Maggitt was PFFs top graded rookie Edge last week

Maggit played very well I thought after going back and watching the game, McGill, Ridgeway, Okine of course. Also I think Ron Thompson flashed a few times with a couple QB Hurries

All of which I expect will make the team

If he can stay healthy I see big things for the kid but that's a BIG if. You don't have a 10+ sack season in the sec being mediocre. Favorite play was when he trucked the center at the end of the game. He has some nastiness in his game

PFF has to be taken with a grain of salt obviously,  but he had a decent first game and has passed the eye test so far. I would love to see him grow into a pass rushing threat for us, but for now I'm tempering expectations.  It's the first preseason game so I'm not ready to declare him the solution to our pass rush issues.

Plus rookie pass rushers (even top picks) rarely put up huge sack numbers year one, so to expect an UDFA rookie to be a big contributor is a lot to ask. If he gets 4 sacks this year I'd be pumped.

(If) he makes the team, he should/probably would be used pretty sparingly. He's got the talent for sure, but the injury problems and the fact that he's an undrafted rookie free agent (though that's probably because of the first reason), makes me doubt that Chuck, Ted and Co would throw him to the wolves so soon. But if he shows he's valuable and can reach his potential (because he has a lot of it), I can see him being a huge part of the team's pass rush and defense in general, in one or two years.

He's a better football player than Jonathan Newsome.  Honestly all these young pass rushers are and I've been saying that the whole time.   I do expect Curt to make the team as long as he's not on IR before the preseason ends.

This UDFA class the Colts have right now could go a long way in redeeming Grigson of some of his past miscues. I thought the draft itself was a pretty decent haul, but these UDFAs are turning heads, which is pretty awesome IMO.

I agree and if this past game is any indication, this draft class could rival 2012.

Yes there's a long way to go but it's very promising.

HMMMM.  I guess I may be one who thought his play in no way terrific.  There must not have been many other Edge rookies.

I aw that he is working his tail off, but he has a real problem with big tackles.  He looked like a cornerback a couple of times.  Manhandled.  I still like him because he works very hard to get in the backfield.  He shows at 238 but looked small to me.  Good luck to him.

Funny how everyone sees the same thing differently.  He looked just as big as Walden to me.

He is plenty big enough. Met him at TC. People worry about size way to much at OLB. Technique and instincts are much more important than size

I agree.  He looked was mall against the RT.

Still 238.  Heck I weigh 222. :)

Lets not get carried away though Gavin.  One preseason game buddy.  He DID have issues with that weight in that game.

Don't forget that both Mathis and Freeney had the same things said about them. Not saying he's anywhere near that caliber but size isn't everything

He didn't get a lot of snaps, but he caught my eye as soon as he came in. I just liked how much energy he had. He played like the happiest guy on the field. That appealed to my core, so I gave him a tip of my hat!

Yeah he did play with a lot of energy which I liked

Yeah had a hip issue in college that sidelined him for awhile. Fully healthy he was probably trending towards behind a 3rd round pick, possibly higher.

Just curious. Should we take your opinion, that we should take PFF with a grain of salt, with a grain of salt?

    • Come on now…  Lamar Jackson is a two time NFL MVP.   Justin Fields is entering his 4th season, and he wasn’t terrible with Chicago.    Anthony Richardson started 4 games for the Colts.  He’s thrown just 84 total passes.   We’re all pulling for the kid to succeed,  but he’s got a lot to prove before  anyone can credibly say AR is better than Fields or Jackson.    There are plenty of questions to be asked and the answers wont come until early next year.    We all could be having an entirely different conversation next off-season.
    • People saying he was a run first QB never watched his college tape. I won't lead the witness, but you can make some basic assumptions as to why people believed that.   IMO, his actual football problems coming into the league were:   - bad footwork. Made him have some inconsistent, wild throws at times. - not that great at making easy, short passes. The layups, essentially.     I'd say in the short sample we saw last year, that the latter issue he dramatically improved on. For the former, there were still some erratic throws (when he missed, he really missed), but he also showed progress there a s well (his completion percentage in the NFL was 59.5 vs 53.7 in his one year starting at college. It's usually the opposite trend for most rookies)   I'm absolutely on board on AR becoming a franchise QB, the only issue he has is proving he can stay healthy. I also don't think calling out two minor injuries vs one major injury is enough to call injury prone, but he has to prove it all the same.
    • He can’t as you pointed out those contracts are more or less slotted.
    • No , he is not holding out for first round money. Those days are long gone.
    • Part of me wishes AD gets 88. I like what Dallas does with their 88.
