Duron Carter, Phillip Dorsett, and Josh Robinson have taken the most snaps as a returner.

Per Greorge Bremer on twitter.

Carter fielding punts? interesting i guess he is trying to solidify his roster Spot with the Addition of ST duties.

Well, this is just for rookie camp, right? It's good that Dorsett, Carter, and Robinson are working at return duties. We'll see how this shapes out once all Colts players are in camp.

Personally, I think it takes speed, but a lot of vision and wiggle. So you don't necessarily have to be a burner to be a good returner. You have to be able to read your blocks and make people miss. Oh, and you have to be able to catch the ball.

He needs to do something. We will more than likely keep 5. TY AJ Moncief and Dorsett are locks so that leaves one spot open for Brown Whalen Carter Langford Lenz etc to fight it out. UDFA Quan Bray was Auburn's may return specialist with 56 career punt returns and 34 KR's. Last year he average 18 yards a punt return with 2 house calls.

The 5th WR should be a very interesting battle. I would give Carter the edge on name alone.

The highlight from Friday’s first day of work was undrafted cornerback Donald Celiscaricon-article-link.gif (Western Michigan) stepping in front of a pass intended for Duron Cartericon-article-link.gif and hauling in an interception during 11-on-11 work.

First-round pick Phillip Dorsetticon-article-link.gif fielded punt and kick returns during special teams drills. Dorestt caught a comeback route in 11-on-11 drills and nearly hauled in a deep ball that allowed the Miami product to display his 4.27 40-yard dash speed.

At running back, all 5-8 of Josh Robinsonicon-article-link.gif showed that he can catch the ball out of the backfield. Chuck Pagano talked before Friday’s practice how he sees three-down potential in Robinson. The sixth-round pick agrees with the coach’s assessment saying that his “soft hands” can be trusted in the passing game.

Other draft pick notes included seventh-round selectino Denzelle Goodicon-article-link.gif working at right tackle and sixth-round pick Amarlo Herreraicon-article-link.gif calling the plays for the first-team defense

Im a Canes fan. I've watched Dorsett on PR and KRs, he has the speed of course but he's not a make you miss type player. He's not going to juke a lot of ppl. He'll need a crease and the space to outrun someone to be effective at either

I wish they would let Duron concentrate on receiving and route running...if he learns the system he could be a nice big target, especially if Andre goes out for a few games.

Leave the return duties to Dorsett and Bray.

If Mr. Hamilton is as good an OC as some people think, yes he will see the field

Trust me....

Whatever decision Mr. Hamilton makes,  you will find a way to NOT approve.

Short of winning the Super Bowl, you simply won't be happy.

As the kids here like to say.....   "I'm calling that right now!"

carter was and is a long shot to make the team. He needs to make himself as useful as possible....let's not act like this kid is something special because of name alone. I will be very surprised if he is on our 53 man roster come week 1. Practice squad likely.

You don't want a really tall punt returner.  I've read Bill Polian explain that principle before.  Somebody like Josh Robinson would be better as long as his hands are good enough.  I've always liked CBs to be punt returners.  I"m not sure it's what Dorsett's best suited for.

Have you even bothered to look at any film from his playing days in the CFL? He will make this team and be successful. He is not expecting any special treatment because of who is father is so why are you bringing it up? You have been reading and paying too much attention to the so called experts on ESPN or the NFL network. Most of them are over paid ex jocks who really are not too smart in the first place.

saw it...and then recalled it was in the CFL and decided for myself to temper my expectations. It's ok....we've been through this with lots of overhyped signings....seems we just got rid of everyone's favorite wr right Rogers last year. I'd love to be wrong but the tape says he is a long shot IMO.

Care to make a wager on that? Id put money on him being on the 53 week one

He is going to make the 53 as the 5th WR.

you can just say told you so. He may very well be our 5th wr...no doubt about that....and perhaps that's because he he can RETURN kicks and help on special teams like we are talking about here. He needs to do more than just catch balls...he has to show more value than that because we have 4 wrs very much more polished and better than him already. He could be our 5th....and never see the field...his talent and ability right now doesn't put him on the field for us...that's all I'm saying....he is abut scratching to get by. Griff has already shown he can return punts and catch balls...and yes he is barely on the team but for Carter to be an upgrade he has to bring more value.....sorry name isn't enough.

maybe...but his best chance to do that or help the team is on special teams because he ain't seeing the field as a wr unless we get multiple injuries...so people saying they don't want him working on special teams and he should just be focused on wr I believe are not thinking clearly. Kids best chance is to show value to the team on special teams right now and as he progresses maybe he will work up the depth chart in a couple years...he isn't getting by just catching passes right now....even doing that he isn't good enough to see the field over the guys we got.

There is no way that Dorsett is going to be the 5th WR. The 5th WR was the one who was always inactive on game day for us last year(Darick Rodgers), which will be impossible if you expect Dorsett to be returning punts and kicks.  If Duron Carters skill set translates enough for him to make the team I expect him to be the 5th WR.  The starters will be T.Y., Andre Johnson, Moncrief, and you'll have Dorsett coming in on multiple packages on top of his punt return duties.  I expect Carter to spend most of this year learning from Andre Johnson, but I expect he'll get his fair share of game action when injuries occur.

The more your able to do the more the team values you & the more time you'll see on the field  IMO Carter is no better than Dorsett  & the coachs are just seeing what these guys can bring to the table evaluations start now .

He needs to make the team and be on an active roster first.  As it stands right now, he is in a battle for the 5th WR spot.  We have 2 big bodies (AJ and Moncrief) at WR, plus decent-sized TEs -- at this point in time, it would be rare for Carter to see the field, if ever.  I am rooting for the kid, and hope he does something, but I don't think we'll see a whole lot of him on the field (especially in the beginning of the year) if he makes the team.  Maybe next year.

Delvin Breaux is the only CB that I could find who is in the NFL now that came from the CFL.  Nick Harper (our former CB) is the only other I can think of in NFL history -- the NFL CBs are a LOT better than the CFL CBs -- Carter's tape in CFL is pretty impressive, but he's playing against guys that aren't NFL worthy.  Again, I'm rooting for the kid, but don't have my hopes set high on him.

I won't be surprised to see Dorsett get more time than Moncrief -- he seems like a better route-runner and, therefore, more of a potential threat.  I think they'll both do fine, but I expect Dorsett to see significant time on Sundays.

Wow Herrera calling the shots on D? It's just rookie mini-camp but that's pretty cool. Means he picked up the defense pretty quick.

Dorsett isn't tall at all.  Physically he's very suited for the job.

Everyone there is a rookie and one of the players has to take the lead. The ILB who was actually drafted and played in a 3-4 for like 7 years in college is the logical choice.

I'm sure one of the second team ILB's is calling the plays for that group as well.
