ColtsLegacy
Wow, Junior Sylvestre adding 20 lbs is a pleasant surprise. He was an extremely athletic 220 in college and a lot I read on him said he may have maxed out his frame. If he's kept the athleticism with the added weight he could be a sleeper at LB.Also, nice to see Hilton is getting * diesel. Also, also, didn't Adongo add like 15 lbs last offseason? Defjamz26
Depending on how they play Anderson he may need another 10-15 pounds. 300 is light for a base 3-4 DE. But Stanford lineman are always light but they're quicker. Parry is a smaller guy so In okay with him at 310.Clayton Geathers could start at SS. He's already at 220 which is ideal. Plus he's been turning heads at camp and OTAs from the stories I've heard. I would like to see Quarles heavier though. 312 isn't good enough for him IMO. 325 is more suitable given his skill set. Geathers weighed in at 215. I think Quarles at 312 is completely fine. He's not playing the Nose. 325 is not needed to playing on the flank of the nose. Gaining 16 pounds in one year is good weight. I suspect Anderson is pretty close to maxing out. He tried higher weight at Stanford and didn't always like it. And I was surprised, but pleased to see that Langford actually lost 8 pounds from 313 to 305.... In a e-mail to Kevin Bowen of Colts.com he responded that we'd see a new approach to weight.... and I think we're seeing it.... a little smaller than the past few years is better.... I believe it was said that he needed to put some weight on in order to be a legit NFL tackle. Well he's put the weight on. Hopefully it's muscle. Now hopefully we'll get to see if this guy can play or not. Those 2 stood out to me, along with Adongo, Lankford, Hoover, Quarles and Langford. While Lankford is a longshot to make the team, he is a blazer and I thought he might have some potential to be a return man, but was worried about his size. If he can keep him speed and quickness with 13 pounds on his frame, I won't be shocked to see him turn a lot of heads come training camp. With AJ, TY, Dorsett, Moncrief and Carter (and I guess Whalen), it will be tough to make the team as a WR, but we did bring Cribbs on last year just to be a return man, so I'm interested to see what happens with Lankford. Adongo gained a lot of weight in his first year. Not saying that is the reason for his injury, but it can be tough to stay healthy adding that much weight in such little time. I'm kind of glad he is down a bit. I have no clue what to expect from him this year -- a year off last year to learn the game more and get healthy might have done him very well. He is a physical freak, who is only about 2 years into knowing the game of football. I think he's doubtful to make the 53, but find his loss encouraging. Quarles weight gain is good, I think. Hoover is a guy I had as an outside shot to make the 53 last year before we converted him to OL. I think the kid is a hard worker with NFL potential, so hopefully he can hold that weight and play at it -- I could see him being a backup at G and T. Langford sounds like he's been turning heads so far -- I thought he was a good talent in St. Louis and the loss of 8 lbs might make him more of a pass rush threat, which would be great for our DL. NewEra
4-5 pound weight shifts are nothing. You can gain 4-5 pounds in a day with water and food alone. Also depending on time of day when you weight yourself also. I do like the added weight though as long as it's solid. But I wouldn't sacrifice speed and explosiveness for weight. Have to find that sweet spot.
throwing BBZ
I still laugh at Mathis being listed at 6'2.... It is truly humorous that is what he measured at his pro day.
rock8591
Good news to hear - - - Arthur Jones back to his natural playing weight of 315-320 or soHugh Thornton slims down to 325 or soChapman getting down to 335 isn't saying a whole lot just yet...Langford down to
rock8591
Depending on how they play Anderson he may need another 10-15 pounds. 300 is light for a base 3-4 DE. But Stanford lineman are always light but they're quicker. Parry is a smaller guy so In okay with him at 310.Clayton Geathers could start at SS. He's already at 220 which is ideal. Plus he's been turning heads at camp and OTAs from the stories I've heard.I would like to see Quarles heavier though. 312 isn't good enough for him IMO. 325 is more suitable given his skill set. 300 not light at all for a 3-4 DE, it's pretty much the average. Justin Smith and Cameron Jordan are both around 285 and 287. We can say "they play a 1-gap 3-4", but teams that play a 2-gap defense have players that are very similar. e.g. Fletcher Cox - 6'4'' 300Cedric Thornton - 6'4'' 309Cameron Hayward - 6'5'' 288Darnell Dockett - 6'4'' 290Ray McDonald - 6'3'' 290Corey Liuget - 6'2'' 300Arthur Jones - 6'3'' 320Akiem Hicks - 6'5'' 324Sheldon Richardson - 6'3'' 294Muhammed Wilkerson - 6'4'' 315Mike Daniels - 6'0'' 305Calais Campbell - 6'8'' 300JJ Watt - 6'5'' 289 Nobody's gonna look at Henry Anderson's 6'6'' 300 lbs, with their gut reaction being "he's undersized". I had no idea. Thanks for the info though. I guess because Cory Redding always played at 320+, I figured that's how it would be for most ends. bestQBever
Jones is gonna be a beast. Thank god he lost that weight. There's a difference between being big and being fat.

Problem is your list combines 1-gap and 2-gap 3-4 DEs and the prototype for each is not the same. That's why you see several guys on your list in that 280-300 range (1-gap guys) and others in the 300-320 range (2-gap guys).
Jhaze55
Thornton lost a few. Maybe he'll stay more conditioned? It seems as games went on last season he got more and more tired.

Coffeedrinker also thinks Thornton's problem is conditioning. Hopefully as the guys get more and more conditioned during camp, Thornton, Jones, Hughes, Chapman, Kerr and all these other big guys will be able to play even better up front. BleedBlu8792
So I'm not the only one who first thought of this? He's nothing more than 6'0". I've been next to Mathis a couple times, and I'm 6'3. 6'0 is about the tallest I would put him at.
