Why does ESPN hate us!?

This may seem silly, but i was just watching SportsCenter and they were about to do a segment on the final AFC playoff spot. In the open for it they showed highlights of all the other AFC playoff teams that were already in besides us! And the Chiefs highlight was Charles' TD run against us last week! Man its like they go out of their way to disrespect us or write us off. I know its not a big deal but COME ON MAN!

They don't "hate us" at all.....    not even a little bit.

You've got some editor who is cutting the hi-lites....   sometimes with a producer, sometimes without.

Charles plays for KC...  the Chiefs are going to the playoffs.    So, they used a nice play that they likely had a very good camera angle on....

Don't read too much into stuff like that....   really....   it'll drive you crazy if you over-think things....

No one's trying to mess with Indy.....   they liked us when Peyton was here....   now they like us with Andrew....

No worries....     it's all good!

And I say that as someone with 30 years in media,  including 25 in TV News....

Really......    we're good!

I honestly believe that the big media channels don't cover us as much because we don't advertise. The week leading up to the Manning game was crazy because of the whole Jim Irsay thing, but we beat Peyton and that was all she wrote. We don't have Brandon Browner getting indefinitely suspended for PEDs, no Richie Incognito giving rookies swirlies in the locker room, etc. We focus on football and just keep our eyes forward. Honestly one of the most enticing things about being a fan of this ballclub is that we never let outside circumstances get to us.

Let them "hate" and/or "disrespect" us. We were the first of 12 teams with hats and a banner for the stadium while everybody else was getting love on ESPN. We focus on what we need to.

They don't have the airtime between Tony Romo and Mike Shanahan to give the Colts coverage.

I am okay with being overlooked by ESPN, the colts can just sneak in and win the Super Bowl while ESPN talks about who will be the new coach of the Jets next year and how RGIII is still the best qb out of last years draft class even though he got benched.

Espn is just the new MTV of sports.  I could care less what they do or don't talk about.

They focus more on teams that are more likely to make a run in the playoffs.  Based on the way the Colts have dropped a few stinkers, they don't know if the team is seriously a contender or not, and in their estimation definitely not.  Collinsworth and many others have made their picks AWAY from the Colts in the last two weeks. I realize Collinsworth is not with ESPN but many have grabbed his coattails. I can't say I blame them, but I would like to have the real Colts please stand up.  Who are we?  Not really sure but I hope we are not the team that played the Rams, Cardinals, & Bengals.

I look at ESPN like a big fraternity and most of the members don't like us or are not interested. It almost like they treat the Colts like they are not relevant and have a losing record. They would rather talk about the Redskins.

Exactly! Its just so annoying. It bothers me because its nice to be able to listen to what people who arent complete Colts homers have to say about them. Yet it never happens. It just seems like such a slap in the face to be the only one of five teams who didnt get a highlight, like they dont even consider us a playoff team. I just want to be recognized as the great team that we are. This might not be the best example but i think of it as having a son or family member who is fantastic at their sport yet they never get recognized in the paper bc they go to a "small" school. Eventually youre like WTH!

But looking at it that way, why would KC be more likely than us to make a run in the playoffs? We just steamrolled them AT HOME and have lost like 4 of their last 5. The bengals were just beat down by the Steelers and "technically" only beat us by 7 at home if you disregard the bogus TD on 4th and goal. Honestly the only games i think we played terribly for 4 quarters are the Rams and Cardinals games, and both of those teams have been playing great. I think we have just as good of a shot at making the Super Bowl than anyone in the AFC.

After Chris Polian gets fired as Player Personnel Director(JAX).....ESPN will never be the same.....he was a true cancer to the staff on West 56th.

It is so great to have a family atmosphere in Indy...not just the Polian family.!!  Or Polian 'disciples' handing him big positions I feel some on here could do better....I do not like Chris Polian in the least...tore our scouting department apart!!

Old article....but interesting.

It's about like the Monday night football preview vs the chargers. Where they only showed andrew luck on the commercial and didn't even say who they were playing. LoL.

Im suprised they didnt photoshop him out of his Colts uniform and have him in just a plain #12 jersey like Eli Manning in the Citizen commercials.

So which teams showed on espn on all the time have made the Super Bowl? haha

If you look at it more closely, ESPN plays to the favorites in a popularity contest sort of way. Its the ONLY way a team that has shown such mediocrity as the Dallas Cowboys keep getting air time like they have been legitimate Super Bowl contenders for years...they have gotten more coverage on ESPN than any of the past 10 Super Bowl winners COMBINED. And this team has been a 500% club since 1997. It just beggs the question...since "Americas team" is supposedly the Cowboys, is mediocrity what "America" really celebrating? ESPN is ridiculous.

If that is true why is it when everyone thought we were gonna lose to the chiefs.  And we destroyed them.  That on mike and mike and on first take they talked about it for 2 mins.  But the cowboys or washington or any other big market they spent hours on. Just saying

Far too often there is no real reason for hate in the world other than people not responding to the better nature of our angels. Hate is easy but it's a fire inside that demands to be fed and robs people of their time and peace. As others here have said just let it go and find the light that is the Colts success this year..... however much of it we are granted to have and just enjoy it without being robbed of the joy by someone else's negativity.

Americas team makes huge money!! ...  on the field make little headway.  Why is this not a path should ESPN follow?

