no Aaron Donald= no pass rush  smallish D weak vs run    Gore/Mack could do some damage.  I could write a book on Goff..total bust

doesn't feel pass rush, small hands, (fumbles, wounded ducks) bad decisions..in preseason game 3 basically benched after 2 series when he should of played 3 quarters.and starters basically didn't play in preseason so will be very rusty.  Below avg cb's and safeties wo will be exposed if oline give wr's time.  also Rams have slow cb's  who will struggle vs speed

do a draft site and thought Hooker had to play in a simple defense best in a Seattle one deep zone.  Not sure what you guys run.   Rams traded for Watkins and Woods and drafted Kupp and McVay calls a good game as HC/OC.   Gurley been a 18 game bust for the Rams and barely played in preseason and didn't show much when he did.   .

IMO best coaches will win.  more winnable then many of you think  Run the ball and pressure Goff...he will turn the ball over and hope Mcvay doesn't get into a play calling rhythm..Kid is good.

Gurley will be good again at the time they put a worth a crap o-line out there.

If we can run the ball and play good enough defense and make just enough throws there is no reason to believe that we cant beat this team. I do think it will be close.

This could be said by a Rams fan too.

I think the difference is that the Rams defense is better and their QB has a little more experience.

But you are right, when 2 bad teams play, someone has to win.

Some things that we will learn quickly in week one:

Is this defensive line as good as we think?  Gurley is going to be a nice test, we have yet to set an outside edge in any preseason game, that will be key to force the Rams to throw the ball.

If the Rams go one dimensional throwing the ball, do we have the personnel/scheme to provide enough pressure to help the secondary?

Can we for the first time since Edgerrin James establish a legitimate running game?  With Tolzien behind center we need the running game more now than ever take pressure off the QB.

Will this latest iteration of our frankenline gel for pass and run protection?  Probably the most important unit that needs to put their crap in a sock for this game.  If we can't get first downs consistantly it won't matter how good the defense is doing.

Optimistically Colts 16 Rams 10 (OL pulls it together, we can control the clock and get a win)

Pessimistically Rams 35 Colts 10 (if the wheels fall off, i can see it getting ugly)

had the exact same oline in his 1st 8 games....then vanished as a player

for this game Sullivan, Saffold and Whitworth are healthy..doubt they remain healthy  but that should help the Rams but Gurley still looked mediocre in preseason running behind them

 Colts 24

Rams 13

I keep hearing the LA defense getting props.  Researched the starters, and I'm not really certain the have the personnel for their switch to Wade Phillips' 3-4 D.  Without Donald, the DL includes a couple of 285 lb. situational pass rushers and. 305 lb. NT.  Quinn only had 4 sacks last year and he's transitioning to OLB.  Mark Barron is A 225 lb. former S switching to ILB.  It seems like these guys should be pretty easy to run on.  Their secondary looks veteran and solid, but #1 CB Trumaine Johnson is supposed to be a poor fit for Son of Bum's D...

I still think he will be good again if they use him right.

Colts absolutely win this game. 17-14

The Colts, especially without Luck, are exactly not a contender either. It's a winnable game, sure. Absolutely? No way.

Everyone thinks our offense is going to struggle but I think the addition of Jacoby Brissett was huge. He was impressive in my opinion when we saw him play during Brady's suspension.

As for the Ram's, Goff is not NFL starter caliber and Aaron Donald may not play because of a contract hold out. Gurley is going to run all over us but is not going to be the deciding factor.

My prediction 27-17 Colts

Wouldn't really be a surprise to win the game. While I wanted Morris over him, we can't ignore the fact that the preseason offense isn't indicative of how Tolzein actually plays. Vs Pitt, the dude was just chucking long passes downfield and moved the ball pretty well. The redzone offense is what tanked the game. I don't have a feel for how the Rams should play, but I can't imagine we don't have the ability to do better.

