Cut Hasselbeck?

Cutting our backup QB Matt Hasselbeck would save us 2.25 million dollars. Would this be a smart idea? Is Harnish a good enough backup to Luck? 

 

I'm not sure we should cut Hasselbeck but honestly i could see it happening, would allow us more flexibility on the open market.

No. I've never seen Harnish play other than in preseason so I'd rather keep Hasselbeck until he retires.

I know Hassleback isn't on the field much, but I like having him around.  He has that mentor presence that's very valuable.

Depends where you want to spend that money I guess.

 

I think we have one of the better back up QBs in the league so I'd be very hesitant before I cut him. If it means freeing up the extra cash needed to sign a key starter then I'd be down. I don't see that situation arising any time soon though.

No.  Of course we'd be in trouble if Andrew went down, but IMO, we could still contend with Hasselbeck.  With Harnish, no chance.

Ehhh ....that roster in 2011 couldn't have produced more than 5-6 wins even with a good back up. Not sure last year's team would have won too many games with Hassleback at QB. Now this year could be a different story as the roster should be pretty solid up and down.

Hasselbeck led a team to a SB. Harnish has victories over the likes of the Leo Lions and Central Community College of Everytown. 

 

I kidd, but seriously, Hasselbeck is an asset given the importance of the position.

What he brings from a mentor standpoint is crucial, not only for Luck, but most of our younger guys.

I believe Rogers credited Hasselbeck with helping him a lot with the playbook and being a professional.

You do realize if we done that(and we won't) but even if they did, they would have to be replaced too. Who ya gonna replace them with? They would have to be cheap and then we would be worse off than before. There is no chance of this happening. We're a playoff team and we need an experienced backup.

It doesn't matter how much the Colts would save.

 

None of them are being cut.      They'll be back in 2014.

 

After that is another question,  but this year,  they'll be back.

I don't think it is worth to keep a backup for 2.2 mil.  That's a lot of money.

May be recently released  Brandon Weeden can be brought in to replace Hasselbeck IMO.

Sure he sucks as a starter but he is well known to Chuzinski and may just be fine as a capable backup.

Plus he won't cost much and is much younger. It will be a low risk investment for the Colts.

Dumb, for two reasons.  One, Harnish, the would be backup, has never played in a NFL regular season game.  Two, Hasselbeck is a great mentor for Luck.  If we keep Hasselbeck, I think that Andrew Luck will get better than he would if we cut Hasselbeck.

Nah, Hasselbeck is more of an asset than I think we give him credit for.

Not only is Hasselbeck still a capable QB (who can play if ever needed), but he provides outstanding insight for Luck.
