Rousing Rabble

Boards are kinda quiet tonight.  So I think I'll try my hand at agitating the masses.  Ready?

Colts parted ways with Jonathan Hankins and Rashaad Melvin because they don't fit in the new defensive scheme.

Colts are using a new defensive scheme because of new DC Matt Eberflus.

Matt Eberflus was hired by Josh McDaniels.

Josh McDaniels backed out of being HC before he was signed.

In short, the Colts parted ways with two of their better players because of a guy who was never with the team.

Kraft and McD are sitting on a veranda laughing at us.  McD says " we did it, boss...we switched them to the 4-3.  It worked just like you said it would".  "Of course, my boy.  Now if I can get Bill to convince someone to leapfrog the Colts and grab Chubb, we are all set.  Tom, wipe my glasses off, son, will you?"

Booth shot Lincoln in a theater and ran to a warehouse

Oswald shot Kennedy from a warehouse and ran to a theater

Therfore McDaniels was responsible for killing Kevin Bacon

They were both succeeded by a Johnson, not a McDaniels- even if he does have Bacon for breakfast...

Actually, I beleive they parted ways because of monetary reasons as much as any other reasons. If they played for like $2 million per like Desir does I'm pretty sure Hankins and Melvin would still be here.

I'd actually feed into the fun and help raise hysteria if I wasn't super excited about Eberflus.

I actually liked the McDaniels potential hire 50% for his offensive scheming and 50% for the fact we were getting Eberflus by getting McDaniels.

He was a legit rising prospect and he would have been a DC in Dallas soon if not somewhere else had we not landed him.

So I for one was stoked that we kept him despite McDaniels backing out.

If Eberflus is helping Ballard construct a defense in the image that they want it and Melvin and Hankins do not fit that mold (or if they fit it but not for the cost they would have carried to be here), then I am actually all for them going to greener pastures elsewhere.

It is unfortunate that David Irving was tagged at a second round level because he is a guy I think we would have chased and paid for if he wouldn't have cost that high of a price in pick compensation to sign away from Dallas. Hopefully we can find a similar gem in this year's draft instead.

"Of course my boy. And with Chubb already agreeing he won't sign with the Colts at his pro day...we just need to set up meetings with Fitzpatrick, James, Edmunds, Smith and Nelson. On second thought, set up a Skype conference and we can knock it all out at once."

In a perfect world, (meaning if what we need is available when we need it) RT with a round 2 pick and a couple guards round 4 and beyond that could be developed........the talent in this years draft isn't there to do that but that would be the way I would like to see it go down.....so based on what is actually there.....maybe a G in the 2nd round....and a G, RT round 3-5 range.

Why not get the best OL talent in the draft? I for one am tired of leading the league in sacks allowed.

If our only legit choice is G, I can live with it, but in principle I don't want to draft a guard with the 6th pick when it will take hopefully a really long time before we are this high in the draft again....I would rather have a difference maker on offense or defense with that pick than a guy in the trenches.....plenty of good guards in the 2nd round.

Unfortunately just good, servicable, etc has gotten our qb knocked out for nearly 2 seasons, and all the other bad that has happened. We have a difference maker taking snaps, we need him to continue doing so. I see what you re saying and the apprehension though.

Why do we want to continuely play around with our oline buy just making it "Serviceable".  If we the opportunity to take a OG many have said to be one of the best in 10 years....go for it.  Our money maker is Andrew Luck and a good running game.

    • I almost spit my coffee out reading this a few times, lol!  I love sarcasm and I especially love it when there is some truth to it!  Well played Sir!
    • I guess the whole question is the merits of the report. You report on his diabetes with tons of guesses and speculations and WITHOUT taking the side of the person who's been affected here and who's living and dealing with that condition. You report on the player being uncoachable WITHOUT taking the opinion of his coaches about being coachable or not(and BTW from what I've heard both from Colts and Texas coaches, this is resoundingly NOT TRUE). You report about him being immature and honestly, everything I've seen on the surface suggests the opposite. You report about his combine performance by giving it a pretty harsh reading(the video is in this thread and the account of what happened by McGinn is in this thread... People can actually go and look at what happened and make their own mind about whether the characterization of that workout was fair or not. I will just say you can represent the player stumbling in a drill and going again in various different ways and McGinn chose a specific way to represent it. It was the most negative way you could choose).    You know I had my own reservations about that outburst by Ballard at the presser, but the more I'm learning about Mitchell the more I actually believe in what Ballard was saying and the less merit those reports have in my mind. Maybe I have my own unconscious biases too, now that I have vested interest in Mitchell actually being good for us. I don't know     I guess ultimately none of it matters. AD's success or failure won't depend on some pre-draft reports... it will depend on how he handles himself from now on, how hard he works, his drive to be great and our staff's ability to get the best of him.
    • if he is healthy and they make the playoffs in spite of, say, Houston being the 1 or 2 seed in a loaded afc, you think Irsay would contemplate firing him? That would mean we took another step forward and AR proved he could stay healthy and play ball. I don’t see his seat being hot in that scenario at all. I see the organization being fired up with that and ready to hit the offseason hard to take the next step forward.
