Brissett is not terrible, but he is not that good. Top 20 in this league please. One thing that will get tested if Luck doesn’t play this year is that wonderful locker room culture. Here is looking forward to 2021 if Luck doesn’t play. Let the end of the year song play

HAD A BAD DAY.

My vote made it 27/27.

I feel like if there was a third option that was just the  :dunno:  emoji, it would have gotten the overriding majority of votes...  :funny:

It seems like there's just not enough evidence to make an educated guess either way, so this poll is basically "Who are the optimists and who are the pessimists?"

It's the same as a poll asking who will win the Colts/Chargers game.  It's just an educated guess.

I base my "no" vote, not off pessimism, but off of the length of time this injury has hung around.   Since March or April, right?    3 weeks may not heal it.   Of course, he would have to have some live action before the first game and that could lead to aggravating it again.

But, it is just a guess.

I agree with a lot of what you say, but 11-5 without Luck isn't happening, unless they shut out most of the teams they play.....  Brissett is terrible and so is Walker.  Kelly may be serviceable.  We better have a top 5 running game if Luck is out, otherwise 8 - 8 may be the best we could do.

We get it you really don’t like Jacoby. But the dude was 3rd rounder.

I think that it is more frustrating to think how long they knew about this and how he could have undergone surgery in the offseason to fix this. Instead, they wait til preseason starts to say, "HEY! HE MIGHT NEED SURGERY!" When by now, he could have been fully recovered.

I was expecting alot from Luck this season and I want him to be healthy so he can whoop Tom Bradys butt before he retires so we can get revenge. Now that window is getting smaller and all we will remember is how Luck was 0-7 against the Patriots.

To be fair they have not said anything about surgery. It’s been the exact opposite.

Who knows really?

Best case: Luck heals and is fine for the year.

Worse case: This lingers and the Colts fall behind in standings.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Kelly worked his way into the backup role, although Ballard said they liked Brissett.

Even if they lose Luck for a game or two, if he returns week 3 completely healed, (and they are 1-1 or even 0-2, they’ll be fine.

Chris has created competition at position except QB. With this looking more and more like a long lost season (JB is not that good). I think it is a very good time to spend a high draft pick on a QB in this next draft. That will do two things. Give the Colts stability at the QB position whether Luck is there or not. Take the pressure off of Luck. The body can only take so many hits. And unfortunately Chris (no fault to him) may have been a little too late in building a team around him. The team is here. But Luck may be damage beyond repair (once this is repaired, something else is wrong or broken every year it’s something different).

JB is a 3rd QB at best. PW is not any better. With those two and no Andrew. The Colts  will be picking in the top 5 in the next draft easy

Half of the teams in the NFL don't have a quality quarterback and you think the Colts should have two?

Brissett played with the swiss cheese OL so don't write him off. Also, he has every motivation to play well so when he goes on the free agent market he can demand more money.  I saw this morning the Colts are given only a 36% chance of beating the Chargers with Luck. I don't get that at all playing LA or in Indy.

How do two "specialists" misdiagnose an ankle injury for a calf problem. It was said today the third specialist called the ankle as the problem.

I hope so but do not think he will.

You know, people keep saying something like “there’s no reason to believe he will miss games.”

I’d say the reality is the opposite:  there’s no reason to believe he won’t miss games.  You have to consider what happens if the status quo persists.

He’s not physically able to play football right now.  And there is no reliable prognosis.

Let’s not fall into the trap of overvaluing Brissett.  There’s no question but that we’ve made suggestions that we’d deal him — even Irsay’s own public comments have made that clear.

So too did he basically let it slip that the prevailing market value for Jacoby was lower than what the Colts (or at least Irsay) thought it should be.

There might be a few teams where Jacoby would be competitive for a starting spot.  But no more than a few.  He’s roughly a top 6-7 #2.

Whether or not Andrew plays in any particular game I plan on rooting like all H*** (as much as humanly possible ) to win that particular game whether Andrew plays or not …...My dad PREACHED to me for decades ……"You root for the team as a whole and NEVER any one particular player "

I voted yes. I still stick by what I have said all along, he will play opening day. If not I will admit I was wrong. Until he misses a regular season game I am still not overly worried about this. The whole thing is just annoying at this point reading about his injury and how some of the fans in here bad mouth our team.

