As an AB owner in fantasy, I hope either of these things happens. As a Colts fan, I hope either of these things happen. I need him to go somewhere with a competent QB and as far away from the Colts as possible.

He wants a new contract

Man, that's a lot to ask for. For a team to acquire him, they have to give away a draft pick (relatively high), and sign him to a fairly big contract, with out seeing how he performs on their team.

Risky.

Hell of a football player but I'm glad he won't be with the Steelers anymore. He always torched us.

I can't get past the fact AB costs the Steelers 21 million if he leaves, and 22 million if he stays.  There seems to be no financial impetus to move him. And Pittsburgh has not granted AB and his agent permission to negotiate with other teams. Only the Steelers are sending out feelers at this time.  If/when they allow Drew Rosenhaus to negotiate a deal, then I believe he will truly be 'gone'.

His contract is the biggest issue

Yup, and the fact he wants massive guaranteed money in his new contract, too.

I think they're just wanting to rid themselves of prima donna's and distractions and to them, its worth not gaining anything financially to move on from him and bell.

I can see them just letting Bell go at this point, yet I still hear rumblings of them using the 'Transition' tag.  IMO, they should forget the tag tender and just move on and get that 3rd round comp pick for losing him in 2020.

Brown is different.  He is under a contract extension recently offered and signed.  They can't let a guy quit on the team at the end of the season, then demand a trade (carrying massive dead cap hit) without any reasonable compensation.

I'd be a bonehead GM on this. (So I'm very glad I'm not one!) If a decent deal isn't worked out, I'd keep him and fine him daily when he doesn't show up to camp. If he eventually shows but causes distractions, I'd put him 3rd string (for reps) and make him a healthy scratch each game.  It costs the club about the same amount of money whether he's on or off (cut/traded) the team.  So he can be treated like he was traded/cut and not be on the sidelines game day.  If he suffers any type football injury that is more than a few weeks recovery, then I'd IR him straight away. No return.

I just feel the way Bell went about business and Brown's method aren't even comparable.  I have some compassion for Bell's situation, little to none for Mr. Big Chest.  And no AB, clubs with big guarantee $$ can't ring your cell. It's called tampering. And your social media items concern me about your stability... if you know what I mean.

He met with Art Rooney and they both agreed it's time to move on. I think that's concrete enough to think that AB will not play for them.

Yeah, according to him {Has Art Rooney II been interviewed yet? I bet he wants a certain price to pull off a deal}  Presently, Brown and Rosenhaus can't pursue clubs for trades//contracts. Oh, Brown probably won't play regardless...   but that doesn't mean he wont be on the team (sort of, see above).  Steelers control his situation more than the Bell fiasco.  Teams are not in the business of letting good/great talent leave without compensation for no reason. Let's see how it goes down.

The Raiders did want to pay the best LB/pass rusher a lot of money with a fat up front bundle, doubt highly they give up a #1 for this guy. The Packers could use him, but again him wanting a new fat contract with the worst liked agent won't help him either.,

The Steelers will be lucky if they are able to get that 2nd round pick from the Cardinals because it is not just AB they are getting, they are getting the whole package.

But then, IF, a big IF, Big Ben steps up to the plate and apologizes for calling AB out in public and being the drama queen and does some reconciliation, there is a chance AB is back with the Steelers because, unlike LeVeon, he won't sit out and keep losing money knowing the PR damage he has done to himself already.

  • 2 weeks later...

I would look at teams with multiple first rd picks available. Normally I would say look out for Oakland but they doesn’t fit their time line nor money issues. Green Bay but again they don’t spend a lot or money. Some reason Minnesota seems to keep coming to my mind. Pair with Cousins...maybe move a lb or someone else from that defense in return. 49ers make most sense I agree..I think NFC is most likely.

Looks like there is only one team left for brown. Everyone else the price for to high.

Just one?  It seems Steelers are trying to increase interest and drive up the market. Of all teams that have (or had) interest (Cardinals, Jets, Raiders, Titans, Packers, 49ers and Redskins) I keep hearing 3 teams are still in play (Raiders, Redskins, and Titans) and Steelers want best offers submitted quickly as the expect to have a deal in place by Friday.

Why Friday, though? From my understanding, the Steelers have until March 16 to trade Brown and avoid paying him a $2.5 million roster bonus. And the Steelers cannot formally execute a trade of Brown until after 4 p.m. on March 13 anyway.

It appears Cardinals and Jets have definitely dropped out, and I can't find much to support any Packers or 49'ers interest at this point.  I guess we'll see Friday?
