should colts try to trade for percy harvin?

I read on the net this morning that percy harvin has asked for a trade from minnesota or he will hold out this year. should the colts pursue a trade for him and if so what do you think it will cost?

its just a thought....

in my opinion i think it wouldnt hurt to kick the tires and see what the vikes want for him if they do indeed put him out on the block. would be a very nice addition to the offense, a guy who can play RB and WR. not to mention his special teams production. put him and T.Y. Hilton to return kick offs the colts could have one of the most lethal KR/PR attacks in the game. not to mention the ammount of pressure he could help take off of Luck. plus he is young and could be signed long term.

Now i figure given his injury history as a viking, a 2nd or 3rd round pick with maybe a 6th or 7th round pick and someone like Freeney to minnesota for Harvin. if im not mistaken minnesota plays a 4-3 so it would benefit freeney to where he can play on the line. colts could put Hughes or Fugger where freeney was suppose to start.

Thoughts?

Don't see it, he still has 2 years left on Rookie contract and Vikes don't have to honor his request.

Would probably want too much money and don't know with our situation that he would be worth a couple of picks being given up.

I think Freeny is looking forward to new position and want to see how he does.

I don't think he is going anywhere. Young productive players in the middle of their rookie contracts don't get traded. He has NO LEVERAGE. The team is already pretty bad and are rebuilding. He isn't holding their season hostage. The team isn't set up around the guy. This isn't like Revis holding out...or even really like if Deshawn Jackson held out. He just isn't that big a part of their offense.

He is electric and makes sensational plays but he isn't the focal point of that offense nor is he really a dependable #1 receiver. It's just bogus if you ask me. While I love his talent I got to think we have people on this team that can be every bit as productive as him.

There are trade scenerios in which I would move Freeney. This just isn't one of them.

I think we have Percy Harvin in T.Y. Hilton...he's going to serve as the x factor, wild card type athlete role that Harvin plays....Plus Harvin has issues with migraines and he's sort of a diva.....I've been a Hilton fan for a few years now living in Florida and there are basically the same type of player without all the attitude.

If he's truly on the market of course they should at least see what it would cost. With that said I don't buy that just because he wants a trade that the Vikings are going to be willing to do so. If he's truly on the market and the price is right I'd before it even with the migraine issues.

I do not understand him and his migraines.I suffered with them for 40 years now there our shots and an hour later migraine gone.

Not all migraines are equal. Also I think I read some where that the shot he could take for it violated one of the policies with the NFL. I could be wrong about the last part.

Violating NFL rules sounds more likely than the shot not working, and there are other meds you must take before shot to reduce amount of migraines.

He's an extremely important piece of that offense. On top of being there #1WR, beating the #2 by 49 catches, was 3rd on the team in rushes with 58, and he's the KR.

And depending on the recovery of Peterson,Harvin is the clear cut #1 weapon on Off. for that team this year.

vikings would want freeney and a 3rd. i would do it harvin is one of the most dynamic wr's in the league.

No way would I get rid of my 3rd round pick, 4th and Freeney for there 5th and Harvin (like that deal would ever happen)

He'd be an excellent addition, that's for sure. Not sure what the asking price would be, and I doubt the Vikings will trade him unless someone blows them away (like, a first rounder + a solid contributor). But he's good enough to be a #1 option in the passing game. If we hadn't drafted two receivers and tight ends, I'd be all for it.

I don't see this happening for many reasons:

  • Harvin still has 2 years left on his rookie contract
  • Harvin would want too much money
  • Harvin is injury prone and the Colts already tried to get rid of most of their injury prone players (Brackett, Clark, Bullitt, etc.)
  • The Colts have practically no money left
  • The Colts already have a good receiving tandem in Wayne, Avery, Collie, Brazill, Hilton, Fleener, and Allen so there is no need to overspend for another
  • The Colts already have good return specialists in Hilton, Karim, and Moore
  • The Freeney Trade won't happen because it's been announced by Grigson that he WILL be a Colt in 2012

So although Harvin is an amazing athlete, dynamic player, and a good receiver, the Colts won't even think about pursuing Harvin

I know everything he did...but he did it on a 3 win team with a rookie qb and few options. I know he is important but to me a WR is not irreplacable. Especially one that has the tendencies to miss games like he does. That team had so many problems that he is not going to hold them hostage. They know they have a lot of rebuilding to do and since he has no leverage as far as fear of losing him (2 more years) they will take what they can get and cut ties in a couple years if he is continuing to be a head ache. You can get production from a wr a lot more easier than most other positions in the nfl. Great talent...very fast and elusive and a big play capability guy but I don't think they are worried about a him missing games as far as holdouts. If he does perhaps they trade him but other teams are going to be afraid of that attitude to. It would be different if we are talking about Cam Newton unhappy with his contract after a couple years if he has another great season...but this kid is getting paid probably what he deserves for his production.

Probably one of the better " lets get x player!" threads but at this point, I don't see the logic in it. Vikings would want too much, we have players that basically have the same skill set, he's somewhat of a diva, and has a migraine issue that can pop up at anytime.

Owners and managers say that kind of stuff all the time. The caveat to that statement that is never spoken is ".........unless something better comes along."

Agreed but with that said a guy thats making 14 million dollars this year in the last year of his deal at 32 years old is next to untradeable in my opinion

I understand the migraines are a concern but where is this idea that he's injury prone? He's played in 45 out of a possible 48 games and started 35 of the 45 games he's played.

I don't see it happening because as others have pointed out typically players don't get traded on their rookie contracts but it'd be worth a phone call. He's a pretty explosive player and still under 25.

What would you give up for him

I would start with how many total trades occurred last year, factor in the new CBA, and calculate the chance of any trade...of any kind ...happening. Then consider it including us.

Extrememly unlikely, as in less than probably 1/1000 of a percent.

I just remembered we have TY Hilton & LaVon Brazill..... PASS on Harvin *Presses Pass Button* lol

Why would you want TY Baller and Harvin, that would be deadly......and no need to panic come injury.....

Trade Luck for Harvin straight up
