I'm probably in the minority on this one but I really hope they don't bring in Mcdaniels if I have to watch dink dunk 3 yard passes all year just shoot me now lol

Between TY, Dorsett, and Moncrief we probably have a WR trio that's top 5 in terms of speed and quickness and can get YAC. Idk about you but watching Brady do it for years and carving up defenses with whatever scrappy white guy, while not getting touched because the ball is out in under 2 seconds and giving his defense a break makes me want to do that here considering our inability to protect Luck.

you want exciting offense over all else, go watch New Orleans, 2nd in points, 1st in yards, 1st in passing yards, 16th in rushing yards.  21st of 32 in wins.

That's on the horrific defense though, offense is putting up points but defense (and PAT unit vs. Denver) deliver the L's.

Pagano's a very good man and was great to help get the Colts started again....unfortunately he may not be what's needed to get the Colts to the next level consistently.

Exactly how I feel.  I think Pagano is not a bad coach.  OTOH, he is not a GOOD coach either.  The issue is, a poor replacement makes us worse off than before.  Mr. Irsay, if he is indeed going to fire Chuck, has to get this replcement HC more right than Ryan Grigson has to get his round 1 draft choice right.

If they both fail... you think the natives around here are riled up now...   :hissy::panic::Nuke:

Have YOU watched them recently? 4th in yards and 3rd in PPG for the regular season. We were 10th and 8th respectively.

Don't mistake efficiency for lack of big play ability.

Also, Luck and Brady have nearly identical splits based on pass attempts by distance. 344/545 (63%) of Andrew's passes were 10 yards or less. 270/432 (63%) of Tom Brady's passes fit under the same criteria.

For passes 21 yards+, Luck had 45 attempts (8.3% of attempts) and Brady had 42 (9.7% of attempts).

For passes 10-20 yards, Luck had 106 attempts (19% of attempts) and Brady had 60 (14% of attempts).

If anything, Brady and the Patriots were more aggressive than the Colts by substituting some of those mid-range throws with longer attempts.

Like who??

it was a pipe-dream... the "coached in the last three years" goes bye-bye real quick (that has to be extended back in time farther),,,,then looking at what Irsay would even consider, and they're locked up for multiple year contracts and one example has a losing record in PO's (arians for example... locked up till 2018 and playoffs 1-2 but has overall winning record)..... can't give up draft picks so that screws us farther into the ground.  So, since that was a failure at best, what do you think Irsay would consider?

Finaclly yes but he would be a different kind of fool to stay when he knows the owner is looking to replace him.  With that said I doubt he does quit but if he did I wouldn't blame him that's all.

Yeah...but a paid one.  A bigger fool quits and foregoes the money owed to him.  Regardless it's his perogative.  We both expect that he won't quit so let's just leave it at that.

I stopped trying to guess what Irsay is thinking a long time ago.   I know he wants to win.  How he wants to get there,  I have no idea

Please no

good OC, not proven as a HC (sucked at Denver) not unlike Pagano when he came into the league....just don't think we can take the chance.  must get a HC in the NFL with a winning record and winning playoffs record that coached within the last 3 years.

Who is available?

I'm getting a sickening feeling that Irsay fires Pagano only to replace him with Mike "the quarterback killer" Shanahan.  Ugh.  Heard that Mike has been getting the coaching itch and has been cold calling teams.  I could see a desperate Jimmy thinking this would be a good move...seeing him as a "big name splash".  To be clear these are just my thoughts based on my best guess of the various rumors I've been reading online. No sources or anything just my fear of what might happen.

ugh

If you guys are looking for a surprise turn of events, then how about this:

Pagano is fired, and Irsay introduces Gruden.

Wait, what?! Gruden? But he said no!

Of course he would say no in semi-public. The news broke, and he didn't wanna come back as a HC by showing public interest in a job that wasn't open. Hell no. So there was a leak about the conversation between Gruden and Irsay, and they had to cook something up in a hurry. Gruden denies - but not via a direct quote - and buys Irsay time to fire Pagano and start interviewing for the HC job. Now Gruden accepts and they can always spin it and something extra Irsay was giving him.

See, now I'm messing with your mind!

Totally unlikely but let us see if it is crazy enough to hit the rumor mill! lmao

that would be funny actually

For 5 years this team has a problem with slow starts.  For 3 years we were able to come back and win a lot of those. For 2 years, we haven't been able to. As far as I'm concerned the only consistency this team has shown is come from behind wins. Comparing this staff with the staff that Peyton had is a complete insult.

They actually aren't consistent in one score games. They were heavily above the average in Luck's first three years and regressed to middle of the pack for the last two.

I don't see McDaniels happening.

If Peyton is somehow still in play, I find McDaniels - the devil in Denver - highly unlikely.  In Denver, McDaniels is viewed as the guy who ran the organization into the ground, leaving Elway with that mess.  I doubt Manning's mentor, Elway, once in 4 years had a good word to say about McDaniels.

