Moncrief

It's a tough thing to describe, that's probably where the mix-up is coming from. I've given the wrong impression about my thoughts on Moncrief many times, because people often think I'm saying he can't catch. No, he absolutely can catch, I just want him to catch with his hands because I think it will make him a better receiver, make it easier for him to take advantage of his size and athleticism.

As far as his tools go, I've compared him to Larry Fitzgerald and Julio Jones. Someone else compared him to AJ Green. Really significant comparisons. But the difference between him and those three is that he doesn't attack the ball. If he starts doing that, look out.

I get what you mean. Attack the ball and make darn sure you are the one who gets it. I also think by doing that it gets you ready to make your next move in full on attack mode. I think he should be able to develope that. Sounds like more of a mental aspect part of it.

I really enjoyed his breakout game yesterday and I have to say that kid is quick and has good open field running ability however I can't shake the DHB comparison to him. He catches everything with his body. I understand there is some dynamics at play as to where the pass is thrown but even things he can catch with his hands he catches with his body. I first thought this when I watched his highlight videos coming out of college and yesterday, if I remember correctly, they were all body catches.

There are plenty of receivers that have the ability to make a career in the NFL doing that, it's just not something I am used to.

Is this a just me thing or do others see this as well?

That sideline catch with the toe tap was easily better than any catch DHB ever made for us. Moncrief may let more balls into his chest than he should but I'm really not worried about him being anything like DHB.

So far I've seen everyone say they "love Moncrief" he has played one good game!

The hype on this board is always crazy!!

I can't wait until Moncrief has a bad game and everyone bashes him for it!!! (Obviously don't want him to but it's just funny how people react game to game.)

I want more Moncrief. I think he's going to be a very good player for us for a long time.

The shocking thing is how young he is and with the help of Reggie this you man can grow into something special with his speed. All you have to do is look at the catch on the sideline at the 1 yard line that was awesome but the refs almost robbed him of it.

ya he was, and  even into his second season...     disappointment ...     =         bust.....

I live right here in Coltville...       I remember very vividly...

It's about time I found someone around here remembers it correctly. Last time I brought this up, I had to take on 90% of the board, because they could not believe it.

Reggie did not have a stellar start in Indy, and Colts fans were ticked off that we took a receiver to begin with.

It took a few years for the fans to fall in love with Reggie Wayne, but once they did, the connection became real. Reggie is a true Colt, through and through. I hope he never plays in a different uniform.

Reggie was not considered a bust after his first season! :slaphead:

He was by many, not just after his first season but after his first two seasons, especially on the indystar forum.  People said things like, if Wayne were any good he would have been starting, or the Colts must not have faith in him because they signed Ismail and then Troy Walters, etc.  Others said he doesn't have the skill set to be a #1 WR in the NFL.  I remember in 2003 fans wanting the Colts to trade up to take Charles Rogers or the year before wanted the Colts to take Ashley Lelie instead of Freeney.

Really, if your catching everything with your body, then your not catching with your hands, and that makes catching with your hands, the issue, whether you can catch with your hands or not, your not confident enough to catch with your hands, and that makes catching with you body instead of your hands the issue, " Once again you make no sense at all" "What part of that do you not understand"

Why did you put quotation marks around a normal sentence?

Because I can. "WHAT PART OF THAT DID YOU NOT UNDERSTAND"

Oh wow, you are so freakin cool man.  Quotes are used when you are stating what someone else said.  You are just typing a normal statement with quotes around it and it makes you look ignorant.

The DHB comparisons and comments on needing to catch with his hands are just plain stupid.

Alright that's fine but why do you feel that way? what supports you in feeling that way?

I want him to be a stud, hell I want every player with the horshoe on their head to be a stud, I am just a little worried because of what I have seen in the way he catches.

Maybe I am crazy, but I never felt that way about, Reggie, I felt he had the some growing pains that any talented WR would have. Saw great hands and route running ability an thought he would become a great tandem with Marvin. Did he have Marvins speed NO but few do or will! I think the problem with some of the rookies in the Pollian era is they played behind great players, and never found there stride with the team, or had to WAIT THERE TURN so to speak. Reggie played behind Marvins HUGE, but productive ego, and was probably the 4 or 5 option early in his career. Same happened to Hughes playing behind Freeney, an Mathis, and to a lessor extent maybe the CB Tim Jennings playing behind, Jackson & Hayden! Just off the top of my head. I wasn't on this site at that time might have been fun arguing   the point!

I'm not a big fan of body catches either but it drives me insane when catchable balls

hit the turf. Moncrief has caught almost, if not all balls thrown his way thus far.

He will learn to catch the ball with his hands. He's around a few good pros( #87 & #13) and should put the work in with the jug machine.

What do you think his ceiling and floor is?

I think his ceiling is a more athletic version of Demaryius Thomas.

At worst I think he is a guy who is a great redzone weapon, but doesn't play consistently and only flashes potential. Maybe a Dwayne Bowe.

I think Hakeem Nicks is his ceiling.  Nicks from 2-3 years ago.  Solid receiver.

he made a great hands catch in 1 on 1 coverage with the nice little lob around the 2,great body control also, was first ruled out but after review was a catch,i was at the game near the endzone where it happened,he was smooth to his routes all day, made a few body catches going over the middle but sometimes that's expected so the ball is not exposed and defender has last second to try and make a play on it also.

This catch??? I thought it was a body catch from memory and that sure looks like it is going to be a body catch to me.

He's going up for the ball and the ball is coming down. The trajectory makes it pretty difficult to try and catch it any other way.

What Moncrief displayed with this catch is excellent body control and lack of body control is one of the main reasons why DHB is a terrible receiver.