Dallas is a big market with lots of fans and ESPN is in the money making business. It's not like ESPN is the C-Span of the sports world.

Espn believes Colts and Irsay did Peyton wrong...Peyton is their commercial boy and cash cow.

Not a surprise.

personally, I liked it last week when the anchor said "Colts are only team to clinch and they'll be the worst team in the playoffs"

Then we go and put Beatdown on KC and the sunshine band

Holy Smokes that is a terrible post.

Holy Smokes that is a terrible post.

the part about hating us for doing Peyton wrong is really stupid.  Obviously it made a huge story and did good things for ESPN when we let him go, Denver signed him, and he broke the all time TD record...

but the part about them saying "Indy is the only team to clinch a playoff spot but they will be the worst playoff team" right before we beat KC makes me smile :)

    • It's the most quiet time of the season in terms of overall sports (Sorry baseball and golf fans) so I figured we can discuss position by position to see where there's potential, where we're gonna be pretty average, and where we have cause for concern.    Potential    QB - Easy one to start with as 12 quarters is hardly enough to gauge what AR is, but what he could be especially in Shane's offense still gets me excited. Keep in mind, AR scored 7 tds in 12 quarters which is essentially 7 tds in 3 games. In 17 games, that's approximately 40 tds which is insane and that was without Taylor in the backfield with him.   WR - Pittman clearly is the WR1, but the potential after him gets me very excited. Downs was coming into his own before he got hurt, Pierce hopefully can be used more in the passing game instead of just a decoy with AR back. I saw a funny statistic that Pierce ran the most miles throughout the season without getting targeted which can be taken as a good thing or a bad thing depending on how you want to interpret it. Mitchell really gets me excited. His catch radius is ridiculous. It's Hopkins like. I honestly think Mitchell gives us that big play potential our WR room is missing.   DL - imo, this is the best the dline has looked in Ballard's tenure. Buck is still one of the best DTs in the league, Grove is a monster in run defense and has improved his pass rush, and Paye, Dayo, and Ebukam almost each had double digit sacks. I get what everyone is gonna say, yes we had 51 sacks however it was sporadic especially in the final game of the season. I still think the potential is there to have one of the best units in the league and it's gonna get better with the additions of Latu and Raewkon Davis.   Average    RB - I'm not talking about Taylor. I think he's poised for his best season since 21. I'm referring to the entire unit. Right now the backs behind Taylor are Sermon, Goodson, and Hull. If anything were to happen to Taylor, the room becomes a run at the mill group with different skill sets.   OL - While I do think the oline got better from 22 to 23, I think as an overall unit that the oline is average. Raimann did look good this season and Fries was steady, but I'm worried if health is getting to Nelson, Kelly, and Smith. I think Nelson first four years was a lot better then Nelson the last two years. Just seems like Nelson isn't the immovable object he use to be. I'm not saying he's not playing at a high level, but I do think he's dipped from where he use to be. Kelly for almost two years looked like he needed to retire, but looked much improved last season and hopefully he can stay healthy. Smith concerns me the most. Just constantly hurt and/or not playing at the level we've grown to expect from him. The depth is mostly young and inexperienced as well. While I do think our oline is still a good unit, it's not where it use to be in terms of position strength at this time.   TE - While we do have a lot of different types of TEs on the team to help stabilize the position, there are still question marks. Granson imo is our best TE in terms being able to move everywhere on the field. Olgetree seems to be a very good blocker and can bust the seem. Woods flashed as a rookie, but was hurt last year. MAC I see more as another olinemen. He can make plays in the passing game, but his value is more at blocking. Mallory is your traditional find an open spot in the defense and sit there as a safety valve. Collectively, they each bring something to the table, but the room doesn't have that TE1 presence imo.   Concern   S - I think this is everyone's concern as imo it's the weakest unit on the team. Blackmon returning does help, however Cross and Thomas have not proven either one can start full time and the only other potential starter at S is Ronnie Harrison. I would like to believe eventually Ballard will sign Simmons or Diggs.    CB - While I do think Brents and Jones played really well as rookies, this unit concerns me as the room is made up of mostly second and third year players with Kenny being the lone vet. Flowers returning can definitely help as I thought he was playing very well before he got hurt, but the fifth and sixth CB spots imo are completely open.   LB - Yes Franklin has established himself as the best LB on the team, there really isn't much depth afterwards. This will be the first season Speed is the full-time starter, Oubi and Stuard are more for STs, and Carlies is converting from S to LB.
    • It’s been 27 years since the Reds have won a playoff game. The longest drought in all of sports…    Since that time and since the Castilinis bought the team, we’ve only reached the post season 4 times…
    • Definitely see him in the rotation especially if God forbid Grove or Buck get hurt. The 6 games Grove was suspended was brutal in terms of run defense. Eric Johnson and Bryan were just constantly pushed back
    • Yea those wobbly ducks weren't pretty, but they were effective
    • I think the line changes will be the same as last season, except adding in the new guys (Davis and Latu).   But those two should be an upgrade.     I agree that Davis is a key add.  The drop off from when Grove is out should be a ton less damaging.  Bryan was out of position and it was obvious he couldn’t fill Grove’s shoes.     With our uncertainty in the D backfield, the Dline better be what we expect.
