Forgot all about Hughes..... Man, seriously forgot about Hughes

Quarles had a good game Sunday

It's getting easier to forget about Hughes because it never seems like he's making plays.  Sometimes it's hard to tell with the D line though. He could be doing his job and I just haven't noticed.

Yeah I think I might like the little rotation between Quarles, Jean Francois, Kerr, and I suppose Hughes as well.

Yeah they say on defense when your name isn't being called you're usually doing your job but that usually only applies to DB's

We're supposed to hear you on the defensive line and LB's

You watch a Texans game and they talk about JJ Watt more than the game itself haha

You got a point though.  You can always tell when Redding, Art Jones, Kerr, and Chapman are doing their jobs. It's usually pretty clear!

Hughes had some plays against the Jags. He only got 14 snaps, but I thought he controlled his man well, and he was part of a pretty good run stop.

I saw some flashes last year so I know the ability is there.  I just haven't been able to tell one way or the other this year, but of course it is early.  Overall I like him though so I'll keep a closer watch.

Well, we are carrying 7 DL right now.  There is no place to put him without cutting a DL or cutting a LB.  Guy was productive in his time here, and borderline disruptive.  You'd think we'd have preferred him over Quarles if the timing had been different.  However, not only might we like Quarles better at this point, but he isn't waivable for 2 more weeks since we signed him from NE's practice squad.  The other option is to grab him now and cut Carter or Harvey if they feel like Guy is a long term guy.

Shake all that around, and it looks like something else would have to change before signing Guy is a realistic possibility.

Im all for cutting Harvey for Guy, Doyle and Allen have handled the job of H-Back well enough, If we need an ILB down the road just bring A Jackson up from the PS

I wouldn't mind seeing that. Cause I'd hate to cut the new guys for him. I think with Jackson Jason and McNary, runs stoppers law firm. I think Freeman and Muamba is better out in coverage. So Harvey doesn't show me anything that can't be replaced by the firm or our te's.

I really hated seeing Guy leave at the time.  That said, who do you want to release?  Nobody on our defensive front IMO.

I love the Quarles signing.  He really carried the Gamecocks.  Good to see some pressure in his first game.

I think I had a 'quarrel' with somebody when we were talking about DL pre-draft ....I hope he improves with the help of Art Jones and Corey Redding!! :blueshoe:  :blueshoe:  :blueshoe:

    • So damn classy as always. I still rewatch their pandemic golf game from 2020. They just have awesome chemistry together. Hopefully they can get Tom on the Manningcast again for more hilarity.
    • Uuuugh.     I think it would’ve been better if I had preached a healthy dose of patience and NOT patients.
    • Feel the need to clarify something.   The writer of the article, Bob McGinn, is one of the top-10 football writers there is.  (Milwaukee Journal Sentinel) McGinn does NOT have an opinion on Mitchell.  It’s the unnamed scouts who have the negative opinions.  McGinn is quoting them which is his job.  He is supposed to do that.     Ballard even acknowledged that in his own way.  He literally said “put your name on it!”   Well, McGinn’s name IS on it.  it’s his column.   But it’s the scouts who are saying things anonymously.   If there’s an issue, (if) it’s with them, not McGinn.
    • And when/if a team signs one of those safeties they’ll be made to look like a genius while Ballard is called a fool.    I think what’s more likely is that an injury will inevitably happen and a team will bring in an available free agent. That could be training camp. That could early in the season. You just never know.
    • But if the Colts sign someone next week or the week after then it really doesn’t matter.    I would’ve preferred we sign some two weeks ago.   Get them familiar with the DC and position coach.   But once we didn’t then it really doesn’t matter when.  It just matters that we do it before camp opens.  At least to me.    And the fact no one else is signing these top FA safeties tells me the market just isn’t there yet.   I’m preaching a healthy dose of patients.
