It's NOT that easy..I'm not sure why people think it is.. You can't just cut a guy!

NFL players have contracts for a reason! If they just cut him they still have to pay for what they guaranteed.

Plus like stated above either trade him to get rid of his contract or use him as depth..

But I'm all for Brown starting until he shows he can't.

You CAN just cut a guy. Like you say, his salry for the season is guaranteed, but that doesn't mean you can't cut him. It only means he'll still get paid. And I doubt his contract has any offset language, so if another team picks him up, we would only have to pay the remainder of what the new team doesn't pay.

Also, if we cut him after the trade deadline, he goes through waivers. His contract isn't that big, so I think someone would pick him up, in which case we don't pay any of what's left on his deal this year.

People are undervaluing Landry severely.  He actually had a couple very solid games this year.

Everyone doubted Sergio's abilities before he got his starting opportunity this season.  I started a thread predicting that he would play well (based on the fact I got to see him play extensively at Notre Dame).

Now, after a few quality starts, everyone is on the Sergio bandwagon.

Sergio has been playing well but you need depth at a position like Safety.

Cutting LaRon Landry is about as funny as the fire pep, grigson, and chuck jokes lol.  Really?  Why in the world would you cut him?   Who would you suggest be backup?  I think most people will be surprised how well he plays when he comes back.  If he doesn't then we could always put Sergio back in and find a replacement in the offseason.  It will continue to be a priority anyway, after the season.

I'm sure he doesn't have much trade value, so that shouldn't be an option.

I just don't understand how good our team is, but people still find a way to complain!  I hope the people who want Landry out admit they're wrong, if he shows them up.  I think Landry has under performed considering his abilities, and getting suspended looks bad on him, but I'm not giving up on him.  I remember the first few games last season before he got injured, so I know what he is capable of.  I think most people have unreal expectations or false perceptions.  Just like Nicks and T Rich, if they're not performing as highly as Luck or Hilton then something is wrong because they have a big name, but not putting up the big numbers.  Get off there backs!! We have playmakers everywhere, as long as they're doing what's asked of them why be so critical?  Be patient were still such a young team with great potential. Everyone will continue to get better!

I certainly hope Brown stays in the starting lineup once Landry is back but cutting him now would be a terrible idea.  We have no depth at safety and while Landry hasn't been worth his salary, he's considerably better than anyone available off the street currently.

Uh.....no...he is a whiffing piece of roided out garbage. Let him sit on the bench or trade him.

That's a bit harsh.  The next time he jars a ball loose from a snot-bubbles hit, you might take that back.

God is Monday troll day another poster that comes from under his bridge to assess our players. I smell garbage don't think it is Landry though

I'm for cutting him if we can get one of the players that Irsay, Pagano, and Grigson discussed.  A young up and coming safety in exchange for Landry.  If we can't do that and we have to keep him I believe he still can make a good contribution.  I just want to see more out of him in the passing game.  If we don't feel he can do that then I'm okay with option A from above.

No I'm not a troll. I've been a Colts fan since 95 and I post under "Patrick" on the coltsfreaks board. I really don't understand the love you have for Landry. He's terrible in coverage and lately he tries to arm tackle too much.

Cutting him would be a big mistake right now but he should not be a starter go with the hot hand Brown has played really well and the D has had great chemistry the last few weeks . Don't mess with success

it wouldn't be good to cut someone you have been intertwined with in the locker room , on the field, & everywhere, your right, it's a chemistry thing.  players on the team would be shocked.  he is an extra strong football player and probably a good locker-room guy.  probably helps teammates with proper nutrition and supplements.  Not the best in pass coverage but get him out of the game in certain situations.

I don't think he has any trade value and why would we cut him. Very silly thread

I think Brown should remain the starter, but you guys are kidding yourself if you don't think Landry provides crazy depth.

I know, it's kind of funny.  People act like he is no better than a 6th or 7th round draft.  I think Landry should take Adams position and keep him for depth.  Nothing against Mike I think Landry has high potential if he is used more so he can use his strength and speed and not be in coverage.

I believe he played that position when he was at his pro bowl form.  He is a lot better blitzing and in short distance coverage.  People always complain how bad he is in the secondary and always get burnt deep.  I've saw Adams whiff quite a few tackles, but nobody mentions that, because he has been doing pretty well for the most part and was handed 2 int's on a silver platter.  If you think the Colts are just gonna get rid of Landry, please don't kid yourself!  I think Sergio and LaRon would play better together than Sergio and Mike...

Why wouldn't you want LaRon in?  I admit he has been struggling but give him some time when he gets back, he will be flying around making big hits!

Because Adams is playing lights out football and is one of the best coverage safeties in the NFL this year. Laron Landry should be coming off the bench and playing in certain packages when his suspension is over, he shouldn't be gifted his spot back

@MyColtsAccount: Mike Adams had also moved to 6th overall among Safeties, with a @PFF grade of 6.4 (2nd highest coverage grade at 7.4). Now ahead of Bethea.

@Colts_Comments: Per PFF, Mike Adams has the second highest coverage grade among Safeties so far this season (+5.7). #Colts #CINvsIND

Isn't hard to be ahead of Bethea in terms of coverage

Congratulations on being a top safety Mr. Mike

Landry is fast and strong and can lay the wood when he connects, but a lot of his high-light reel plays are due to the fact he had gotten out of position and had to use his speed to catch up.  Adams is playing very good football now, no way do we remove him from the lineup.  He is almost always in position and isn't letting anything behind the defense.  I'd take him being in position and missing an occasional tackle (I don't think it's been 'quite a few') than see Landry out of position and having to catch up and make a highlight reel play after a ton of yards are given up.

I trust the coaches to do what is best for the team.  Personally, I think Sergio is a more disciplined player and that his play as warranted him keeping the starting spot.  However, I'll not be disappointed if LaRon takes over -- I just hope he doesn't become a weak link in coverage and that if he is messing up the chemistry we've built over the past few games or getting beat in coverage that the coaches are willing to make the switch back to Sergio.

I didn't know that!  I knew he was playing well, but that's great.  We will just have to wait and see after next week how everything plays out.  Landry's suspension is up after the Steelers game.

I couldn't agree with you more!  Well said.  I know Landry does blow coverage occasionally and give up big plays.  We cant have that!  I do think he deserves his spot back, but if he doesn't perform well, he needs to be back on the bench, and canned in the offseason.  As of right now he I think he has potential but should be on thin ice!
