BProland85
I was hoping Ballard would snag one of these talented TEs from this loaded class. Bucky Hodges is still available and would've loved having him over Hairston.

If he is there in the 6th/7th the Colts could trade back in with a 2018 5th or 6th.
dodsworth
Only one skill player was drafted 'Mack' so we may be transitioning from finesse to more of a physical smash mouth team. Our last 2 or 3 GM's would have definitely went with a TE somewhere in the draft.
colt18
I don't think we need a TE. We have Doyle, Swoope and just signed a former basketball player
SkyBane
They went so heavy in defense this draft, and there's only 8 picks. UDFA's will still be a thing, and there's still going to be plenty of TE talent in that pool. This is a non concern imo.
Bluefire4
We have Doyle who can block and catch. We have Swoope who is primarily a receiver, and we have Brandon Williams who is a pretty good blocker. I'm fine with that group of TE's. We'll bring in a UDFA or two to compete for Williams' spot and put Alie-Cox on the practice squad

You and maybe 2 other people, perhaps. The Colts have been the definition of "finesse" NFL team since like 2004. Granted drafting a few defensive players doesn't make you smash mouth, but it's a trend away from QB puts up record breaking numbers or bust that we've operated on for 15 years. dgambill
There will be free agents later in the year during preseason that there was no reason to expend valuable draft capital on a TE that likely won't see much playing time with our two young starters. We even have a rookie project to stash on the practice squad and a blocking special team specialist we got in FA. It might be a need if we get some injuries but for now it was low on the board. stitches
I think it shows incredible level of trust in Doyle and Swoope. People are probably not surprised about them trusting Doyle since they gave him a good long-term contract, but the reports from the Colts and from Ballard have been that they love Swoope! He had some explosive plays last year and hinted at having good potential at the position.

Barrdaddy
The tight ends we have this year are a perfect fit to our offense, and Ballard will draft Troy Fumagalli out of Wisconsin next year. That guy is an absolute stud TE.

I agree. Clark was a first down making machine and was a go to guy. Doyle is a little like him just can't run the routes as well as Clark did. Manning's use of the tight ends all depended on what defense he was facing. You never knew what TE or WR was going to shine from game to game. Hopefully with more experience Luck can start to see the field and what the defenses are doing as well as Manning did after his 4th year.

BlueCollarColts
I'm actually very high on Swoope. I think he can be a complete mismatch in terms of being too fast for most LB's to cover, but too big for most safeties/corners. It wouldn't surprise me if he ends up with 500-600 yards receiving on the season.

It wouldn't surprise me if he ends up with 500-600 yards receiving on the season. If healthy, he should absolutely end up with at least 500-600 yards receiving. Last season, he had 297 yds on 22 targets (15 catches). If you gave him just half of Allen's targets from last season (~26) in addition to the 22 he had...he would have 600+ yards. But, ideally, he should get ~80% of those targets from last season (~42)...which would put him at ~64 targets. He probably won't maintain that ridiculous 19.8 yds/catch, but with his RAC ability he should still get 15 yds/catch. If he catches 70% of those targets (~45 catches)...that's 675 yds. If Swoope plays like he did last season, he could be competing with Doyle for TE1 targets by mid-season. Sky's the limit.
