Chappell reports sprained AC joint for Richardson (MERGE)

Think people are reading too much into him not finishing a game equals he's completely brittle and broken.

He was pulled game 1, pretty sure he could have come back out if it was truly on the line. Steichen said as much.

Game 2 concussion which gets everyone.

The injury yesterday though is a major concern.

I expect it's season ending :(

Good point, but one qb was drafted because of his athletic ability and how the coaches could use that athleticism to their best advantage. Really handcuffs the team when u wince ever time this guy gets hit.

1 Month is 4 games he will be missing and I think that's great news we won't be making noise in the playoffs without AR getting the experience he needs.  Since he is out 4 games we might as well tank the season get a top 5 pick for next year.  But unless Minshew plays lights out and is the next brock purdy for the Colts then hey I'll take that too

Nah.

We beat 2 very good teams with Minchew

Why in the world would you tank??

Too bad he cant get TDs the way Richardson does.  I dont think sam has the talent to win games in the league

For once, I'd like to see Sam get the full support of the team and the coaching staff for 6 games.  This is an evaluation/development season for everyone, and we know what Minshew is.

Yeah, normally you go to your team doctor/specialist and they give you an initial opinion and then if they bring up surgery or more than a few weeks of rest they send you to one of the really well known specialist in that field and to get their opinion because they can afford it.  I also agree with you since it’s your rookie QB and it’s his throwing arm of course they are going to error on the side of caution and get him the best treatment they can before making any decisions.

Since the tweet said that AR was seeking multiple opinions, I assumed he was the driver of it.  If the tweet said that The Colts recommended that AR seek multiple (specialists) opinions, I would have assumed they were the driver of it.

I like the fact that the offensive line is doing what they are doing. With that backfield and the RPO option alive and well, a mobile QB, anything is possible

I don’t know. I think Sam E with this coach may not be a total screw job.

I agree. As I said in the past, our biggest problem last year was the horrible O line blocking, and coaching. Ryan was bad, Foles was bad, Sam was bad... and probably, if we had him then, Minshew would have been bad. If forced to play, Ill take Sam as our 3rd stringer. We would have a chance to win games. The pass protection and run blocking is still the key.

Sure, and its not like our receivers are any different from the seasons where we had no deep passing game.  Sam could probably dink and dunk as well as Minshew and AR (who is not the most accurate short thrower), and run better than Minshew.

Sam's head isn't as good as Minshew's, but experience would likely help that.

From what I've read, a Grade 3 AC Separation involves tearing of both the acromioclavicular (AC) and coracoclavicular (CC) ligaments (a Grade 2 involves tearing of one of these).

But, obviously, take that with a grain of salt.  I have no idea about the severity of AR's injury and I'm assuredly not a doctor.

If he tore the ligaments, he might need surgery, as that is his throwing shoulder. The ligaments should not be loose.

I have had shoulder injuries -- they are very painful. I wince as I think about them. But people recover from them. Richardson will too.

Why would AR want to risk his long term earnings potential by coming back 3 or 4 games too soon?  I'm not calling the Colts evil or anything, but I think AR has more of a vested interest in his long term health than an NFL team does.

for the same reason he wasn’t sliding or going down early. He wants to compete and wants to play. If he can do that without surgery he will.

Has any team been shown to have actually tanked a season.......I mean even if the top brass wanted it how do you go about convincing the players?!......"Hey guys, here's an idea...why don't you all just tank the season after 5 games and look terrible in the process therefore affecting your future chances financially so we can have high picks next year and hopefully replace a fair few of you while you all look worthless?......any takers?!"

You don’t convince the players you over rule the gm and make bad decisions on purpose. Like maybe firing a coach and installing a former player

Could be right, but any injury to the throwing shoulder is concerning no matter the severity.

Absolutely can agree there...concerning for sure.  Not a huge fan of Josina though, tends to try and be first and chicken little on things...

He sure did well against us in OT last week

Yes he did, I give him all the credit in the world. He is still a good QB and has had a very good career with good stats and a Ring. The Rams beat us fair and square. I just wish more people would give us the same credit for beating teams like at Baltimore and beating Tennessee. Instead, a certain few make up excuses for the other team to why we win, instead of giving us credit. We weren't favored in either of those games, Baltimore was a 6 point favorite and Tennessee was a 2.5 point favorite. So apparently Vegas felt like those teams were better than us. Vegas has made billions of dollars, so they what they are talking about.

Also, almost nobody gave us a chance to win at Baltimore on ESPN or the NFL Network. It was about 50/50 regarding Tennessee. Baltimore lost yesterday because they had 8 drop passes which was stressed heavily on Get UP this morning, Lamar had 3 passes for TD's that were dropped, clear drops. Baltimore is a playoff team easily. Tennessee was coming off a blowout win over Cincy, Tennessee isn't as good as they were a couple years ago but a team that is still above average at worse.

Last night she reported he would get multiple opinions no matter what. This isn’t new need news.

If you look at QB injuries most happen in the pocket.

Pocket QBs don’t get the pounding running QBs do.

