Report: Colts’ GM candidates also meeting with Pagano

From profootballtalk.com

General manager candidates interviewing with Colts owner Jim Irsay are also getting some one-on-one time with head coach Chuck Pagano, NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reported Friday...

...Garafolo also tweeted Friday that a hire could be made in the next week to 10 days and that “many believe” Ballard is the favorite.

that's awkward --- you're meeting with the guy that will likely fire you AND you have an opinion/input on his hiring..... if not awkward, let's just say interesting.

Where does it say Pagano has input on his hiring? Maybe it's for the new GM to get some opinion on Pagano and when/if hired they can give their input to Irsay on whether or not they want to keep him.

I'm with you, that makes more sense.  I'm hoping that's the gist.

10 days is a lot. Combine is only a few weeks away. They need to at least give the new GM time to set up his scouting team which could take a few days to complete.

Plus, they still need to sign Manning in time for season ticket invoices to go out.

Typically, new GMs don't make significant changes to the scouting staff until the following season.

And if it's Ballard he'll have all the Chiefs notes on players and the Colts notes on players. That would be interesting to compare.

Well I had heard that with Ballard, people felt that he would quickly assemble a scouting staff so I assumed changes would be made immediately.

Who cares about the forum.  Just make the right pick.  BTW any new staff that is assembled is for next year.  He will roll with what information our current staff has assembled PLUS what info he brings over from his old team.  I am sure he already has a solid evaluation of this years draft.  I can't believe people are upset that they are having a sit down meeting with Pagano  It's a courtesy and a common sense move on Jim's part.  After what he just went through with Grigson it just makes sense to meet with the coach and get his take on the team.  IMO it's kind of ridiculous not to do it.  Hire him first then introduce him to the coach.  No thank you. Jim knows what he's doing.  Thank God he's running the team and not some of the crazies on this forum.

I just read Holders story on Indy Star.

He says... "Colts have plowed through six interviews"...

So apparently, Eliot Wolf has concluded his interview as well.

Cool, now we just gotta flip the coin and schedule the press conference.

So that was 4 interviews today, right? Seems like a lot in one day to interview for a GM position. Although, Jim probably had a good idea who he wants to hire before he fired Grigson on Saturday.

Two on Wednesday, two yesterday, two today.

Why have chuck around for gm interview? The new gm should question his poor coaching skills and want his own coach.

Too many are leaping to the conclusion that Chuck is interviewing GMs.  It seems more likely the GM candidates are sizing up Pagano while Irsay determines how well any GM may work with Pagano.

If that is case then Raye will be automatic.
