A few thoughts:

  • Congratulations Jeff.
  • Got off to a quick 10 point start because LVR game-planned for the wrong starting QB.
  • Need to call more zone-blocked up the gut runs to JT....they can be good for 66 yarders. (when they are blocked properly)
  • What maroon calls a screen pass near our own goal line?  But since Ryan is a better QB than Wentz, it didn't result in a pick.
  • Oline should continue to improve as Raimann improves...a strong correlation.  Second half of the season trending up.
  • Nice block punt to help the O.
  • D finally got a stop when it needed it.
  • Kicking the extra points?  Media will probably bring it up.

Not gonna read to far into this, we beat a team with a worse record. Now if they can win against a team with a better record that will be a start, not trying to be pessimistic but cautious. We had Bradley who knows the offensive players, there defense is worse in the league and multiple Star players on IR, heck they prepared for Sam E. But Ryan played, there’s tape out on the new playcaller so teams will look at his tendencies going forward.

The Good:
-   Interesting it was the offense who carried the day.

-   Parks!

-   Jeff!

-   The Oline!… wait, what?

-   Campbell!

-   JT!!

-   Matt got wheels!

The Bad:

-   Defense was not clicking today in the second half. DBs and LBs need to run gassers in practice.
-   We REALLY miss Paye when he’s out.
-   Keke Coutee…

-   Matt on that sack.

-   Chase on the missed FG.

Matt Ryan is still good, especially if the line protects him like they did today.

welcome back Jonathan Taylor!

Reggie needs to work with Pittman on protecting the ball.

Get Coutee off this team.

Line may have played their best game of the season.  Granted the Raiders dline isn’t much to write home about but I’ll take what I can get from the line at this point.

Its one game vs a bad team but Parks did a really nice job calling plays.  I know the national story will be Saturday wins but I think the biggest change was going from Frank’s extremely predictable offense to Park being an unknown.  As teams learn him it will be interesting to see how he does but you can only judge him on what he’s done and today he was good.  He does need to work on his two point calls I didn’t like those.

I was not a fan of whatever Gus was doing on defense today.  Way too much playing off and depending on guys to make a tackle and then missing the tackle or slipping.  Inexcusable to let Adams get matched up on a linebacker or safety as often as he did.  They finally got Gilmore on him at the end without being half a football field off and all he did was win the game for them.

Can this defense buy a turnover please?

Bobby O’s made a huge play at the goalline and continues to have a good season.

Without Kwity this pass rush is not good and the run defense is only average.

Special teams hasn’t been playing as well the last couple of weeks.

I am hoping the wheels aren’t coming off for Chase after he played so well early in the year.

crazy week and the Colts gutted out a win.  They aren’t quitting and still playing hard.  Hopefully Saturday can maintain that.

Always nice to beat McBackoutniels.

Raiders may be more dysfunctional rhen colts so not reading too much into this but Parks Frazier looked good calling plays. Kept things simple which helped. Fries was so good run blocking today.

Donr thibk to much of our oline in protection because raiders are almost last in creating pressure. But it looked better.

Chase still hit two 48 yarders. Not going to hold missing  one against him.

Yes, there is reason to be optimistic, excited and cautious all at the same time after today. Yes, LV has their issues, but every team does; and saying “oh well they have a worse record and injured players and such” isn’t an excuse for a victory or a defeat. The team is obviously playing different on offense, and felt more in sync outside of a few plays here and there. Some teams that should have won today lost, and some struggled against teams they shouldn’t struggled so much against. We didn’t have Leonard or Paye for a good chunk of the game today. LV won’t use that as an excuse why they lost.

Let the team and Jeff enjoy this without throwing too much of a wet blanket on things.

Good:

-  playcalling on offense was overall good.  Nice and balanced.  Didn’t ask Ryan to do too much.  Leaned on our workhorse running back.  Receivers made plays.

- Saturday:  way to stay cool and keep the course.  Every time it looked like we were done, he kept his cool and kept this team focused.  Team for once looked prepared.

- JT:  kudos to Frazier for keeping him involved.  He was averaging 4.2 before his big run but tbh that’s all we need.  Keep pounding the rock.  Keep the defense honest, and they’ll break eventually.  He looked good in pass pro too.

- PC:  see what happens when he gets into space?  That td looked like him on his OSU highlight tape.

- Buck and Grove:  they continue to control the middle.

- Gilmore:  Game.  That’s all.

Meh

- Ryan:  good job at managing the game but he made some bad decisions.  Taking the sack when the flat was there.  Some missed or bad throws.  But overall, meh performance.  He made up for his bad decisions and kept us in a winning situation.

- Pittman:  would’ve been good if it wasn’t for another fumble.  Not sure what’s going on with his ball security this year but we can’t keep letting this happen from our number one receiver.  Saturday needs to give him a ball and he has to walk around with it all week

- defense:  defense played ok but that pass defense was very soft.  Couldn’t get a pass rush once Paye went out.  But they made stops when it counted.

Bad

- Haack:  what the Haack was that.  Had one good punt all game.

- extra point playcalling:  after the first failed 2pt conversion, should’ve just kicked the rest of the game.  Saturday gotta learn that lesson today.  If we played a better team, those points might’ve costed us the game.

- pass rush:  when Paye went out, we couldn’t do anything.  Ngakoue has been bad and odengbo has too.  Buck can’t do much when he’s getting doubled and Grover isn’t really the pass rush specialist.
