Bears Colts predictions

This week the Colts take their top 32 defense back home, where facing a rookie QB and a non elite running back they hold the bears to a measley 120 yards on the ground and a less than stellar 68% completion rate for the rookie as he struggles to achieve 75% typically afforded by our defense.....The Colts win 30-29 in a nail biter as AR completes passes to more of our receivers than to the opponent this time.....in a karma-tic twist of fate Kenny Moore goes down with injury to complete the highlight that fans know best, our secondary was thin and suspect after all.... the sarcasm will continue until we look like the team we were sold on.....I knew predicting a 9-8 season was too optimistic shakin my head ......

Flying up from Texas for this game, been tradition for my group of friends(some Bears fans from Illinois) to attend when our teams play each other reg or preseason. Flight+game ticket weren’t cheap, definitely going to hurt even more if they get stomped again. At least the tailgating will be fun.

Soft zones make any NFL QB look like a star. Our DC who shall not be named is the author of this old and outdated form of defense and needs to look in the mirror and see how he can change and make this defense better. When we came into the season everyone thought the run defense would be a strength but its been the downfall two weeks in a row. The offense has its own issues but this defense is laughable and believe me I hear it from my friends all over the country

That sounds like a great tradition! Wish our team showed some glimmers of hope that would make you believe your trip is worthwhile. Enjoy the travel and quality time with friends, those are the memories that matter when it’s all said and done! :)

It's not that the Colts won't win, it's that the Colts don't know how to win. For years, the problem has been the same structural problem with the Colts. Ballard seems to have gone to the Grigson School of General Football Management (who must have learned from Matt Millen), and Steichen hasn't learned the lessons of Reich and Pagano. It doesn't matter who the people are if you don't know how to win the game.

The beautiful thing about a new week early in the season is that the narrative about the Colts can change quickly with a solid performance on Sunday. I've been surprised by what we've seen so far and I hope to be surprised again, this time in a positive way, this Sunday. Let's see an angry Colts team take out their frustration against the Bears. Grr!

The Colts should win this, but honestly, I don't really care if they win or lose right now. I just want them to play a lot better than last week. I can stomach a loss if we play good football, but just get slightly outplayed. What I really don't want to see is another stumbling, bumbling mess of a game from the Colts.

Bears have an elite defense. Scored 2 TDs against the Titans and held the Texans to 19 points. Caleb Williams has been struggling in the first two games, but he'll break out against us IMO, as all QBs do. The Bears RB core of Swift, Herbert, and Johnson will run for over 150 yards against us, and Caleb Williams will have his best game so far in his career and throw for 250 yards and two tds.

We're really good at boosting confidence in backup or struggling QBs.  So I expect this to be the Caleb Williams coming out party.

If Malik Willis can have a good day against us, then any QB that is in the NFL is capable of having a good day and beating us. Bears weakness is the O-Line, which is why Williams is struggling. If we get pressure, we can win. If not, then Caleb will have his breakout game Vs us.

I've made my piece with the D being what it is.  I expect soft coverage on 3rd downs, letting the other team convert.  Now I'm even accepting it takes us an entire half to figure out how to stop the run.  I've given up on Ballard bringing anyone in to help, and I'm going to live with the Gus scheme, as rudimentary and archaic as it is.

I'm more concerned about the offense.  I'd like to see AD get on the same page with AR.  I want to see them utilize JT in space (they were getting there last week until they forgot about him in the 4th Q).  I'd like to see Pitt more involved in the gameplan as a possession receiver.  And I'm hoping Downs sparks a fire.

I'll live with AR being inaccurate as long as we see continual progress.  I've said this before - it's obvious Ballard is not in Win Now mode or he would have spent some of that cap to bring in help.  So I'm resigned to this being a season to figure out if we have a franchise QB or not.

It's a shame the rest of the team has to go along with that, but I guess Jim and Ballard want it that way.

Are we going to me Williams look like a superstar on Sunday? Can we hold a team under 200 yards rushing? How many Colts fans will sell their tickets to Bears fans?

