I wasn't aware of any trade speculation concerning Hilton.

Wasn't anything serious, Just some on the forum getting all worked up because of the addition of Dorsett, Regardless...Hilton will be here as long as he wants to be here and I see no reason why he would want to leave unless he is offered an insane deal elsewhere

It is business.

TY is a solid bet to leave.

We have plenty of replacement talent that comes cheap, and someone WILL Pay some Big $$ for that speed.

And to deplete the Monster. All pure speculation of course.

...... please stop. Irsay is working now to keep him here. They didn't rule out having him & chuck signed before the season starts

Was anyone actually thinking this wouldn't get done?

I mean, once get get a WR we like we don't tend to let them go.

I worry about it.  Burners like TY tend to get a bunch of money in FA.  With his production and if he continues it and gets like 1200 yards this next season I could honestly see him getting 12M APY from someone.

I'm like a thousand times more concerned we'll pay him something absurd than I am we let him walk.

Chappell said after talking to Grigson today he 100% believes Hilton's deal won't be done until after the season.

Great it will only get more expensive then.  Not only cap wise, but he then has no incentive to get the deal done early to protect him from injury.

This guy is either going to walk or we're gonna pay him a huge amount of money.

I assume they're hoping with all the weapons that Hilton won't go off for 1,000+ thus making him cheaper. But if this backfires and be still goes off despite losing touches..... yeah, Hilton can park a 18 wheeler in front of Irsay's bank cause he's gonna get paiiiiiiidddddddd

That's usually how it works with great players

Remember......

If we can't come to an agreement with TY,  we can always put a franchise tag on him.

That may not be ideal,  but we're not letting Hilton walk out the door for nothing....

Lots of time to get this figured out......

i have a feeling that tag is going to Castonzo regardless. He's the Colts best lineman and the Colts are much thinner at oline than they are WR. I expect the Colts to keep both though.

This IS actually a business question

This does really come down to TY and his agent

Does he seek top WR money?

Does his agent want Calvin Johnson money? (16.2 million)

Does his agent want Larry F money? (16.1 million)

Dez Bryants STARTING request will be 16 plus

or

Does his agent want Percy Harmon money (12 mil)

I say if its 8 -10 mill.... yes!

But..... Love the guy and all, but looking at the salaries, ........ it makes you wonder if the guy is going to want to be paid less

I dont think we have 12-16 million for TY

With the coming insane (but worth it) Luck Salary ---- (He will be paid the highest in the NFL)

We wont be able to tie up so much a few players, IMHO

Me too Jaric, it drives me crazy how they will break the cap for a few skill positions

and wonder why we can't blow open a running lane or stuff the run with leftover

cap space.

It's the Colt's way but I don't agree with it. If we can't win it all with this offensive

lineup, then it just proves to me that we have a bad blueprint for building

a team.

For a speedster like TY, one bad injury to a knee and you don't quite have the speed you once did.  IMO, he's going to try to get every $ that he can with this next contract.  Can't really say that I blame him, it has become the name of the game.  The Colts have waaaay too many contracts coming up to be able to take care of everybody.  I think that Irsay is blowing smoke, to me the Dorsett pick is definitely an insurance against Hilton leaving.  I want nothing more than for him to stay, but I give it a 50/50% chance he remains a Colt.

Yep...that is the worse concern...giving Hilton/Rozensleaze a ton of money to the detriment of the rest of the roster. Rozensleaze is going to market T.Y. to the rest of the NFL and some team will offer him crazy money. It comes down to how much T.Y. wants to stay with Andrew and the Colts...Hilton will have to take less than the top offer out there.

Hilton's latest quote on PFT and Rotoworld - "If they want to pay me, they'll pay me".

It doesn't sound like any hometown discount is coming.

He also said regarding negotiations "I leave that to my agent and just go out there and have fun".

....hmmmmmmmmmmm.

i dont think we are going to see very many of those from our young players in the near future.  those usually come from aging veterans for one of a couple of reasons.

either they have more than enough money already and want to try to help the team on the field a little bit like brady did.

or they have been with a team for a decade and dont want to move like reggie wayne did

I'm struggling to think if any skill position guys the current FO have "broken" the cap for, most of our bigger FA spending has been on the defensive side of the ball.

Until Andre Johnson, all of the offensive skill free agent signings have been bargain guys. Cherilus and Thomas got bigger contracts than any skill guys on offense.

That was my thinking, even then I woulndt call Johnson's deal a cap breaker. It's not say a Calvin Johnson level contract for a WR.

No, it's not a cap breaker, but it's not a bargain either. In that way, it's different from Donnie Avery, DHB and Nicks. Different from Bradshaw, too. I'm sure I'm forgetting someone, but those are the only notable free agent skill guys that Grigson has signed before this offseason.

Agreed, Grigson rolled the dice cheaplya few times on WRs hoping one would break out and this is IIRC the first time he's made a serious imvestment in the position. Same goes for RB (from a cap perspective anyway).

Oddly out of the 3 receivers you mentioned I think Avery gave us the best bang for our buck.

Definitely. I thought Nicks was gonna break the mold, but no dice. That's why I've been kind of reserved on AJ, but I still think he's clearly a cut above everyone else.

I like TY, but I think they should be willing to let him go.   And I do think that impacted the choice to draft Dorsett.  I hate to say it, but the Pats have been the best at cap management for a while now, and one thing they're consistent about is they never spend big $ on WRs.
