Colts work out Josh Cribbs

I wish we could deal with KC for De'Anthony Thomas...Reid is so misusing him and his talents in KC..He's a 4 way threat as a KR/PR/RB/WR. He's faster than TY and just needs a crack to score...Ah but to dream...Put him in occasionally as a RB...and use him for short screens, or little crossing routes, or as a change of pace back in the backfield. He's small, but like TY, tough as nails...Give him like 5-7 touches on Offense and let him handle all the KR/PR duties..We'd have better field position most of the time with him instead of Whalen, though Whalen has done the most he can in return duties, even with his lack of speed.

"Nickname is “Black Mamba.” LA Lakers NBA superstar Kobe Bryant might take issue with that name. He's got 1st dibs man. Do nicknames qualify for trademark infringement?

"Played for the Crenshaw Bears in Snoop Dogg’s Pop Warner football league at age 12."

That's like saying inhaling pot fumes around Snoop's entourage qualifies you to work for the DEA. Only teasing! Seriously though, how is an activity around football that young relevant on an NFL RB's resume? I know; I know it pertains to hobbies or recreational activities.

Sorry TYG. I realize you were making a valid point, but my sarcastic switch just flipped on & I had to let it fly my man. I get what you are saying though.

I'm still trying to imagine what things would be like if we would have picked up Devin Hester instead of the Falcons.  I would have loved to have seen that!

Good point. Hester would have made the Colts Special Teams unit unstoppable krunk. Adam V., Pat Mcafee, & DH would have been spectacular! What drew him to Atlanta anyway? The chance to be a full time WR?

I like Matt Ryan at QB & Osi Umenyiora because I have a soft spot for former NY Giants players usually, but the Falcons otherwise put me to sleep. Hester still has tread on those tires & he would make a nice addition inside LOS.

TBH with you, if I had an exceptional HOF PR gift like DH does, I'd never wanna play WR even part time. That dude has a knack for finding the endzone with great vision & lightning speed. Hone your craft son, don't try to be the swiss army knife of special teams. Just do your 1 thing incredibly well. Pat Mcafee understands his gift perfectly. Okay, I know that Pat holds the ball up for Adam's FG kicks, but Pat knows how fantastic he is & he doesn't try & pretend to be something he's not. I wish DH would get that crucial lesson myself.

Wikipedia has him listed as a Colt's player right now.  Says he plays for the Indianapolis Colts in the introduction.  Any official word on us signing him?

Honestly I'm not a fan.  Return game couldn't be more meaningless to me.  Catch the ball, take the touchback or fair catch it.

Occasionally returns get you a few extra yards.  Especially with the touchbacks now it's rare to see one returned for a TD, so it's pointless to invest anything in a player as a return specialist.  Just get a guy who can catch the dang ball.

Besides this guy got cut in camp by the freaking Raiders . . . THE RAIDERS last year and then ended up on IR with the Jets.

At best I think he's a waste of a roster spot.  This could end up being a big mistake too.  I'm afraid this guy muffs a punt and costs us the game.

Would be interesting with Josh Cribbs if he's still got it:

He got lucky.  99 times out of a hundred with 5 unblocked opponents coming at him, he gets plastered at the 1.  Now I really don't want to see this guy on the Colts.  He took a huge risk and got lucky with it.  What happens when he doesn't get lucky?  We take the ball at the 1 or he fumbles it into the endzone for the easiest touchdown of the season?

He pretty much had to run it because he tried to catch it at the 10 but bounced out of his hands. Then he made the play. Lucky, yes maybe but he's a great player, or used to be. Not sure now but could be worth a shot.

Business is back today. Bye Week vacation over so if we did sign him, we'll know no later than 5pm EST today

His twitter statement seems to indicate that he's been signed.  So I would say most likely he has.

All that said I still don't like it and my view could get worse depending on who we cut for him.

Maybe if he returns some kicks extremely well to give us good field position or a TD then my mind will change.  But ever since they moved the kickoff line up and most of those go into the endzone anyways I just don't even think there is all that much value in a kick returner.  Then add to it that they signed one that is 31 and got cut by the freaking Raiders and I really don't like it.

I dont see the point. kickoffs are 90% unreturnable

I agree to a point.  I don't mind the team looking for upgrades but IMO, you have to be smart about it.  At 31 and coming off an injury, Cribbs is not a long term answer at returns.  And the return game is not the reason the Colts have lost 3 games.

But that being said, as much as I like Whalen as a returner, I don't think upgrading the position is a bad thing.

If healthy not only could Cribbs provide an upgrade on the field but also veteran leadership

I kicked the tires on Nicks weeks ago. This week would be a great time to slide him in as the #3

I think most of us feel that way at this point.  But if the coaches arn't going to make him a major factor in the offensive game plan by moving him in as a WR#3 then they might as well make him the kick returner.

However it is possible they where waiting for the bye week to give him some extra time to learn different routes or something.

But I hope to see him get more snaps then Nicks.

He'd also be doing punts so he'd earn his keep there. Seldom will he get a KR since most go in as a touchback depending on the kicker. But I'm sure Gostkowski (spellcheck) will be knocking those bad boys out the park on KO at the Oil Drum

If we did sign Cribbs, his vaulue will be at PR where Whalen has been sub par then solid. Too wishy washy and also make bonehead moves.

Cribbs could be that spark to make the ST unit complete. Great Punter, Great Gunners..... Missing the returner

My buddies from Cleveland told me his family begged him to quit after all the injuries and concussions he's had.  I really don't see why KR is a need, and Whalen has been solid on PRs.

Very true. If our return blocking can perform well and block for a guy like Cribbs.. Look out. If we did sign him he must have really impressed our coaching staff. He must still have some speed left in that tank of his. I hope.