If Grigson stays, then you have the whole Deflategate fiasco in the mind of someone out of the Patriot organization, not to mention the constant Patriot beatdowns of Grigson constructed rosters.

Josh:  What do you think, Bill, should I put my future in the hands of Ryan Grigson?

Honestly would rather watch our offense then the way the Pats offense is run it so boring have you watched them recently? Least with Gronk they had big play ability now their a snooze fest.

They didn't look great vs Houston on Saturday, but make no mistake, that offense is a well-oiled machine.

I love Pagano as a person, but not as a coach. His first three years here I think he did better than expected. Wouldn't be surprised to see him get another gig if he wants it. Hope we get one of top guys!

Quarterback killer??? He won 2 Super Bowls with Elway who has the same skill set as Luck to a T, basically Luck is an Elway clone...His offensive blocking schemes always produce good running numbers and balance to the offense. He has taken many running backs late in the draft and made them pro bowlers like Terrell Davis and Alfred Morris. .He went to the playoffs with the likes of Jay Cutler, Jake Plummer, and RG 111...I wouldn't call him a QB killer at all..The situation in Washington was terrible he had a meddling owner forcing RG111 on him and he knew he wasn't gonna work he wanted Cousins...I think he would be a good fit for Luck and we would have a running game as well...He has been a coach in some form on 2 national championship college teams, 10 NFL conference Championships, and 6 Super Bowls so I think the dude can coach and has taught his son Kyle well...He is from the Bill Walsh coaching tree and runs the west coast offense which is what Luck ran in college...I would be fine with him or his son and a good DC like Gus Bradley..

I don't think you go from courting Gruden to promoting one of those guys.

Mike wouldn't be worst case scenario but I would much rather have his son be the HC

Not sure Luck is an Elway clone.  They are a little different between the ears...at least for now.  But I get the comparisons.  The Denver days were quite some time ago and has been blotted in mind by the stench of his Washington days which I was exposed to second hand since the Redskins are a big deal where I'm from.  You make some interesting points though...if we end up hiring him as I fear may happen then I definitely hope you are closer to right than I am.  We would need to find our own version of Terrell Davis though.  Shanahan doesn't win jack with Elway without that kind of running game behind him.

I don't think he will fire Pagano and promote from within. I don't think you should even worry about that. I could be wrong though.

Elway wouldn't have 1 SB championship without Terrell Davis. That guy was a monster

I just think he fits us..He is an offensive genius and even in his glory days at Denver I don't think he had the offensive talent to work with that we have..I think he could literally turn our offense into a machine...Pair him with a good DC and get some players on defense in the draft and free agency it could be magic...As far as Kyle goes Im not sure about a 1st time HC again, he is bound to make mistakes and I'm not sure the players would respect and fear him like his dad..

I got you. Denver's O line and running game was better but Indy would have the edge in QB (since Luck is younger than Elway was at the time they won those Super Bowls) and receivers.

    • Wait what? Really? Have they watched the same games we have?!
    • The money really isn’t an issue to me, tbh. First of all, our ultra frugal GM makes sure to leave plenty of unused cap space, so it’s not like we need that money elsewhere.  Second, with the way the cap increases every year that deal’s percentage of cap space shrinks every year, and even at its highest %, it was peanuts.    While everyone else lost their minds about the deal being a record for a kicker that has always been a nonstarter for me, and in the grand scheme it’s not a huge deal.    Not getting what we paid for is another story, however.
    • Kind of funny actually considering he was the forum whipping boy all thru preseason and camp
    • It's just weird not seeing linebackers reading runs and going forward to drill rb's in a hole.   Leonard's turnover creating peanut punches and interceptions helped mask how weak our D's were. Ballard is a failure at producing a contender type D.  And there are more than enough points on the graph as proof.
    • It is crazy. The fanbase thinks they were going to avoid the whole team struggling. But the Colts D is even worse this year and young Ant Rich doesn't even play D lol. If this keeps up, Gus is gonna get on the bus outta town. Speakin of "Stop it," I'd like to see this D stop somethin, stop anything. Stop the run, stop the pass, and do not let da Bears, with their rookie QB and trash oline, look like a real offense, or I'll panic for real. The D needs to get this turned around so that "My Bad" Bullhead Ballard will still be here to extend some more contracts. Ol' Jimmy I. is patient, but I bet he doesn't like looking like a fool.     NFL defense rankings 2024   30. Indianapolis Colts (28): Worst NFL defenses 2024 Let’s put things into perspective with this Indianapolis Colts defense. Malik Willis, who entered Sunday with a career 48.7 QB rating, completed 85.7 percent of his 14 pass attempts for 1 touchdown and 126.8 passing yards. That means through two weeks, this Colts defense has allowed a 115-plus QB rating in consecutive games. As for the Colts run defense, this group surrendered over 200 rushing yards for the second consecutive week. It’s inexplicable why Gus Bradley was retained and even more baffling why this unit wasn’t adequately addressed by GM Chris Ballard this offseason. Ultimately, it will be the Colts’ undoing.   https://sportsnaut.com/nfl-defense-rankings/
