me I may enjoy it now because there is a lot more action. He added, "The Knicks have this kid Brunson that you have to see." When I used to follow the Temple Owls, Rick Brunson was a player for the Owls. This kid Brunson is his son.   I know none of the players. I even asked my brother if LeBron was still in the NBA. 😂 Is that guy Ball still in the NBA?   Who is the best player on the Pacers? The last time I watched a game, Oladipo was with the Pacers.  I see he no longer is.   I may watch a game this week.