And so far I don’t believe any of Anthony’s injuries came in the pocket.  If it is true that most QBs injuries are in the pocket iits because the great super majority of the time is spent in the pocket.

Go look at the injuries. I saw. Tweet last week and every one was a pocket QB.  It was a list of QB injuries. Not just pocket passsers.  Top five was all pocket passsers.

I believe this is true. I had an analyst look into this and he found this to be true. This was a couple of years ago; so, I don't have the link. If you find it please post it.

This is what I have heard too.

Most can just "pop" their shoulder right back in.  If they work desk jobs, they can get away with it.

But for a football player, if it is loose, it is more likely to "pop back out" again.

Yes, that's right. Athletes especially one that uses his arm to play cannot have loose ligaments. And that is his throwing shoulder.

It does not sound like Richardson had a dislocation (shoulder popping out). I may be wrong.

I found an article but it is long. It goes in depth about injuries. The author is a doctor in physical therapy and he said shoulder injuries are the most prevalent. I did not realize that. Anyway, here is the article.

I thought that with his size that he would be more durable but, you never know, it could be because of his lack of time playing in college, he was used to being a bull sort of speak and has not learned how to protect himself, how to fall or slide. I think that is and art in itself to survive in the NFL to stay heathy. I mean look at Brees, Brady, Peyton, and a lot of others that had long careers. I don't know if that is something that is instinct or can be taught.

Don't see the point in watching anymore. While I acknowledged Minshew looked good yesterday, there's only two reasons to watch him for the next month or more if you're a fan. 1.) If you think he has a chance to be our starting QB one day over Richardson or 2.) You want to help win enough games with him to make the playoffs and that's all you're rooting for with him until Richardson returns later in the year.

This goes back to the situation where now, instead of Richardson's development, the only thing I really care about is the win now with Minshew. There's other player development, but it'll be stunted because the offense won't be as explosive. The only selling point is if we win, it may help us make the playoffs down the road when we get Richardson back.

Feel bad for Richardson, feel bad for Steichen and Ballard for having to put up with this garbage, bad luck. I feel bad for all the fans who paid good money to see these games that have to go through this again. I don't care if Minshew is a solid, high-end backup. What's the point in investing in watching 4 or more games with him as the starting QB when he's not the long-term starter, and he may not even be on this team past this year? The only reason to care is to win for the long-term. It's not good enough of a reason for me.

    • I predict all of the players listed as questionable will play.  The Steelers offense is meh.
    • The problem with hiring a defensive guy and tasking him with building that offensive support system is that most of them just don’t have it, and they’re not really capable of building it. There aren’t enough Tom Moore types out there to help institute that long-term knowledgeable stability.    We got lucky with Pagano and Luck having Arians in the building, and largely being the head coach for the majority of Luck’s rookie season. But watching Pagano flail to fill an offensive staff post-Arians was painful, and most of the defensive head coaches struggle in the exact same way. It’s out of their specialty and out of their comfort zone and it just makes it harder than it needs to be on everyone involved.    The most advantageous way to hire a defensive HC is with an already established QB and system that he can just come in and not have to build from the ground up.
    • You should double check. I just did. Womack started both games, with Jaylon Johnson on the other side, and Kenny Moore at nickel.    Against the Packers, Womack got 20 snaps, Flowers got 19. Against the Bears, Womack got 28 snaps, Flowers got 41 (and he left before the game ended, so maybe he would have gotten more). Maybe Flowers was on his way to taking Womack's spot in the lineup, but Womack was on the field as a starter in both games.
    • Game on the line, inconsistent passer at QB, and the OL is the strength of the team. Everyone in the world knew that the first priority was to stop JT. And they couldn't.    I don't know what's with this myth that there's something deficient about JT as a RB. It's nonsense.
    • I think he's probably only using 25% of his playbook so far, for various reasons. Some of that is intentional, as they work in some concepts with a young QB and a young-ish supporting cast.   Another part of it is that the Colts game script has been heavily skewed, especially in the first two games, so the gameplan had to be reduced as the game went along. The offense couldn't stay on the field, and the defense couldn't get off of it. It was better against the Bears, but their offense still ran 30 more plays than ours. Total, our offense has run 87 fewer plays than our opponents. Teams usually script their first 15 offensive plays, and I wonder if the Colts have gotten through that opening script in any of the first three games. So I think there are some things that they'd like to have run, but so far they have not been able to get to them.   I don't think it's a binary 'do we call winning plays, or do we call plays to develop the QB' consideration. I don't necessarily agree that those priorities have to compete with one another, but it does require a balance to do them both justice. I don't think it does this team any good, short term or long term, to restrict Richardson to 15 passing attempts/game, or to use him as an option QB like this is the Navy team, even if they felt like that could be a way to win some games. I also don't think they should coach him as if every game is "winner take all," and have him lay his body on the line or try to drop back 50 times a game.    And we have to blame Richardson and the WRs to a certain extent. There have been a lot of missed throws, drops, and turnovers. Those plays have stalled or ended several possessions, and that's not on the play calling.
