How will the D stop Mixon and Green?

Not to mention Eifert, Bernard and Ross.

I think the O will be good enough, but I’ve yet to see how we’re going to stop the run.  Cincy has some issues on the Oline, hopefully we can get to Dalton.

Anyone else concerned that we’ll get run over all season?

Yes.  We need a run-stuffing DT that can still create pressure from the interior.

A guy like Hankins?

I hope I’m way off base, but I just see the D on the field for extended drives, trying not to ‘break’ but eventually getting worn down as the game goes on.

I have a feeling he has an aversion to the 4-3. Left NY as soon as he could and left as soon as we transitioned. Wouldn’t surprise me if he asked to released.

We need LBs that can play the run effectively. We’ll see if we have any.

I have faith in our run game next week. The Bengals offensive line is not great and Joe Mixon has not looked good at all in preseason or at any time last year.

The Red Rifle is going to tear us apart though. I can see AJ having 175-200 yards receiving, John Ross beating us deep at least once, and Eifert having 2 touchdowns.

Seriously,..Not all season.  We may have issues the first couple weeks until we figure out how to tackle without the 'helmet police' blowing whistles.  A big issue is we're teaching hamstring tackle to avoid the helmet rule, but you cannot bring a person to a dead stop by hamstring tackling...they always fall forward.  If a tackler can use the shoulder pad without a 'leading with the helmet' call then we'd be better at stopping the run.

Geathers will be in the box most of the time with Hooker playing single high.  That's my thoughts

Tackling is going to be an issue for the entire league, refs included.

Single high works if your corners can play and you can put enough pressure on the QB to force quick decisions.   It remains to be seen if we have any of that.

I like the youth and speed of the LBs, I hope they’re quick learners.

I actually like our corners.  I think the top 4 all have size, speed, ball skills, to play top notch football.  What i don't have faith in is zone defense.  I love the 4-3...but still rather see more man-man, press D on a regular basis.

Is Mixon the guy who ko'd a girl? Didn't we play him once? I don't remember him being any good.

Green I'm worried about.

Would be a great time to have Vontae around... I'm sure folks remember his death shot... Lol

yeah, that was the butt of my joke in my first comment, but i guess not many people remember that...lol

If everyone remembers the Dungy era, this defense is ideally designed to play with the lead....basically, meaning it is designed to defend a pass heavy offense. The edge guys go to work and the zone keeps the receivers underneath (in theory).

Our defense needs to find a way to get us to 3rd and 5+....I don't see us winning many 3rd and short scenarios.

Ok, let's get something straight.  If you are really worried because of what you saw in a PRESEASON game,.....

Remember...there was no scheme...base plays only.  What we did see is pretty decent tackling compared to what we've had the last few years, Blazing speed at every level of the defense, and a lb'er who can actually COVER someone.  The only drawback that worries me from the preseason is 2 things, so much zone defense, and the front 7 not being disciplined in their run gaps.. The first is ok if we get consistent pressure, the 2nd is coachable.

It’s going to be a close game. We are not going to steamroll the Bengals.

We have a young defense. Hooker showed flashes and has pro bowl potential . The hype and legend of Geathers is lost on me.

People want him him to be Bob Sanders, he’s not. He’s good and he is injury prone which is what he and Sanders have in common.

I hope I'm wrong about Geathers and I hope we do steamroll the Bengals.  Go Colts!!!!

Eifert will break after the first tackle he takes.

Ross hasn't shown anything.

Bernard runs hot and cold.

Dalton is not great........

I’ve come to terms that our defense will suck this year. Partially because they are so young, but also because they lack a pass rush. Hopefully we go D heavy next draft where it’s strong.

The only place they have to go from last year is up.

Omg...if this board is seriously worried we can’t stop a non-playoff caliber possibly last place in their division team I can’t wait for the rest of this season!

And last year we were going to roll the Rams, even without Luck, because Goff was a bust and they were a last place team.

I’m not sure what anyone here has seen from the defense to think they can stop anyone.  And if people here think Mixon isn’t any good, it’s not worth discussing it.

    • Yes, I know. The Stanford teams  when Hogan was the starting QB were full of top recruits on offense and defense. It was so much fun being a fan then. I'm not as big a fan of Stanford as you are. Being on the East Coast makes it hard to follow them as much as I used to.   Overall, I am becoming less and less interested in sports. For over 20 years, I used to listen to sports radio whenever I had free time.  I used to follow tennis, golf, baseball, college basketball, a little NBA and NHL as well as NFL and college football. I once went to 20+ baseball games in a year.  The only sport I still follow religiously now is NFL football. I try to follow my favorite baseball team, the Mets, but not enough. I attribute my loss of interest to there being too much change and movement of players, coaches, teams, conferences, etc. Stanford is now part of the ACC! My goodness! (Shaking my head) I don't like all these changes in conferences.   I was a big fan of Ted Leyland, Stanford's former athletic director many years ago. It saddened me when Leyland left Stanford to go to the University of Pacific which was his alma mater. I see he retired. He hired Buddy Teevens who died last year. Back in those days, I followed Stanford football a lot more closely. They were not great years but I loved rooting for players who also excelled in the classroom.   TL;DR 😉
    • Oh I think they are ready. They are right in the thick of it. Well educated and smart women. They are more in tune with the Indianapolis Colts than all of the new ownership in the league is with their respective franchises. I'm not concerned in the least with these ladies taking over moving forward. I think it's a great thing and speaks to the stability that the organization is preaching and looking to build.
    • I'm out this year. I'm going to be focusing on my bestballs and daily fantasy. I already have $400 invested and am making a concentrated effort this year to win some money.
