He knows he was a Disaster in this D. Of course he would wish he could stay here and contribute, this is HOME.

And these guys may Pay him. The idea makes me want to barf.

Pay him $2M for one year and HOPE he is a Backup/Rotational- pass rush guy. But he will still kill us against the run.

Hopefully he LEAVES for a 4-3 Team where he belongs. PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"I'd like to stay here" is the default line for any impending free agent because it makes the team look like the bad guy for not resigning the player as opposed to the player bolting for more money.  This is a bit of a unique circumstance because there really just seems to be a disconnect between the player's abilities and his role and hopefully if/when Freeney and the team part ways the fans will realize this and not blame either side.

We'll see how interested he is once free agency gets here.

I'd say there is a slim to none chance he will be a Colt next year.. Hate to say it, because I love seeing him get after the QB. He just doesn't fit the scheme anymore and is a situational pass rush guy. Only way he is back is if he takes a HUGE decrease in pay

Might happen but I doubt it, I'd offer him a 1 year deal worth 7 million (half of what he made this year) simply because I think he can still get it done being a pass rush specialist and if and likely when Warmack was picked then I'd trade down KC or Detroit while picking up an extra 3rd round pick and I'd draft

1.Rhodes

2.Okafor

3.Travis Frederick

3.Brandon Jenkins or Brandon Williams or Robert Lester

You all may be right, but I am cracking up a little here. This is EXACTLY what was said about Dfree before last season. There were many emphatic posts that here was no way the Colts would pay his final contract year. There were many emphatic posts that he would not fit the scheme and would only get a contract with a huge reduction in his pay.

Again, I am not saying you are all wrong now, I am saying a lot pf people were wrong before.

I think it would be a terrible idea to bring him back. Not only does it waste money signing a guy that obviously can't play the position but it significantly hurts the team moving forward. Im with bav on him just repeating the standard line that all free agents say. I still believe that he wants to play in a 4-3, I have no doubt that he likes Indy but I don't think he likes the current system.

We're going to see if there is a real market for a guy who is older, based on speed and who has had these ankle injuries over the past few years. He is not going to get a contract above 5mil/season if he gets a large contract at all. He is not a prime player in the league anymore, happens to every athlete. He isn't a top 10 or 15 DE anymore.

Now saying that, I would love to see him stay in Indy for his whole career and would welcome him back on a 3 yr 12-15 mil contract and accept being the role player. Any more than that and you just have to thank him for what he has done and move on. It happens to all players, their time comes but I feel like this would be a good contract for a guy like Freeney. He may not be able to accept the role spot and feel he has way more to offer a team but unless he chooses a team that suits his strong suit over a team willing to give him more cash, he will fail.

Forget it's DF. If we picked up a rush specialist, 3rd down guy, older Bruce Irvin, FOR THE RIGHT AMOUNT OF MONEY, we'd all be estatic.

I don't know if Freeney is ready to admit he's that guy now, or would take that contract. But I'm certain that the offer will be made.

I love Freeney but I dont think we should resign him. Like someone said earlier, his best years are far behind him, he was a great player for us for a long time, but he does not fit here anymore. It's just that simple, time to move on. It is whats best for everyone involved. Good Luck #93 wherever you go. (as long as it's not in the division). lmao

I agree 100%. He is not a good fit and I have no interest on signing a 33 yr. old pass rush specialist trying to play a position that he's terrible in. I don't think the team will entertain bringing him back IMO. It just doesn't make sense for our long term or even short term growth. IMO resigning Freeney to play a 3-4 OLBer, is about like signing a top O-lineman and making him play safety. Neither scenario makes any sense what so ever.

Take a huge paycut and I'm with it. That means we don't have to sign an OLB this year imo. Can sign/draft another need

Even if he takes a huge paycut(which is highly unlikely) that still don't solve the problem that he's awful in a 3-4 OLBer role. Yeah, he might be able to rack up a few sacks, but he is a gigantic liability against the run and dropping into coverage. I'm about making the team better and Freeney, Im sorry, but makes the team worse.

I wouldn't say he makes the team "worse". Vaughn makes the team "worse". Freeney can get a little better imo

Any time you can't defend the run or drop into coverage, then yeah, that makes the team worse.

Freeney isn't as bad as some people are making it seem. He actually made some plays in the run game that don't go on the stat sheet. Yes he has room for improvement, but he's not the worst spot on this Defense. I think if he takes the paycut, we're gonna keep him. Use him in rotation. 3rd and long he goes in. Then on 3rd & shorts, we put someone else in

I would disagree. Teams continually exploited us by running straight to Freeney's side. We were gashed time after time after time. It was discussed on gameday threads over and over. I guess we can agree to disagree on this topic but nobody will change my mind. If we keep Freeney our team will be worse because of it. If we do the right thing and let him go and sign Kruger/Spencer, or draft a real 3-4 OLBer we'll will be better for it.

I'm just saying what I do on Madden. I take Freeney out on Short Yard plays and they put Sam Acho in. Then use Freeney on long yards and he gets pressure on the QB haha

Well, unfortunately this isn't Madden. :D IMO keeping Freeney even at a very small contract just ties up a roster spot and takes away resources for another guy that could really help our defense.

This is True haha . But this will be an interesting storyline to follow this off-season. Can't wait

I figure it all comes down to money, if there is a 4-3 team out there willing to pay what he wants, he will go, albeit maybe with a heavy heart on both sides. But there isn't much room for sentimentality in professional sport these days.

However, and there hasn't been any teams making noises as yet about him which you'd think some would have, if he goes a while without getting any offers and his demands start to drop you might reach a point where the FO take somewhat of a punt on him improving next season in the 3-4. I can't see much changing even if he is 100% fit, old dogs new tricks etc.

I think the question is at what price would you resign him for? What's Vet Min just out of interest (I'm sure he will want a heck of a lot more!)
