Oh it's gonna hurt our special teams unit. But while I love the guy, our team didn't just get A LOT worse. But it definitely downgraded. We will be seeing more returnable kickoffs and some bad punts that we never see from McAfee. Hey at least we got a new GM this week!

More returnable kick offs= more turnovers right? Trying to look on the bright side here....:wall:

The number of ways this is a completely uninformed post is off the charts.

1) He was not just a punter.  He was the best punter.  Changed field position all the time.

2) Why minimize the way other people are feeling about this news.

3) He is hugely important in the community.  Just curious - do you live in Indy?

No, but I spend a lot of time there. I get it, this is not good. Another hole to fill. But I think they will be able to find a capable replacement faster than they will fix our problems on defense. I'm not happy about it believe me, special teams are underrated in football.  Most teams have nullified the kickoff return in large part . His gross average at 47 , that is awesome. They will find a guy, but what bums me is they are going to have to spend a pick or cap money to do it and we need defensive players badly right now.

I doubt it will be a lot worse.    The next punter probably won't be as good,  but we will field another punter

Exactly, it's not as hard as getting playmakers on defense and will be cheaper.  It sucks, he was very good, but it probably isn't going to have that much effect on the record if any .

The Colts have been pretty fortunate when it comes to punters.  Chris Gardocki, not a booming leg but a consistent good range punter.  Hunter Smith had the best back spin I've ever seen on a punt and he could pin teams inside the 20 consistently not to mention the best athlete on team, so much so he was the cout QB when the Colts were going to play QBs like Michael Vick.  Then comes Patty Mac and he was the best punter of them all, great kickoffs, great punts and hang time, took pride in his craft and had fun doing it.  He will be missed but I also think he's replaceable.

Actually, I would imagine that it will save them cap money.   I can't imagine a new punter coming in and making anywhere near as much coin as the Colts were paying to Pat.

I think the field position will make it tougher on the defense.

I don't think anyone is comparing this to losing Luck, but it is a step backwards for the team.   They may have to use 2 roster spots to replace him.   Hopefully not.

I don't think there will be another player like Pat again.  He was a funny guy and really enjoyed the game, you could tell with all of his antics on the field.  I will miss seeing him out there.  Not only is he one of the best punters in the NFL but he's a great guy off the field too.  I wish him the best of luck.  Thanks for the awesome 8 years!

Finally getting some actual talent over there at Barstool Sports.

Those guys are hilarious, especially KFC and Big Cat. They are definitely ripping us on this one (photoshopped the banner that says "Lost our punter to barstool sports at age 29" and saying the team that started deflategate loset their punter to barstool), but at least we finally have someone to stick up for us and make Indy more known to people in the northeast.

Yeah that's right . But might need a kickoff specialist too maybe . Can't see them not getting a guy to do both though. I'm not sure how other teams are doing it. Are a lot of them doing this? I don't pay much attention to it.

That's what I was thinking. Vinatieri doesn't have the leg to kick it out of bounds .

They are hilarious.  But they jab us enough, I feel it's only in good sport to jab them back.  I haven't read them forever adn if there's one thing I hate about them is that while those guys write satire and do what they do to make a living, the people there in Boston quote it like it's the word of God himself - and those guys are closer to a comedy meets TMZ than a reputable sports commentary.  What they know and what they exaggerate on is lost on a lot of their readers.

Yea they definitely jab at us because Boston dominates everyone in sports, and Indy had nobody to defend themselves (and frankly deserve to get made fun of bc of how garbage we are against them). I used to read the website every day in college but now I just follow them on twitter, I know they have a ton of podcasts and shows and stuff but I get my comedy from Howard Stern (hence, bababooey), but will probably give these guys more of my free time now that 1. they are crushing on comedy central and will probably get a show out of this week's live from houston rundown and are number 2 in the 18-34 demo and 2. they got Pat working for them.

Using a late pick, draft Austin Rehkow as our kickoff/punter specialist.  Let AV kick FG's and PAT's.  Unless Jimmy Raye can work magic and get him to sign as a UDFA.

It's been a while since I followed them regularly.  They were funny, but it wasn't hard to see through their agenda - and it got old pretty fast.  If they focused more on the comedy aspect and less on agenda, I'd probably follow them more often.

They moved away from smut peddling and straight up blogging aka commentating on ridiculous news stories with occasional sports stuff (although they still do it but it's not the main focus) to all about sports, they have a goldfish that makes football picks, but the best is their twitter game. All live events from sports to award shows to the bachelor they all go in on and it's too funny. Now this rundown show is essentially a combo of pardon the interruption and tosh.o

If he goes undrafted,  It won't take much magic to sign him as an udfa.   His best chance to make a roster is here

Ron Stark bridged from Baltimore to  Indy and he was nearly as good a punter at Pat. Him and Reggie Roby were considered the best punters  in the league for years.

Pat can make quite the coin at Barstool I've read . Didn't know that stuff paid that much.

Yea PFT says he could make more than his salary working for them (2.75 mil). May not be that much of a stretch. They got aquired by Chernin Group last year and are a legit operation now instead of small dumpy offices around the country. Pat being able to stay in Indy is huge hopefully it works out. I'm sure he will be flying to NY a ton.

They are the other story during SB week. Pat goes from being in the NFL to being banned by the NFL for the stool's deflategate sit in. Considering their one week show is number 2 of the 18-34 demo, losing only to Conan, over three times the audience of Skip Bayless, and this is without any real marketing minus social media spread, with the MIDNIGHT timeslot. These guys are about to get paid a lot more than they already are.

I've never heard of Barstool.

Now a bar stool.   That i am familiar with.

I honestly never heard of it either until now. Pretty stunning Pat is retiring. He was a Great Punter but replaceable. He was a solid vocal leader as well, losing his leadership on SPTeams may hurt a bit. We still have Adam kicking FG's and is a Great leader so we will be fine.

Thanks for the humor CR91. I needed that this morning more than you know.

Yep, that pretty much covers it Jaric. Pat is naturally funny though so I expect his standup career to flourish & go next level just like he always did something miraculous on special teams. Good luck Mr. McAfee & thanks for all the good memories man.
