Flacco to Indy

He is a statue but he also is smart and knows how to win. I would trust him to win a couple of games if AR is out. We are getting him for cheap as well and needed a solid backup, Sam wasn't it. A lot of the media had the Browns going to the AFC Title Game before the playoffs started with him in there. I am not sure why anyone would complain about this.Homer Reaction GIF by MOODMAN

Yeah, I wonder if they would have preferred a more mobile backup as their first option. Even someone who can move as much as Minshew, compared to Flacco who, even in his prime, moved like cold guacamole.

But the Browns made it work last year, going from Watson, to Walker, to DTR, to Flacco. The Colts kind of made it work with Minshew. And if you want a QB who can keep the offense moving for a couple weeks when needed, he's good enough. If he has to play longer than that, you're probably in trouble.

What he really brings is professionalism, pedigree, and a good example for the rest of the offense, and Richardson specifically. In the film room, in meetings, weekly preparation, etc., his example -- not necessarily one on one mentoring and coaching, that's not his job -- can benefit Richardson tremendously. He wasn't really on my radar, and I hope everything above the $4.5m guaranteed is playing time incentives, but I think it's a good addition all the way around. Even if it's not the absolute ideal from a physical standpoint.

You basically nailed why I believe Flacco was signed. His peak value is probably around playing 2-3 games tops and everything he brings off the field. I don’t want to call last years success luck bc the Colts earned it and it was very impressive. However, if AR misses extensive time again I highly doubt we come out with a winning record. This signing is all about grooming AR and having a really good chance to win 2-3 games if called upon.

This... I immediately thought how great this signing was because of his mentorship. But he absolutely doesn't even need to see the field next year. I'm actually surprised the amount of texts from my buddies asking me if I "really think Flacco is he answer?" "Oh he's so old, you aren't going anywhere."  AR was definently forgotten last year.

I simply remind them, after next months drafts when all those QB's get drafted AR will still be younger than almost all of them.

The idea of this signing is hoping AR plays all 17 games but if he doesn't, we know we have a guy that can win a game or 2 in a pinch. Flacco is old but he is equateable to Minshew at this point. Sam isn't even close to either of those guys.

Initially I was like whhhaaattt, but then I sat with it and it doesn’t seem so bad. If AR goes down we’re climbing uphil any way, atleast Flacco will be fun to watch.

Go Colts.

Flacco moves pretty well in the pocket and can throw on the run

Love it. But Flacco should know that this is where aging vet QBs go to end their careers. So maybe he just knows it time.

It also allows me to post the dancing Flacco raven, which is one of the best ESPN graphics of all time:

Depends on which Flacco you get. The CLE version was probably similar (though Minshew already knew the scheme), but Flacco was pretty bad with the NYJ the year before.

Great signing.  The team needed a backup that can play well and win games,  It makes losing Minshew nearly insignificant.   With AR, a good backup is needed.  Until AR proves otherwise, it was a must.

Obviously it doesn’t matter what I think, but was hoping for Tyrod Taylor or a player similar to him. At least the play calling would be similar as the offense wouldn’t change dramatically.

Yeah, and that would help the other players on offense also.

2006, you've been around here long enough to know that anything the FO does you should be able by now to know the guys that will disagree. I sure you're not surprised!

For the most part, I have to say the Forum seems pretty happy, they, like me would like 1 more good player added to the Secondary. The big guy we signed from Mami is a monster, he is better than average and gives us depth. I am pretty pleased we were able to bring back all 4 in Moore, Grover, Lewis, and Pittman with not much of a problem. I was worried we would lose either Grover or Moore. Flacco was just needed just in case AR does go down again. Glad Rigo is back too.

Yeah I was looking for something more mobile. Flacco is not that. I'm not sure if he could repeat last year again but oh well at least he can give AR a few tips along with the plus of having had Lamar Jackson and Deshaun Watson around him.

Okay so he played for the Baltimore Ravens who used to be the Cleveland Browns. Then he played for the new Cleveland Browns and now he's playing for the Colts who used to be in Baltimore before the Browns/Ravens. Interesting.

Love the signing! I didn’t want minshew back at all. When I saw Flacco playing with the browns, I thought why didn’t the colts sign him instead of minshew. I was thinking he retired and was done with football. Richardson will learn a lot from him! They both have big arms and Flacco can help him learn how to complete passes down field. I didn’t see anything minshew could help him with! The colts have a good line and running game, I think the colts can win if he has to play qb as long as they don’t keep trying the rpo if he is playing.

I like the signing, especially after having lost Minshew to the Raiders. If Flacco is forced to play as many games as Gardner was, we're screwed anyway but Joe is a seasoned veteran who won a Superbowl as a starting QB, and the knowledge he can offer AR in that respect could be invaluable.

if he is forced to play, you just have to adjust the offense to more rushing, play action passing, and keeping a te in to block on passing plays. If the colts get a te that can block, like I have said they need, they have the pieces to be successful playing with Flacco.

Not crazy about it but don't mind it. Flacco is a professional passer that can rise up in big games as he showed in a playoff run resulting in a Super Bowl championship. The opposite of skill set to AR5 is not appealing but you can't have everything.

Hope he's not needed but if he is he's showed he can do the job.

Flacco will help AR in pre-read defenses and to make quick decisions. Tom Brady has always said that Coaches plays chess and the QB has to react to the plays given, which leads most of them to run. Flacco like Rivers has learned how to react to bad play calls and will teach AR.

    • I would personally like to see more bootlegs, and more throws on the run. AR is SO good at that.   Especially since they love playing out of shotgun so much.
    • Army is playing mistake free football, very impressive so far. One of a handful of unbeaten Group of 5 schools.

    • Once again running out time to put out a complete list of both offense and defensive players and where I have them ranked among their peers.  Common theme from original pre-college Week 1 many of the top players are not even listed or have fallen sharply after around 4 weeks of playing.    2025 NFL Draft QBs Cam Ward - Miami (FL) - Ward’s 3x300 games in a row have earned him 3-straight 90.0+ passing grades.  Jaxson Dart (MISS)  Diego Pavia (Vandy) - after 4 weeks and is R2 in the SEC ahead of Ewers, Manning, Milroe, Nussmeier, and Carson Beck.  Thrown 6 TDs no INTs, recovered 3 teammate fumbles. Ben Wooldridge (Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns) Noah Fiftia (Arizona)  KJ Jefferson (UCF) Tyler Shough (Louisville)  Cam Miller (NDST) Kyle McCord (Syracuse)   2025 NFL Draft OL LG Michael McAninch (Air Force) - After 3 weeks has a 91.7 overall season grade with a 92.4 RB grade.  Proved he can hold up to Baylor didn’t allow any QB pressure. RT Tyler Needham (Rutgers) 6’4” 306-pounds – After 3 weeks been dominant.  On 48 PB snaps only given up 1 QB hurry. LT/RT/OG Grey Zabel (North Dakota State) RT Lucas Scott (Army) 6’3” 305-pounds – After 3 weeks has an 85.2 RB grade.  Figure the Army trains more hand-to-hand combat and could be decent in PB game as well. LG Joshua Gray (Oregon State) LG Donovan Jackson (OSU) - good to see Jackson play again and display his dominance in his return to action. OT Wyatt Milum (West Virginia) RG Luke Kandra (Cincinnati) RG Tate Ratledge (Georgia LT Kelvin Banks Jr (Texas) LG Dylan Fairchild (Georgia) LT Percy Lewis (Auburn) 6’7” 355-pounds – After 4 weeks on 85 snaps has a 78.5 grade as a backup.
