Yes hope for the best. For me this is deffinately a downgrade at GM. But, Polian has not been at his best recently, Chris Polian was not the GM of the future. I'm glad Irsay has made a decision to bring in a pro (as opposed to managing the team himself like he used to).

I don't really see it as a down grade for Chris Polian. And our personnel choices have had me scratching my head for while. I don't know much about Grigson, but the Eagles were loaded with talented (even though they didn't perform up to their potential), which really impressed me considering they got all of these guys under the salary cap. If he had anything to do with that, I am hoping he can work some magic with our cap.

I don't know what to think about it but I question why Irsay wanted someone with no GM experience? How is no experience a plus?

Well we know he didn't have the experience of Polian but look where that took us. If he had left his son out of the picture things might have been different but we will never know. I for one also didn't like the way Polian treated fans with his attitude towards them. I personally think Polian was a great GM but I think it's time for him to retire and enjoy the rest of his life and let Chris find his own job. JMO of course but everyone has to start somewhere and it sounds like Ryan has worked his way up and not because of family ties. Wishing him nothing but the best. I hope this is a pleasant surprise for all the players and assocaites and fans as well.

Thanks Maureen for posting the link I liked the interview. Now we need to stand behind the guy and give him our support and he will be okay. Will he make some mistakes who doesn't at times but you learn from them and move on and admit that you made a mistake and don't hide it under the rug and I'm sure that others know who I'm talking about. :neener: Welcome aboard Ryan and good to have you here. :highfive:

You are welcome and I'm with you. Welcome Ryan!

i wonder if the fact that colt.com is referring to him as 'general manager' & not 'president of football' operations means anything

Maybe that means that Irsay will have more say in the organization and not let Ryan have as much power as Polian felt he had. Who knows but I am excited and hope he does well. I guess time will tell.

His enthusiam for coming home is exactly what I wanted to hear. Seems like a nice guy. Otherwise he comes across a young and nervous ex-jock, rather than an experienced front office executive.

I have a good first impression. He's got a big task and national spotlight on him

I wish him well!!!!!!!!!

Excited for the hire. He's coming home to our wonderful state. He's a Hoosier by birth, Boiler by education. Solid credentials. He's young but Irsay is probably looking at this young man being with our team for a long long time.

I'm mildy concerned that he may favor the scrambling QB route and consider Griffin (refuse the moniker name). We're rebuilding. The first thing he needs to commit on is drafting Luck.

I agree if Polian wasn't fired, his son would've been forced on the Colts. Atleast Irsay picked his own guy instead of letting Polian act like he could just promote his son from nothing.

Im glad this guy has been promoted within the Eagles because of merit. Im just surprised he didn't hire someone with some GM experience. BP had plenty of experience coming in and I kinda expected a similar hire.

Good luck to Grigson.

You know, considering the Colts injuries, the Eagles season was a lot worst. Just a complete abomination. Are you really sure that they have "that" much talent? And I'm sure that their salary cap "magic" has a lot to do with all of their bigger named players besides Vick (and before the free agent signings) being on their first contracts. So where the Colts have solid vets that they've drafted and resigned, the Eagles had glaring holes that they had to overpay in free agency to fill. It's entirely a win now mentality with a short window, and they aren't winning. They have an enormous financial commitment to a lousy QB who is undersized, relies too much on his athleticism, and at 31 could lose his edge on any moment. They have a "star" wide receiver who they may not even want to resign because he is a locker room cancer and scared of getting tackled. There isn't a lot of magic there in my opinion. I'm just hoping that Griggson had nothing to do with most of the questionable decisions.

Let's not ,Jackson is a me 1st guy and Collie can't stay healthy.

Jackson would give us that deep threat and return specialist. We have really never had a return man. Whoever the QB is would love the field position instead of starting at the 20 or inside of it

And excuse me but Collie has 3 seasons, 16-9-16 games played. Sounds to me like last year was his worst with multiple concussions. 7 games missed out of 48 is not staying healthy?