There is no reason to be optimistic with the way this team has played but we can hope we can get a win at home this Sunday

FYI, your thread was merged.

Did we offer Danielle Hunter more money than he got from Texas?

It was reported as so. He got $49M for 2 years. That would show being More than willing to spend. Who else did we try to get?

If we got Hunter would we have drafted a corner #1?

  Such is life.

With Buck most likely out this Sunday its going to put a lot of pressure on Stewart and the D line to avoid another embarrassing outcome. I know Bradley is not going away soon (who can replace him at this point) but you would think he will have come up with better schemes than letting us get bullied on the line and playing 7-10 yards off the ball. Not to mention this is about pride for the D line players to see if they can raise their level of play. This only only talking about the defense the offense has its own problems

Most likely not.

I would bet yes, but definitely trying to trade back to do it. There were at least a couple high quality prospects available.

And of course I threw the possibility out there because the poster said Ballard did not try to spend some of our cap space to help the team, and his next whine would have been it should have been used on the secondary.

 But you get that.

Do we really need to rehash this again?  There are probably hundreds of posts saying the same thing.

To sum up, we knew our young CBs are inexperienced and relatively slow (hence the soft coverage).  We knew Blackmon and Juju have injury histories.  On the whole, we knew the DBs were young.

Forget Hunter, the pass rush is good enough.  There were a half dozen CBs and S's we could have brought in that would not break the bank.  They would add experience and competition at the very least.

Yes, that group doesn't seem to be the real problem now.  Even though we've already lost a starter for the year.  But adjusting the game plan to stop the pass (against Houston) exposed the run defense.  Apparently they laid out a pretty good picture for GB too.  Even though the D didn't give up a lot of points, it did give up a lot of time of possession in both games.

That's why I said I'm resigned to seeing it for what it is, and not expecting much this season.  And apparently the front office isn't too concerned either.

In a trade back, maybe two? Maybe he goes corner in the first round. At #15? Definitely not. JMO.

To the rest of your post, I agree.

- Bears punish us on the ground.

- Allen goes crazy but we keep the others in check

- AR throws a pick, throws a touchdown and run for one also, throws 20 times

- JT gets 30 carries 100 yds

- AD coming out game

So you got them either missing a XP or going for 2? The Bears have a awful OL but I doubt we blitz much.

and bears ol isn’t great but we’re playing like trash and they just went toe to toe with the Texans

I wouldn’t say that Texans left a lot of yards and points off the field. It’s more what the Texans did then what the Bears did.

    • imo shane tends to over manage at times, just let them play basic football
    • RIP didn’t he get a FO job as well?
    • Oh contrare, I’d say it says more about Shane Steichen’s skill set as a coach.
    • Excerpt from an article at NFL.com …     ”… One player the Colts can lean on while Richardson gets his sea legs: running back Jonathan Taylor. After last year's hold-in and injury issues, the star running back looks back to his old self. JT bursts through the line like a Mustang on fire, leaving linebackers in his wake. On Sunday, Taylor totaled 12 carries for 103 yards and +55 rushing yards over expected, his most RYOE in a game since Week 15 of 2021. He also forced five missed tackles across 14 touches.    Shane Steichen's decision to bench the star back during the entire fourth quarter because the Colts were in pass mode belies credibility. Even if Taylor isn't a prolific pass catcher out of the backfield, sitting your best offensive weapon for an entire quarter is folly -- hopefully one Steichen doesn't repeat. If defenses are going to sit back to slow Richardson's deep attack, Taylor should gobble up chunk gains.    At this point, Taylor is the most consistent thing going for Indy. The 25-year-old back owns a game-changing gear and can shoulder a massive load. His presence and production should help settle Richardson down during the roller-coaster dips. Taylor hasn't looked fully healthy in a couple of years. He did this past Sunday. The Colts need to ride that stallion.”     The above referenced article kind of echoes my feelings on the matter.
