I'm pretty annoyed about this.

I like Griff Whalen and I don't understand why we're hanging on to Reed. They've obviously grown tired of letting him run the ball out to the 6 because his return duties have been dwindling the past couple of weeks. I just don't really understand why he's here.

Whalen has played a lot more snaps than Reed on the offence since Reggie's injury, right?

The love for Whalen is lost on me. He is not, and these are in no particular order, fast, quick, nor can he separate plus he does not hang onto the ball. He was a warm body that knew the system.

I keep telling you guys he's not going anywhere because he's from Baltimore with Pagano.

To get rid of David Reed, you gotta get rid of Chuck Pagano

Now, David Reed may be gone next season, but he's here for this season

*edit...it's been addressed

:spit:

And you called my statement ridiculous? Cassius Vaughn (checks forehead to make sure he's not sick for actually using Cassius Vaughn's name in a positive sentence) , Lavon Brazill, & Josh Gordy do a better job at returning kicks than David Reed does

With the lack of depth at cb this year putting vaugn or gordy back there is bad news.

Brazill is playing more wideout so it makes sense to have reed keep doing it no matter how bad he is.

Whalen wasn't the quickest or the fastest but he was the best route runner on the team and is a reliable pass catcher. I do like the fact that Rogers will get to play this week but Whalen should have been kept over DHB and Reed. Those guys should have been cut weeks ago, Whalen seemed to always get a crucial catch on 3rd down and that will be missed.

He was neither of those things. He couldn't create separation to save his life which is why he dropped all of those passes.

He made a huge 3rd and 15th catch  vs the Texans and a crucial 3rd and 7 vs the Titans. He gets separation by his great route running no his speed.  Say what you want about his speed but the guy moved the chains. He may have dropped a few on early downs but on 3rd downs he was clutch, even in the Dolphins game he was wide open in the last game. It was a mistake cutting him and keeping DHB and Reed.

*Imagine* Rogers is reading all these posts right now on the forum and then he put tremendous pressure on himself because of all the hype and expectations he read about. Then finally on gameday, he gets the start. On the very first offensive play, Luck throw to Rogers, and then BOOM.He drop the ball.

ColtsNation would just  :Nuke:

I'll take a flier on why they cut Griff......

So they can re-sign him again to the practice squad....      can't do that with Reed,  he's been in the league too long.

Yes, they could do it with Rodgers....   but it sounds like the time is coming (this week?)  to see what DaRick can do.....

Again.....  just my hunch....

agreed. Griff was probably nearing the amount of games before he couldn't be re-sign to the practice squad. I think Pagano is trying out what he has. He tried out Whalen, and saw what he brought to the table, now he could be trying out Rogers.

He doesn't get separation at all unless it's a free release and when he does get seperation, he has just as much a chance of dropping it as catching it.

Whalen was pressed on both of those plays and he got separation and caught it. Your overrating separation, Boldin is slow and doesn't get much separation but he catches everything in traffic. Whalen isn't as physical as Boldin but he catches a lot of his passes in traffic with defenders draped over him. Even on the last drive vs the Titans Whalen was the only WR on the field for the long 10 play drive because he's good at selling the routes and he's familiar with the system.

DHB gets separation but he can't catch anything because he doesn't have good hands.  I rather have a guy like Whalen who can make the crucial 3rd down catches then being big and having speed with no hands like DHB.

Im not overrating seperation. Im just saying he doesnt get any seperation. And he drops 18% of his passes. Which is bottom 5 in the league.

He's just not a good player.

Never said he was great but he was better then DHB and Reed. He's a good player that made some huge 3rd down conversions for us vs division rivals. Some of those drops were a result of  high wild throws from Luck do to the bad o-line, but for the most part when the game was on the line Whalen always made the 3rd down catch.

We're going with nine on the line, Trich and Andrew in the backfield.

We gonna run dat ball come hell or high water!

We're going to run, but probably get stopped short. The most yards any team has gotten on the Cardinals are the Seahawks with 70 yards. I don't expect to have a huge run gain, but a pleasant surprise would be nice.

I think they're going to use Fleener outside at WR positions, a la Jimmy Graham and Vernon Davis in 3 wide sets, and try and create mismatches.

exactly why did we cut Zibs if that was true?

Because he was always drunk or hungover..please read article below.

Drops as in statistical drops, not overthrows. He has comparable hands to DHB without the speed or size, and he cant even get seperation with his routes. Griff Whalen is just bad.

Have to keep colby in the slot and atleast two te's to block on every play. I will laugh my ... off if darick gets hurt cuz this forum will implode, all the hype for a guy that cant get on the field with a team full of average at best to below average wr's like brazill, whalen, dhb, reed

Yes Colby must be in the slot along with two TE's blocking the whole time.  I'm sure that's the exact gameplan..... :dunno:

Could be. Anyway Whalen is not big , not fast and is just not enough of a difference maker. I'm assuming Rogers is showing something in practice so why not give him a chance ? What's to lose ?

You would really wish and injury to one of your own teams players that is sad.

Unfortunately, Griff Whalen was overrated. I was even hoping he would be like a Wes Welker or Danny Woodhead for the team, but he just doesnt have the ball skills, speed and football savvy to get separation and do any real damage. Catch and fall tactics dont usually get you employed in the NFL very long and he was a specialist at that.

I'm not saying that Zibbs stuck around all of 2012 because he was a "Pagano guy." I haven't see enough of C. P. to make that kind of judgement. I will say that other than one game (maybe Cleveland ? ) , he was terrible. I thought Lefeged was the better player and the Colts had nothing to lose by benching Zibbs.

Also at second glance , Pagano and Grigson get a pass (all the drinking) on signing him in the first place ?

    • Food for thought… Once again, you continue to be your own worst enemy.     The Colts overall TE room is loaded with young players most of whom have had very little playing time for a variety of reasons.   So if you want to say the room might not be ranked high, that’s fair.    But you don’t say that.  You call them “trash”.  Why you feel that’s appropriate is a mystery.   Whenever you try the internet tough guy approach it typically blows up on you.     No one is trash.     You ignore the last three years and the QB and HC carousel the Colts have dealt with.  All of which has impacted the Colts weapons, especially the TE’s.   Ballard has publicly talked about how promising he thinks his TE room might be.   Woods, Granson, Ogletree, Mallory and MAC.    Only MAC is questionable and that’s because the salary hasn’t matched expectations.  But the first four?   All are promising.   They’re just young and looking for opportunity.  But they are NOT trash.     There’s a difference.
    • Some of the coaches?   That sounds plural to me.   To the best of my knowledge the focus in this community has only been on one coach who may not be maximizing the players the Colts have.   And that’s the defensive coordinator.  He’s been a hot topic of conversation.  But I’m not aware of any other coach being viewed in a negative light.
    • Insane that this has been going on since 2015. From what I gather it’s due to the NFL making Sunday Ticket too expensive on purpose so only a select amount of people can purchase it, forcing most to use CBS and Fox.
    • Many are calling the Pacers pick of Furphy as a huge draft steal. Most projections had him in the top 20 of the 1st round, and even a few felt he could be as early as top 5!    That young man could be a huge contributor for the team next year.
    • Diana Taurasi has been trashing on Clark and Indiana since April. And today the Fever finally had a chance to shut her mouth up. Fever win over the Mercury 88-82.
