Colts potential landing spot for Jerry Hughes?

Recommended Posts

Get that man back here! Never should have traded him!...Meh probably wont happen, Just media throwing out names, Would bring an instant threat to our pass rush that I think we have little chance of getting in this draft, Hughes has a lightening quick first step and has developed as a pass rusher......As long as he keeps the attitude in check and keeps his nose clean off the field bring him in

Because his failure here, and the fact that I think he has product of the Bills front 7.

But he was not a failure here, He was behind two hall of fame likely pass rushers who were not coming out of the game under many if any circumstances barring injury, That's not a failure, That's a GM making a bad pick because he had no intent to use him right away., He also stood on his own in Buffalo, Developed his pass rush moves actually, How could he be a product of the Bills front 7 when he was able to get 4 sacks while only starting 6 games his last year here with a much less talented D Line

I don't see it. He's good as a 4-3 DE but he sucked as freenys replacement in the OLB slot, which assuming if he were to come here, that's where he'd play again. Let's put it this way...if Rex ryan, the defensive guru he's said to be, let's him walk...there's a good reason

He's a 4-3 DE, he's not as good as a 3-4 OLB. He didn't play a lot while he was here, but he played DE in college and plays a lot better as a DE. We would need more help on the D-Line if he was to really create pass rush here.

His best year was as a OLB in 2013.

The reason being they can't afford him.

he did better than freeney in the olb spot and since him and freeney left who's been more productive?

Bring him back.  He can be a special play guy (not a full starter).  10 mill a year, Ehhhhhh, I hope we get him for less with some guarantees.

Hughes is not coming back. He is sour about being traded, and made salty comments on Irsay when he was arrested. I wouldn't want him back either. And we don't even know why he was traded in the first place. Speculation has it that he can have quite the attitude.

He's not worth the money he's going to command. And a bunch of his sacks came after the QB held on to the ball for what seemed like an hour. No thanks. Give me Jason Worilds or McPhee.

Why worilds? He is useless... He's horrible against the run and can only pass rush which I think he is only "good" at not great. Hughes is a much better pass rusher and has some resilience in the run game.

While I agree that it was a bad trade, Hughes had plenty of chances to show something and didn't until his final yr here

Have you ever watched Worilds? Kid is a beast.

Often actually... my wife's a die hard Pit fan. Even their fan base is rejoicing that they didn't give him the tag.

He can provide a decent rush but no where near 8-10 million a year worth.

He played 2 years in our 4-3 and 1 in our 3-4.  He had no prior experience in a 3-4 and was behind Freeney/Mathis in our 4-3.  Not to mention he didn't have the talent he has around him in Buffalo overall.  He just played on a D-Line with Williams, Dareus and Williams. it could have just been he also needed a little longer to develop and acclimate to the NFL.

    • T….    Thanks again for your patience.   Long answer ahead.      The most important comment was this….  Right after Ballard and Steichen met the local media on draft night Ballard went live with the Pat McAfee show who were doing their own draft show….  Pat pressed Ballard…. When did Steichen buy into Richardson?  (Remember, Colts scouts had been on AR for 6 months.).     So Steichen’s office is next to Ballard’s with an adjoining door.  And Ballard tells Pat he's in his office about a week after Steichen was hired and he can hear Steichen shouting with astonishment….  Suddenly, Shane comes racing into Ballard’s office exclaiming “have you been looking at Richardson?!?  He is unbelievable!”   (Steichen’s opinion carries weight with me.).  So clearly Ballard had not said a word about AR.  He wanted Steichen’s honest evaluation without the influence of the opinion of Ballard and the scouts.  And Steichen was madly in love with him.   Head over heels!    Next….  There’s a video of Morocco Brown and Ed Dodds.   Brown was scouting the University of Florida.  And back in August of 22, Brown is watching Gators training camp.  He starts texting Ballard that he’s watching someone special….   Anthony Richardson.  The staff with Florida gives Brown video clips of other practices and Brown is dazzled.  Says in his 20 years of scouting Brown has never seen anyone like him.     Now…. Dodds gets involved….   Somewhat skeptical.   Dodds says he doesn’t like to scout simply by looking at video clips.  He likes to go to games and see the player in person. And Dodds attends the first four games of the Gators 22 season, which turn out to be AR’s worst games of the season.  But Dodds says even with the highs and lows, the good and bad, Richardson’s impact can be felt in the game.  Both Dodds and Brown say with Richardson you have to defend every blade of grass, the entire field.     By the way, while Ballard and Steichen would not compare AR to anyone, both Brown and Dodds didn’t hesitate.  They compared AR to Buffalo’s Josh Allen.  AR is an inch and a half shorter, but about 5-10 pounds heavier and much more athletic.   Faster, more explosive.  Freaky.     Ballard, Steichen, Brown and Dodds say they met with Richardson in Florida in January for a private workout.  They were impressed with him both as a player and a person.  Came from a very difficult family background and upbringing and AR was viewed as a mature young man.  Then they brought AR into Indy for 24 hours and again, everyone commented on his unique blend of being both humble and a leader of men who wanted to get better.    These were the comments said mostly the first night of the draft.   Some may have come two-three days later.   On YouTube, videos longer than a year old typically don’t have a date, it’s simply listed as more than a year old.     Apologies this was so long.  Took me 45 minutes to write.  Hope this answers your question.   If you have more questions, feel free to follow up, and I’ll try to respond asap.
    • The is the best defense the Pacers have played all season. Pacers play like this the rest of the way, they have a chance against Boston.
    • 69-41 at Half. We have the better team in reality and are deeper. I have said it all series. They got gifted Game 1. Divincenzo has been playing like Larry Bird, I knew that crap would not keep happening.
