If they plan on playing him week one, I think it'd be smart for him to get a few live action snaps in preseason. See how he feels, knock some rust off, etc.

Yes, of course he's served his suspension. They can't punish you extra for getting injured during the suspension.

Big boost for the defense. Mathis is one of those players that commands attention from the oppositions OC. We only have one other player like that on the defense - Vontae Davis. This is huge. Even if he only gets 10 sacks this reg. season, it'll still be an upgrade.