Luck is reportedly throwing and doing walk throughs with the offense.  Last year he was hardly hit with our new OL.  That's a plus.  Reich's offense has him getting rid of the ball earlier.  That's also a plus.  With three weeks to go and with more rest and rehab and if our OL is healthy and ready to start then I can see him starting game one.  He has already said the pain he is feeling would not prevent him from starting the season.  A lot of healing can take place in three weeks.

He needs to be on the practice field in 2 weeks, otherwise he's not playing. The Colts brass won't use precaution & keep him out of practice where he's not even allowed to be hit, only to throw him to the wolves week 1 with no full speed practice reps under his belt. Reich said he wants him to have a week of full team drills etc before he plays. So if he's not out there by September 1, or before, you can count on him missing the regular season opener.

its unfortunate about luck. if they didnt commit to him playing week one  i doubt he plays.  probably misses 2-3 games. its not a season killing thing the colts just have to weather the storm early.

If he misses 2-3 games, it would be against the Chargers, at the Titans and against the Falcons.  With a back up QB, we could go 0-3.  1-2 would probably be best case scenario.   With a tough schedule this year, combined with lots of teams expected to be improved, a playoff spot may be out of reach.

6 teams make the playoffs:

Patriots

Chiefs

Chargers

Ravens

Steelers

Colts

Texans

Browns

Other teams

Starting 1-2 would not cut it.

Yeah the notion that Luck can be out 3-4 games & the Colts wouldn't miss a beat is silly. We're a contender with him, & fortunate to get 8 wins without him.

And Brady was a 7th Rounder....  Round makes little difference after the 1st.  If they make the team, they should be be able to offer something by their 2nd or 3rd year.

For this team. That is one good healthy QB from going on a Super bowl run yes, exactly.

Brissett is a pretty cool guy. But he is not that good on game day and practice. 2017 I get that he was going to struggle. But in practice this year. No pass rush. He is struggling bad. Andrew before his current calf strain. Was craving that same defense up. There needs to be a major upgrade in the backup QB position

Why does everyone seriously think we are set for a Super Bowl run?

I'm hoping he plays.  The last time the Colts opened their season here in So Cal was against the Rams in 2017 were my wife and I bought tickets to watch Luck and the Colts play against the Rams.  This was before the surgery and during the pre-season they kept saying Luck will start.  Well, they started Tolzien and we lost to the Rams 9-46.  To make long story short, I hope they don't lead us to believe he will start and come first game of the season he's not.  Looking forward to going to the game.  The Chargers are a good team and I will tough to match up against them if Luck doesn't play.

Don't remind me of that game. I flew from new Zealand to Los Angeles spending $1000 on game tickets.............................

We have one of the best backup QBs in the league, IMO.

And, that said, even if Luck is 100% healthy, I don’t think we’re a Super Bowl caliber team quite yet.  Certainly headed in the right direction, though.

I voted no.  Hope I’m wrong.  Nobody knows.  Time will tell.

Thing is, for him to play something has to change between now and then.  If nothing changes, he’s not playing.

And the clock is ticking.

Change for the better is always great but he said it himself if he had to play a game in the regular season he would play

We won a playoff game last year and have improved our roster.   A Superbowl run is understandable.

One of the best backup QBs in the league? Hardly. At least not from what I saw in that first preseason game. Brissett and Walker both frankly sucked and Kelly looked pretty good playing against a bunch of guys who will probably be working in a car wash or selling life insurance come September. No, what we have are three guys who could probably take a few snaps and hand the ball off or take a knee, or possibly pick up a quarter or so in a blowout game. But if any of those three guys have to take a significant number of snaps we're going 5-11 at best.

I'm not sure why you would say this.   It's a guess either way.

If you were to bet $100 on whether Luck would play in the first regular season game or not, what would you choose?

I would say he's playing.....he's not practicing with the team right now but he's active it's not like back in 2017 when he couldn't even throw the ball like he wanted to

My apology’s, that is my opinion, based off the way this team ended last year, and I’m not talking about KC. The upgrades at talent at every position except Backup QB. And a healthy Andrew Luck. I thought this team was ready to roll. But this injury has really changed my mind

That's fair.   I'd bet my money on him not playing the first game.
