I know its only a projection of the top 20 LB´s in 2020, but we dont even have one of those names on the list.

If we have Super Bowl aspiration, then we need one of those.

Would love to see von miller in a colts uniform or someone like luke kuechley.

hope we get one in free agency this year or through the draft. cause we need to upgrade on our d#

LOL come on man. That was the first thing I seen. Then I realized "oh, that's for 2020" and erased the post before I THOUGHT anyone seen it LMAO.

Sorry, I just found it hilarious.

The linebackers really need a large upgrade though. Jaylon Smith in the first this year, even though it won't help much initially, would be a steal for the future. It's kind of pie in the sky to think we'll get him though.

Yeah that's true. We absolutely have to find a dominant edge rusher and another really good one lol. Then we need an ILB who can cover TE's, stop the run, and do it all.....Like Jaylon Smith.

I honestly think that the people who project us drafting OT in the first are missing the bigger picture with the Colts. It's far more likely they go CB/EDGE (depending on BPA) in the first, then start looking at O line towards the 2nd-3rd round, as interior linemen are more the need. OLB has to be top priority heading in to the off season though, there's just no position of greater need (despite what a lot of arm chair analysts will scream).

I mean, we've got Erik Walden, and the potential of Newsome and then... what? An over the hill Mathis? It's not pretty.

Agree 100%. I've been saying this for months. We have to bring in an OLB or 2 who can put consistent pressure on opposing QB's and post good sack numbers. I honestly think we need to bring in 2 pass rushers.  Its one of the most important pieces to a defense, and we don't have a single guy on our roster who I fell comfortable saying can put up double digit sacks. Mathis should get 6-8, but he's probably not going to do what he did 2 years ago at this point, and that's what we need.

Jaylon Smith is the best ILB prospect to come out since Keuchly. Injured or not if he's there at 18 the Colts need to pull the trigger.

He was injured last month so he could be ready by November. Plus it's rare for a GM to go to a college game in person, but Grigson himself went to a Notre Dame game early in the season so maybe he's a fan.

No way Denver or Carolina let Von Miller or Kuechley leave -- IMO, they are both top 10 defensive players in the league (maybe even top 5).

It looks like there will be some talent in the next couple of drafts, though.

Sounds like the new D-Coordinator is a LB guru, so hopefully he can help Newsome's development and I think Mathis still has another good year (maybe 2) in him as a pass-rusher.  I am not going to get too high on either Irving or Moore, but the fact that they were both coming off injuries gives me a little hope they might still have some potential with good coaching/scheme fits.

Regardless, I really hope we address the position in the draft.  I think we can still get another good season from Walden and D'Qwell, but it's the pass rush that bothers me and between D'Qwell, Walden, Cole, Mathis (and Freeman who we don't know if we'll resign) we need to get younger across the board at LB.

With both Henry Anderson and Art Jones coming off season-ending injuries, I hope we figure a way to address the DL either in draft or FA.  And of course, we need to address the OL and a 2nd CB position.  I'll be interested to see how this all unfolds, for sure.

i cant remember us having an impact player like that on D since Bob Sanders

I understand the sentiment, but I feel like that's undervaluing Mathis of a couple years ago. Vontae of last year was certainly an impact player as well. The problem with both those examples was the rest of the D around them wasn't enough for that impact to feel as splashy as it was with Bob Sanders. While Sanders was a very good safety, I sometimes feel his impact is over dramatized because of the nature of how it was felt.

There were impact players on that defense already, but Bob was the last piece to the puzzle that gave the defense the level of boom it needed to be put over the top. When he came back in 2006, it meant the already stellar pass rush from our bookends Freeney and Mathis, had a backfield presence to make that rush more meaningful.

The last couple years, we've had 1-2 impact players on defense, but never that 3rd player to really push it in to that very good category. If they can add a legit EDGE backer, and Davis and Anderson both get healthy though? This defense could transform over night.

Some people really underestimate how good Mike Adams has played as a Colt, He missed 3 games this year and still had 5 picks(returning 1 for a TD) and 6 passed defensed, He also had 11 passes defensed last year while recording another 5 picks, Forced 5 fumbles as a Colt and recovered 3. As far as a cover Safety he is better then Bob was though Bob just could not keep off the Injury report.

The thought occurs to me that a lot of the knock on Manusky was his overcomplication with his defensive schemes, which didn't allow players to just make plays. A lot of the knock on Werner has been his inability to make plays because he seems like he is thinking about what to do too much.

The new DC is a LB specialist, and we presume will run a simpler scheme.

I'm not saying he's suddenly going to be a world beater, but this seems like a last chance for Bjoern to come in to his own.

A lot of people seem to think we'll make a pretty big push for Von Miller. As much as I'd love to have him, I don't think he is someone we will push for.

I agree. I don't think he leaves Denver. Big name free agents I could see are Muhammad Wilkerson or Malik Jackson on the defensive line.

I think the linebacking group will have to be improved over the next 2-3 draft. I don't see the Colts being able to upgrade these spots from free agency this year.

Join us in offering to Freyja that Jaylon Smith falls to us? She likes cats.

Man 2007 we were top 3 defense with just him on the field.  I miss him so much it hurts my heart.  I like to think he was the only reason we had one of the best defenses that year

Build a dominant defense and you'll see the offense takes off.  oh heck with the overhaul on the coaching on both sides of the ball you'll have some fresh perspective on how they will attack the opponents.  Let's hope their changes and additions come to a fruition....Go Colts 2016.

I'm a fan of Smith but I just don't think he will be there.

Does anyone think it would be possible for Aldon Smith to come here and produce? He is listed as an URFA.

Produce what? DUI and alcohol related arrests. Great player but he has lost control of his life.

i see OT as a fall back if the top defenders are gone.  its not a great year for edge rushers at all.  i would take smith personally, but its impossible to say if he will be there.

He cant play until when? Like week 6 or 8? But yeah I'd love for us to sign him. He's one of the best pass rushers in the NFL. I'm sure he knows this will be his last chance and I believe he'll be a different guy from here on out. It would literally be a zero risk, monster reward signing. He wont cost much. But with having said that signing him wouldn't be the answer. You cant assume he would fix our pass rush himself. So if we sign him we'd also need to draft a OLB in the first or sign another one in free agency. We all want Von Miller, but Aldon Smith is honestly just as good and he'll be sitting there for the taking. If he has grown up and learned a few things he'll be the steel of this free agency.

Ya, but we have Irsay not wanting to continue to look the foo, so he darn well will be wanting to fix that, like he tried with Cherilus, by taking a tackle.

Lol, yeah. He is getting older, sometimes that means wiser. I figure he might do well in our system, but yeah he has been problematic. Maybe we get him on the cheap though.

Why should we wait and see who falls to us? Trade up and get a top LB if necessary.  Waiting and taking bpa hasnt quite worked wonders for us.

You didn`t tell us who to trade up for or what the price would be.
Moving up to 10 would cost us our 2nd rd pick based on the value chart.
And Myles Jack isn`t exactly an edge rusher, and a good chance he goes before 10th.

That 2nd could easily be a very good center.