We all know Grigson was a behind the scenes guy in Philly and no one knows his true talent as a GM. All I know is I trusted Jim Irsay to hire the best guy fit for this organization's needs, and I do believe he has done so. I know everyone is saying the Eagles "imploded" last year, but you can't blame that on the talent evaluators. The Eagles brought in great talent last year, no doubt (Babin, Rodgers-Cromartie, Asomugha). An 8-8 record wasn't the front office's fault because they did their job in finding quality guys for the job. Coaching wasn't great and the team chemistry was terrible, and it showed.

Not that he's done much, but right now I have faith in Grigson. Irsay wants to win. I'm sure he brought in a guy that will help in doing that.

Please NO. Why would you want that jerk on your team?

He is a jerk and has an attitude but I don't think that will hurt the team really. We need some attitude and fire. Garcon seems to be the cockiest guy we have. I do guess there's a difference between cocky and a jerk but at the right price (basically whatever Wayne makes) I think he would be a nice player

The ink on Grigson’s contract isn’t even dry yet and he is already being criticized. Let’s give the guy a chance and actually judge him based on his results. He was not responsible for drafts or the conduct of the draft in Philly. Let’s get that straight. He must have some good skills if he emerged as the top pick from among at least seven good candidates for our GM position. Also, let’s not forget we gave a previous twice fired (now three times) fired GM years before anyone dared say nary a bad word about him.

He's handling the presser well. I think he'll be good with the fans within his role, and seems to want to settle in and spend time evaluating things before pulling any triggers. Sounds like a few more days before we hear anything about the coaching situation.

People need to get the thought of trading with the Browns in order to take RG3 with the 4th pick out of their heads. Say the Colts do make that trade with their eye on RG3. Luck will go # 1 and that leaves several QB-needy teams with the opportunity to draft RG3 at either # 2 or # 3. And then the Colts are left with nothing.

nothing? the pick evaporates if we dont get RGIII??

IFF the colts keep manning and make a three year run at a legacy with him, then a qb is not the best way to go. counter intuitive but that bama RB would be the best quick option for a win now scenario as far as offense-- a receiver takes too long to learn the system. a stud back would be biggest bang for the buck.

or maybe a corner...

the forum is about speculation, not telling anyone to get thoughts out of their heads.

think on the brightside, he still has Irsay to help him make decisions.

He has a good resume of taking the organizations to 3 Super Bowls. Didnt win them because they were all lost to the Patriots and another team.

He was also responsible for bringing in McCoy and DeSean Jackson.

I like Austin, but he is one hit away from being done, so you can't just Garcon walk.

Let's remember one thing - us as fans have no idea if he'll do a good job or not. Jim Irsay sat down with him in an interview and decided from that, he was more appealing than other people. With that in mind, let's back the decision and hope it'll come good :)

Lots of "this."

I trust Jim Irsay. Every great man got his start somewhere. Until Grigson gives me reason to doubt him, as far as I'm concerned it was a great hire.

Grigson's comment about putting our egos aside and doing what's best for the organization spoke volumes to me. I think in some ways Irsay got tired of the ego and control issues inherent in Polian.(and not being able to admit when he was wrong) I think it's a good hire but I will reserve judgement until down the road a bit. I will say this I like the guy already and I can't say that about Polian.

I watched the Grigson press conference and saw a guy who appears to know what he is doing. He refused to get specific about individual decisions that he has to make and clearly showed that he has the ability to handle the press. He has a limited resume, but remember Bill Polian had a limited resume when he became the GM for Buffalo.

We need to let this play out and have someone who understand what he is doing make decisions and then wait until we see the results of the decisions before we either praise them or be critical of them.

Have followed the press conference. Tell me, you native speakers: Did you also notice that Ryan Grigson was nervous and seemed a bit uncomfortable?

Of coarse he's nervous a bit. He isn't used to doing the presser type of thing. He still came off well and likable to me.

