Colts Coordinators

Recommended Posts

It may be a bit premature due to the fact we don't know who will be fired/move on and we still have rest of season plus all the playoffs to go but it has been talked about a little bit.

There are some teams having major problems this year. Jets, Falcons, Bucs, Raiders, Panthers, Redskins, Giants.

Any of these coaches/coordinators could be on the hot seat. Also teams that are having decent seasons with coaches on the hot season. All these teams will be looking around for a head coach or coordinators.

1.) First do you think the Colts will fire any coordinator or that a coordinator will leave for a HC job?

2.) Second who do you think the Colts would look at or who you would want them to look at?

My Predictions:

Chuck is probably for sure keeping his job.

I for one think that Pep Hamilton will be moving on to a Head Coaching job. It looks like the word is around the NFL other teams believe in him. (This is becoming a common thing for Colts coordinators)

Also I am hoping we move on from Manusky. Our defense is way to up and down and I had seen plenty. We might not have all of the pieces but this defense can be straight up embarrassing some games.

I do believe at the end of this season the Colts will be looking for a new offensive coordinator but we will keep Manuksy due to the fact it seems that the Front office believes in him for some really odd reason. Also I feel that the front office would not want to chance offensive and defensive coordinators in the same year.

My wish list though:

Offensive coordinator: college coach such as Jimbo Frasier from FSU, Art Briles from Baylor, James Franklin from PSU, Mark Helfrich from Oregon, or Chris Peterson from Washington.

---- I for one would love James Franklin to come in and try his hand at offensive coordinator. His fire and his passion is very contagious. He takes a lot of chances. He brought Vanderbilt from a low expectations to 2 bowl games in 3 years.

---- Mark Helfirch from Oregon would be a nice offensive fit as well because he has been a great offensive mind in the past. Oregon has had a very dangerous offense ever since he has taken over as coordinator and now coach.

---- One more I wouldn't mind seeing is Chris Peterson from Washington. In his coaching career he is 92-12 in the FBS. That is an impressive record and Washington also has become a good offensive team.

Defensive coordinator:

----- Rex Ryan. Not a good head coach and I haven't ever been much of a fan but he is an amazing defensive coach! I think he is a good coach! He just happens to be media hungry! I feel that his players will play hard for him and listen to him. This Colts team would be so dangerous with him as a defensive mind. Also Rex Ryan seems to have always had an answer for Tom Brady and the patriots. If he could keep his dang mouth shut to the media he could really help this Colts team. It would be impressive to see.

I think Pep is the only one in position to get a HC job.  I don't think we fire anyone unless the D completely collapses in the playoffs.  Which is a distinct possibility.

I'm no expert on offensive line coaching or schemes, but I have to believe that we should better results with the personnel we have.  No one on that line is bad, and AC and Cherilus are both above average.

Someone has access to the O line scores.  How has McGlynn and Satele done with their new teams?

Pff grades you mean?

McGlynn is still literally the worst G in the NFL. Satele is 25/42.

Satele is starting in Miami because of an injury to the starting center and has been playing ok.  I watched him during the Denver game and he did well.  McGlynn is a starting guard in KC and he looks as bad as he did in the shoe.

1. Colts aren't really the "firing" team so doubt anyone is fired. Pep hopefully leaves and hopefully Manusky too

2. Rex Ryan for DC and Chudzinski if he's cleared to sign with us as the official OC

But the only problem that cause is it'll be ANOTHER new system for the young guys. And could also spell the end for Reggie as he may not wanna learn yet another offense at his age

What makes you think the the front office "believes" in Manusky? Given Manusky wasn't their first choice for DC, I've thought he could be an easy scapegoat.

Also, why would any of the Power 5 conference HCs you mention take an NFL coordinator job?

I really hope Pep stays. I would absolutely love Rex Ryan for DC. I'm worried that Reggie is retiring no matter what.

Well it's more I feel like the Front office doesn't like to move on unless they have to.. I'm not sure it's just a feelin I get. No justification behind it. Just my opinion.

And well it all depends on money obviously. But they if are looking to become an NFL head coach it might be a ladder step towards their goal. Ecspecialy if they show up and use their skills with the Colts. Teams seem to like the Colts coordinators! ;)

Too bad McGlynn didn't stick with the Skins.  Maybe we'll see him in the playoffs.

Back on topic - Grigson is always adjusting the roster, trying to make it better from the bottom up.  It makes sense that he would evaluate the coaching staff the same way.

They cut ties with the former special teams coach pretty quickly

I to think Pep will be gone to be head coach either at the college or pro level . I would like Shany runs zone blocking scheme and is good at working to team strengths was hindered in Washington by bad management or let Chud get his chance .

Fire Manusky If Rex is available we should do anything we can to bring him in other option would be the guy from Miami he knows how to beat the Pats .

Line coaches need  to go we have plenty of talent but they perform so bad at times . I don't know any good coaches in that department but someone who comes from a good zone blocking team would be great .

Chuck, Pep, and Manusky are all safe.

Pep could leave for a HC gig, but he won't be fired.

I don't see any of those college coaches leaving their schools to become coordinators in the NFL. Just not going to happen, especially since they are high profile names that you listed.

If Rex is gone (and he probably is) I would hire him for DC in a heart beat. I'm not so sure he won't be a top HC candidate though. The Jets franchise is a mess. I think wih a better organization he can flourish.

I think Rex is a guy who could take a year off and come back to multiple offers for head coach. Lovie Smith, Jeff Fisher, etc., have been able to do that. (I think Chud will, also.) So I doubt he takes a coordinator job.

Besides, I wouldn't be firing Manusky. I don't have a problem with his coaching this season. But if Rex wanted to work, I'd make him a senior assistant, similar to Chud, and let him work with Manusky and everyone else.

Also, I don't think Pep is going anywhere. I think it's unlikely that he gets a good offer from anyone, college or pros. Anything can happen, obviously, I just doubt it.

You don't have to apologize. I'm sure you wouldn't have said anything of value anyway.

If you are trying to bait me into an argument it wont work. If my comments bother you so much I am sure you are smart enough to use the ignore button. If you have a hard time figuring that out please ask one of the Mods, they would be happy to help you out.

I would love to try and get Bill Callahan from Dallas as our new OC. He is currently their OL/running game coordinator. If that doesn't improve our running game, and adding a player or 2 in free agency, I don't know what will.

We also need to seriously consider bringing back the stretch play to keep defenses guessing if we are running or play action passing.