Watch it.  You'll be accused of using logic.  :headspin:

First Quarter: Zuerlein kicks a 24 field go after driving the field on the first drive but a sack by Simon stalls the drive 0-3

Second Quarter: The Colts defense bends but does not break but our offense cannot move the ball     Half time Score 0-3

Third Quarter: No Scoring

Fourth Quarter: With 6 minutes left, Sheard sacks Goff and causes a fumble but it is recovered the offense on the Rams 2 yard line. Next play Basham bull rushes and sacks Goff in the end Zone   2-3

The next Rams drive Goff leads them to a 70 yard drive but an interception by Melvin is run back to the Colts 8 yard line. The next play a bad snap to Tolzien is fumbled and the Rams recover on the Colts 4 with 1:42 seconds left

The Rams hand off to Gurley but Hooker is blitzing and knocks the ball loose to be recovered by the Hairston in the end zone

4-3 with 44 seconds left. The Rams cannot get a drive going an interception by Mingo seals the victory

Colts win 4-3

whenever asked for a prediction, I think of clubber lang saying "pain" but the real pain I think is going to be in us watching.

Still, i'll go with a colts win 10-3.

That is great stuff, the only part 3's that are the best IMO are Rocky 3 and Friday the 13th Part 3. Most Part 3's suck lmao Usually the best are the 1st or 2nd.

Interesting stats is that we have only won one season opener in the last 7 years and that was against the then horrible Raiders in '13. Most of the openers have been a loss in a blow out. We seem to never be quite ready to play football at the start of the season, and now with a couple of key players out, I have my doubts. I am going to the game and hope for an exciting win for us, 17-14 Colts... Not surprised either if we get our tails kicked in a 42-6 loss

i think the colts can pull it off

our offense is still better than theirs and their defense wont have its best player

we should be able to run against them and make more plays than they do in the passing game

Thank you for using the proper possessive - "theirs" vs "theres"  LOL

I love Wade Phillips. I always hoped we would get a DC like Wade Phillips, but we never do. =(

He can make bad D to good D in less than 1 season and Rams D is already good enough so he shouldn't have any problem.

Hooker takes one to the house.

Mack scores 2.

Tolzein scores one.

Gore scores one.

Rams get and early and a late TD.

35-14 Colts everyone over reacts and claims Indy is the super bowl favorites when Luck comes back.

:-)

More like people will still find negatives to point out.

    • I think HOU certainly got better. On defense, they added an All-Pro pass rusher in Hunter and also added Autry. They might have best ER duo in the NFL (though I say that without looking too in depth into it).   On offense, even if Diggs isn't still a great WR, you can do a lot worse at WR3. Nico had a legit breakout and Tank Dell was on pace for 1k+ yard/10+ TDs as a rookie. Even Noah Brown was productive. They have talent and depth there.   They also have a proven TE in Schultz, which I think gives their TE room the edge. Stover is also a prospect I liked. At this point, the Colts TE room doesn't have that TE1.   Colts have the better OL, but HOU is still a top 15 unit, possibly top 10 when healthy (which is the key). They dealt with injuries early last season, but once they got healthy, they were much better.   And at QB, Stroud is the more proven QB at this point.   Have to give them edge on offense overall. On defense, I would have to give them edge as well, due to their secondary. Right now, I think that's a big ? for the Colts.    I really don't see any major weakness, at least on paper. But they do have to face a gauntlet of a schedule, which probably caps their win total. Still, they should be the favorite in the AFCS.   But it's not just HOU, I think TEN is going to be much improved as well. And JAC has won 4/5 games against IND. Just overall, the AFCS should be really competitive, which makes picking up more wins tricky (vs. the past where at least one of those teams was typically bad).
    • Summer heat's gotten to him. Somebody call somebody!
    • The only position Maniac can probably play now is on special teams! Put him on KO/KOR/Punt team! I’d kick the tires on that only if it were for vet min!