I think Irsay hit a home run with this choice! I loved this guy's press conference. You can tell that he eats, breathes, and sleeps this stuff. I spend a lot of time running through draft picks and doing research. I try to find film clips of prospects and really concentrate on how well they play the game, not just their 40-times, or bench press reps. Look at their college stats. What categories did they lead their teams, their conferences, or the nation. I'd love to do this for a living. You can tell Grigson never gets tired of talking and thinking about football and talent eveluation. It's his passion. He's young and eager to prove his worth. I look for him to keep Caldwell as HC, but to possibly make some more coaching staff changes. The Colts players continued to play hard for Caldwell despite having every opportunity to throw in the towel. IMHO that saves Caldwell's job.

I certainly appreciated his passion, enthusiasm, humility, the indications that he is not the type of person to fire people left and right just to protect his turf, and his story about getting his start in player evaluations - voluntarily - when he was in college. There is a lot to like there.

Less enthusiastic about the insinuation that he is a salary cap novice (do we have an expert or two in house I wonder?), and his comments about film study and talent being the be all and end all (what little things should be ignored - character issues?). He is clearly extremely raw.

I was amused in a way because the sequence of events reminded me of watching my former employer hiring a new manager after we had had some problems. It was abundantly clear afterwards that in those closed door interviews the owner had complained about every perceived flaw of the old manager, and - not having anything else to go on - those were the things that the new manager was going to focus on "fixing". He was concerned with nothing besides placating the guy who just hired him, he was scared to impose a vision of his own - even if he "knew" it was right, having seen what happened to the last guy. Thats a far cry from where we just were - with a manager who knows more about the business than the owner could ever dream of. As others have said, this appears to be about Irsay taking his team back. He as much as said that Griggson's job is to evaluate talent PERIOD - I doubt that he has much say in who coaches for example. I'm exited by the changes, but nervous as anything. Lets hope that Jim has learned something in the past 14 years, and doesn't now think that he has the skills to micromanage all football operations. We learned the hard way that he most certainly does not.

    • WalterFootball  assigned a team draft grade of A to four NFL teams - Colts Lions,Bengals, and Ravens. Eagles receive an A+ grade.   "I love what the Colts did in the 2024 NFL Draft. They helped Richardson and also improved their pass rushing to help combat the many other talented quarterbacks in the AFC. Only two of their picks scored worse than a B-, but they were late-round selections."   ADC South: Titans C+, Texans B, and Jaguars C-.   Latu, Tanor Bartolini, and Jaylon Simpson received A+ grades
    • I thought it was a good interview but kind of odd regarding his response to AD. He said he got lucky with the AD pick but yet he traded back and he was still sitting there for them to pick at 52. He must have felt comfortable that he was still going to be there at 52  if he was  indeed their  pick in the 2nd. Makes one wonder  how come teams passed on this guy and if the Colts wouldn't have pulled the trigger how far would he have fallen? Love the pick with all that being said. I see this guy measurables and the game tape and he could be elite. I would contend that if his production would have matched his skill  set, you would have been talking about his guy in the same conversation with Nabors and Harrison. The tape is outstanding and he is an impressive athlete.  His post draft interviews were interesting in terms of his personality.
    • Agreed. I think as a draft, it is going go down as unremarkable. I think the OT's will thrive at the next level but not sure bout the other positions. Even our draft pick at #15. For the best rush end to make it to 15  kind of says something.   High  rated rush ends are     top 5 pick as they are so highly coveted.  I could see the wrs and a couple of OTs picked before our guy. However, teams didnt pull the trigger on Latua. Still love the pick
    • I think Pierce and AD will be on the field  together more  than people think. If nothing else, they are going to clear out the safeties for AD and JT. Have them running deep routes and the inside will be open for Pittman and for JT to run crazy once he gets to the 2nd level. AR can take off for some runs and it is going to force the safeties to have to play up and then boom!!
    • Mannings are playing the long game. When he is ready, he will start. These qbs are coming out to fast and not enough playing time in college.  He will probably play 4 years of college and be the number 1 pick when he comes out.
